    Short and sweet

I've a bit of a belly and i'm trying to lose it.

What i want to know is if i do sit ups will i just be putting muscle on the fat and not lose the belly..

Should i not do situps and just loads of running/walking/ cross trainer for 2 months then start sit ups ?

    cheers.

Your almost right! Most of the muscular systems we have lie underneath the main layer of fat that runs around our body's. While a few sit ups a few times a week will develop a great six pack you wont see it because it's hidden.

Core work IS important because it is the the area that links your body together and connects all the important bits (in fact you have several core muscle groups, upper abs, lower abs, transverse abs, obliques and the lower back.

However, what is really required is a whole body approach. You cannot lose the fat off the stomach only (your body isn't that stupid or clever whichever way you choose to look at it.)

Cardio is important but so is full body weight training and impecable nutrition.
