Any DL Crunch members ("Crunchies") getting fed up with all the broken stuff???

I've been a member of Crunch since Summer '07. I absolutely LOVED the place at first. Loved it.

I still love it, I still go there every second day without fail, but it's getting to the point where workouts are being utterly ruined by the almost total lack of maintenance. There are either always things missing (free weights) or downright broken (machines). The fitlinxx system which they go to such lengths to advertise to you when you join is hopeless as well since any of the machines which stupidly don't let you manually record results, tend to have banjaxed lazers which record the wrong weight and the wrong number of reps, utterly defeating the point of having the system at all - yet if you decide to just count in your head and give the two fingers to the machine, you still have to listen to it constantly beeping to tell you you're not lifting the right weight, when in fact you are and it's just about 20kg off in its estimation of what you're actually doing.

Nevermind fitlinxx though, what's worse is when things are literally uncomfortably broken, like benches and elbow rests with ripped pads, Or handles which don't match up, etc.

One of the toilets in the lads' jacks has a literally unhinged seat. It's been off its hinges since last summer. There are also many unhinged lockers, and a vending machine which, as far as I know, has never actually worked properly.

And things break down of course, I think everyone will agree with that. Nobody expect these things to be in pristine order forever. But it's the length of time which p*sses me off. Both of the horizontal leg press machines are borked - and they have been so since last April. IT's got to the point where if something breaks, I find myself thinking "Well that was fun while it lasted, will probably never get to use that again, ever"

What's up with this? Are the other Crunches around Dublin letting themselves fall apart like this? Surely it's actually mandated on gym equipment's manuals that it's supposed to be serviced once in a while?

Sorry for the rant BTW, but I'm starting to have the most appalling workouts as the list of banjaxed equipment mounts and none of the older banjaxed stuff shows any sign of being repaired in the near future...

EDIT: Not in any way blaming the fitness staff btw, they're aware of the problems and supposedly always pass them on to management, whose responsibility it surely is to organize maintenance. Actual fitness staff in Crunch are incredibly friendly and helpful in every way and I wouldn't say a word against any of them.

Did you complain?tbh I'd ask for my money back if stuff was broken and staff refused to get it fixed.

I dont think Tallaght is AS bad, they still have issues like only one hydro jet working and weight stickers falling off to be replaced by tipp ex but for the most part the gear in tallaght is still in decent shape.

Never used the fitlinxx system..that beep...beep just does my head in

I have yeah, like I said in the OP I don't blame the floor staff at all they're all incredibly nice and seem just as frustrated as I am. IDK if others feel the same way, a lot of my mates who used to go there never used Fitlinxx for instance and kept everything in their heads, I got used to using fitlinxx as the staff were so excited about it during my initiation, so it's a bit baffling and irritating to discover a year or two in that the system has developed major issues which are very easy to fix and yet there are apparently no plans to do so...

It doesn't appear to be all the Crunch fitness's, The one in Tallaght is quite well maintained. I know what you mean though, A friend and I joined about 2 months ago and every time we go for the last 6 weeks, we've told someone to fix the decline bench. We've told trainers, receptionists, lodged complaints.

As above, if it's not sorted out by the end of the month, we're asking for money back

Now imagine if it's beeping before you've reached the end of your list or beeping to tell you you haven't met your targets when in fact you've exceeded them by 5kgs (bicep curl target 80kgs, I lifted 85kgs, machine registered I lifted 65kgs and condemned me for my laziness)

You would if you had a forgetful mind like myself and would totally believe the machine when next time you log in, it says "Last target: 65kg" :P
I just take them down on my phone now instead, just saying it's pointless when they get you so used to and excited about a product and then it almost never works :P

You should check out Crunch UCD if you think you have it rough.
I think they even stopped sweeping and hoovering there around last Autumn.
    Even the mirrors are filthy.
    The benches are torn.
15% of the machines would be out of order at any given time.
The plates are strewn about the gym.
They really don't give a fiddlers as it is closing down in June.

All very true. Once they were within sight of the closing date (this June) they just stopped giving a ****. If something gets broken, they won't bother fixing it. Most of the oly bars are damaged (either severely bent or stuck collars), the furnishing on most equipment is torn, machines with cables left snapped... it's left to die.

Was a member of clonsilla a few years ago, here are my complaints:

    1. They had carpet in the changing rooms. This is totally inappropriate in a gym changing room in my view. Not least because it starts to literally rot as result of wet feet walking on it consistently. How no-one thought of this at the design phase of this gym is beyond me. There was always this rancid rotten smell in the changing room as a result.
    2. The jacuzzi seemed to be terminally broken.
    3. Leather padding on the machine weights was left ripped for long periods.
    4. Shower area could have been better maintained.
