Anyone Know what was going on beside the Athlone Dual Carraigeway?

    Was driving home from work this evening, about 6.20pm, and there was a lot of emergency services activity just beside and on the road after the bridge over the Shannon on the dual carriageway. Anyone know what was going on?

    drove by it myself and seen a car in bits at the bottom of the embankment just before the bridge heading west
    looked bad

    Either it's some kinda road traffic collision or it's the annual Emergency Services Convention

    Someone travelling westbound went into the barrier onto the eastbound. Bit o the aul drink involved 'ALLEGEDLY'

    Sorry! Was thinking about a different incident when the temp barrier first went up! Have have been told it was a driver who attempted to undertake and then went down over the verge and fell a good few feet! He may have had a couple of beverages to augment his driving!

    yeah the embankment is quite steep, his car was fairly badly damaged
