Query on Getting the grind right

    Hey Folks,

New here to coffee making, love the thread!
Just wondering about different beans 'maybe' requiring a setting difference on the Mill Grinder than some other beans? (Im making Cups of coffee and Lattés no espressos)

Basically I have just finished a bag of Percol? It was in a supermarket I just grabbed it as I was stuck for Beans having only just got a Russell Hobbs Grind & Brew.
So I found that bag to have quite a full flavour a little nutty and smooth with little to no acidity it was on 3rd finest setting on the machine almost half way but on the finer side of half way.
I opened a bag of HasBean Brazil Sao Judas 2011 which is also very nice but seems to have a bit of acidity through it.

Is it safe to say that if I want to lessen the acidity level by grinding a setting towards Coarse but I will loose some of the flavours depth or fullness?
SHould or Do different Beans need a setting change on the grind?

    Thanks in advance,
    Nick.

Firstly, a latte is an espresso based drink.

An espresso grind is a lot finer than a filter brew type grind so adjustment is certainly necessary between different methods of extraction.

Beans from supermarket will be 'stale' in 99.9% of cases compared to fresh beans from the likes of hasbean. As the beans age and oils dry out I find you need to adjust for a finer grind.

Get yourself a shot glass and adjust your grind until you get a shot in approx 20 seconds. Too watery and poor crema and the grind is too coarse.

As Mr M said you're looking for espresso grind regardless of whether you're drinking an americano or latte. (Check the sticky at the top of the forum
    for this diagram).

If you want a 'cup of coffee' make an espresso and then top up with hot
water from the kettle, do not fill up the cup by letting a cup full of water
run through the machine as you'll over extract the coffee and have a bitter
    cup.
