The statement referred to myself and Dades did it not?

Well the poll would be pretty useless if it was open to all. I always had the impression that a lot of declared atheists work in IT...

Science, surprisingly enough. Doing a B.Sc in Genetics and Cell biology.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

That's because, after your 678th BSOD, not even the pope would believe anymore.

    "IT"? <spits>.

    Software engineer, my child!

Degree in mech eng from UL at some point during the second-last ice age, now writing test, analysis and certification software for chip and pin cards, ATM's and POS devices, payment networks and the neurotic security hardware behind the lot of 'em. And writing device drivers for our card/terminal sniffer. Fun stuff!

    .

IT people put cd's into computers, install Office and fix problems with ethernet cables. On a good day, with the wind and sun behind them, they might stretch to a few lines of VB, before running screaming for their lives.

Software engineers do C++, the queen of engineering languages :)

Haven't voted in the poll to respect liamw's wishes but I find it really interesting that a lot of you are working in software engineering / development. I'm looking into going down this route at the minute as well :)

Don't! The evidence of this poll is that working in IT is the short cut to atheism!

If God had intended us to use computers, He would not have created the abacus!:)

I don't think the correlation between atheism and "nerds" would necessarily be as strong if this poll were not taking place on boards :o

I do think there would be a correlation between higher levels of education and atheism though

Can't vote as per original OP, but surely a box tick for all of the above.
As a QA type, I can confirm that IT != Science. :)

Perhaps we should consider whether the evidence suggests a correlationb between higher levels of education and nerdiness?

the word entertainment in inverted commas usually implies porn.

must make the shoots a bit odd, you shouting out 'OH FSM OH FSM', instead of 'OH GOD OH GOD'.

    Hehe.

I don't entertain anyone, I just facilitate others ie. I build stages during the summer and am a stagehand during the winter

Isn't there a higher proportion of IT people on Boards in general than in the population as a whole? So this poll is going to be a bit skewed that way.

    FYI - I work in accounting/finance.
