Posted this in fitness forum but no answers to it.

Right I've lost 45 pounds since Jan 1st! Following low carb plan! No bread, pasta, wraps etc etc! I have 11 pounds to go till first major target! I have no issue continuing eating like I have but football season starts and sone carbs are gonna be helpful! Wanna try carb cycling cos it fits nicely into hard training Tuesday and match day Saturday! They can be my higher carb days!! Just a question about it! Would it be enough on high carbs days to add say bran flakes to breakfast wholemeal pitta bread for lunch and pasta for dinner! Basically drop them on 5 other days! I wanna keep it simple like that but any other ideas!?

Sounds reasonable. Try it and see. Unless you've been sitting on your arse all the time until now, chances are that your body has got pretty good at extracting energy from fat, so it's not relying on carbs for energy. You just need enough carbs to bridge the gap between what you can get from fat (typically 70% of max intensity) and what you expect to need for your football.

Many athletes follow TKD (targeted ketogenic diet) where they eat a small carb meal before workouts, a big PWO shake afterwards, and basic low carb the rest of the time. Your need for carbs will depend on the intensity of your workout.
