Since Slovakia and Russia are Irelands main contenders for qualification I thought we might as well have a thread to keep people up to date with how hey are doing. Injuries, suspensions, results, team news ect.

    Slovakia run in:

    26/03/2011 Andorra V Slovakia

    03/06/2011 Slovakia V Andorra

    01/09/2011 Ireland V Slovakia

    05/09/2011 Slovakia V Armenia

    06/10/2011 Slovakia V Russia

    10/10/2011 Macedonia V Slovakia

    Russia run in:

    26/03/2011 Armenia V Russia

    03/06/2011 Russia V Armenia

    01/09/2011 Russia V Macedonia

    05/09/2011 Russia V Ireland

    06/10/2011 Slovakia V Russia

    10/10/2011 Russia V Andorra

I'd expect Armenia to fall away as the games progress.

    Current table:
    Team MP W D L F A D P
    1 Russia 4 3 0 1 6 3 +3 9
    2 Armenia 4 2 1 1 9 4 +5 7
    3 Ireland 4 2 1 1 7 5 +2 7
    4 Slovakia 4 2 1 1 4 4 +0 7
    5 Macedonia4 1 1 2 4 4 +0 4
    6 Andorra 4 0 0 4 1 11 -10 0

I think this could be considered good news. Róbert Vittek Slovakias top goal scorer in the WC is now a free agent. So hes getting less football than Robbie Keane!!!!!

    On Russia

    Russia make two squad changes
Russia manager Dick Advocaat has made two changes to his squad against Armenia and for a friendly against Qatar.
Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Alexei Ionov has replaced injured club-mate Vladimir Bystrov, while Chelsea's Yuri Zhirkov comes in to take the place of Pavel Mamayev for the away clash against Armenia on March 26.

Looking at both their next 2 fixtures, they're both almost certain to pick up 6 points from the 2 games. If we don't take 4 points from our 2 games against Macedonia, we could be going into the last run of games relying on other things to go our way.

Oh and on the table, we're actually in 2nd place buddy, despite them having superior goal difference, we beat Armenia.

If we don't take 6 points from our two games against Macedonia it will be bye bye Euro 2012.

Just a note table is wrong it goes on score between teams before GD so Ireland are 2nd having beat Armenia

What happened to Vittek? Is he likely to sign to a club before the summer?

Sorry about the table. Copy and paste job.

His contract with MKE Ankaragücü was terminated. Dunno why. It was a decision that he and the club came to. I heard he was accused of cheating on his wife not too long ago. Maby he has some personal issues. Hes back in the Slovak squad now anyway.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-slovakiasquad

On wikipedia hes listed as a free agent.

Armenia 0-0 Russia at Half Time,

A draw would be a good result for our cause if it stayed that way, and a nice way to enter our match tonight - even though it may signify Armenia being in the hunt longer than many imagined!

As an aside, I am looking at the map of the world on my wall and Armenia is listed as an Asian country (as are Azerbaijan, Georgia, Israel and Turkey)

If Armenia win and we win, we go top right?

    1-0 Armenia

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss!

Hopefully it stays like that, or at worse finishes a draw.

Wasn't in, looked it, and should have been! :D

This match has been all Armenia, in the second half at least. Home crowd providing a great atmosphere.

Every time I turn on the Russia game they are in and around the box having a shot. Who is the better team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,468 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Armenia are playing well, wouldn't be suprised to see them grab a 1-0 win here. Thought it was in a few minutes ago! The stupid camera is at an awful angle and far away from the pitch.

They are playing some really good football, Russia started the second half better, but it has been all Armenia since then, culminating with that chance that hit the back of the net from the wrong side!

Our victory out there was a very good result considering what has gone on since then.

LJ's slip up from time to time. I only knew +7 were showing it when it scrolled across the bottom on +3

Yeah it does look like they are playing like they will be happy with a point,

Armenia look best on the counter attack, which is probably why Russia are not committing many forward,

Two involved in the last attack!
