    Race website
Last years thread including poll results

    Hi All,

Clontarf Half Marathon (formally Irish Multimarathon) and NEW 5mile is on the 3rd of July.

The event has been given an overhaul from name change to a new look website and the addition of the 5 mile race.

The registration will be much faster and we will also register people the night before to avoid conjestion.

The 5mile will start after the Half marathon in a different location on the course but they will both finish opposite the Garda station in Clontarf (the same place as last year). Half marathon will start at 10am (one hour earlier than previous years) and the 5 mile at 11.30am

The 5 mile might be a good form indicator/ warm up for the 5 mile in the park the following week and is limited to 450 entries. There is no limit on the Half marathon entries (maybe a 100,000 limit.... )

    Half marathon is €30
    5 mile is €20

I did this last yr and it was a good race.

There was a sand storm on the beach on the way back in and a lot of people slowed to almost walking or started going backwards............i did the 1st have in 54 min but my second half was a disaster with the wind and sand:(

I'll be doing it again this time to better my time.

My only problem with last yrs race was the lack of marshalls at the end line. Like anyway i wanted to almost sprint to the end line and there were kids running all over the place. I had to jump to avoid one of them and almost took them out as i came past. So a better marshalled end line would be great !

    Roll on July 3 !!!

Doing this myself, work in the area and its a serious flat route, good race for pb if its flat calm. No doubt it will be well organised like all Eoin's races.

I'm gonna do this one again too. Like Elvis, my out time was good but I was running backwards on the beach and swallowing sand so I was disappointed with my finish time. Going back to get a PB this Year!

Last years was certified by AI. I believe the race director walked it will the lovely wheel to measure it.

My old polar with a foot pod was way off but those with garmins said it was spot on !

a race isnt measured with a lovly wheel, nor with garmins, and if it was measured with a lovly wheel,it wouldnt have a permit..

Wonderful - the main race promoter for Kildare on boards.ie is posting on another half marathon site and throwing in a wobbler....
I'll take it as a compliment
The course was bang on last year.

I must say i measured the course spot on last year.m I always wondered how you would measure with a jones counter on sand alright:D

Just an FYI. I think the date on the website needs to be updated.

Under the section Course...Half marathon is the below.

Race Day Timings – Sunday 4th July

First of all im not a race promoter for kildare,as i said in a previous thread id answer any questions that i could regarding to that race as i know the RD, i d made that very clear in the post and i like you to retract that comment...regarding your race,im not throwing a wobbler as you put it,i was simply wondering how you accuratly measure a race with a jones counter on sand and maybe you could let us know if it was measured with a jones counter and if it has a measurement cert off a qualifid course measurer provided by AAI.....

Yeah, im thinking of entering it too for some early training for the marathon. I think the dublin half is too close to the time even though id say i'll run it too providing i keep the training and motivation going:D
Id also like to try running a flat half marathon and see if i can get a pb.

Anyone doing this - I found it great prep for my DCM training last year
A tough, tough course if the wind is up ;-)) but a really enjoyable course to run.

I'm running the Longford marathon at the end of August so this half marathon fits in very well in my training plan. I see its being run by the same person who organises the Wexford half marathon, which is a very well run event. So I'll be hoping for similar organisation for this one.

If someone wants to point me towards the route I'll run it next weekend and post it up... It's along my typical running route and I've to do ~10 miles next weekend anyway so I might as well do the 13.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the course map here. Will lash it up next Friday evening, unless anyone else beats me to it!

I ran this both years and i also ran the beach section a couple of times last week. It was lovely and flat. There is a powdery section getting onto the flat wetter stuff but its about 100m so no bother to you.

I did a big pb on this 2 years ago when the weather was perfect. No breeze and lovely and hot, maybe 2 hot. Last years race was the polar oppisite. Worst headwind ive ever ran into but it was a great challange. If the weather is favourable this is a bigtime pb course, if not headdown and grit the teeth:D

I am dithering about entering the 5 mile, and I see that there is a limit of 450 entrants.

Does anyone know if this limit is likely to be reached soon or can I dither for another while ?

    Thanks,

Just registered for this today, have a soft PB so fingers crossed I'll take a bit of time of that.
Forecast not great at the moment but winds don't seem too bad (NW / W).

Was thinking that but a moderate NW / N wind shouldn't have too much of an effect ?
At least it would be at the back coming home anyhow.

I see the Markers are in KM's
    * Q . Will the course be marked in miles or kilometres?
    * Ans. The course is officially measured in km’s, so the marking on the day will also be in km’s.

but does anyone know how often they will be?
