Who's your pick for PFA player of the year?

I think the results of this will be announced within the next few weeks.

It's a strange year for it, as there is no outstanding candidate.

I think either Nani, Tevez or Vidic should get it as they have been in excellent form but I have a feeling Gareth Bale will take the award due to the media hype surrounding him this season.

Here's a list of the candidates.

    Nani

    26 games, 9 goals and 16 assists.

    Gareth Bale

    25 games, 7 goals and 1 assist.

    Carlos Tevez

    26 games, 18 goals and 6 assists.

    Samir Nasri

    23 games, 9 goals and 1 assist.

    Dimitar Berbatov

    27 games, 20 goals and 3 assists.

    Rafael Van der Vaart

    20 games, 10 goals and 6 assists.

    Cesc Fabregas

20 games, 3 goals and 9 assists. Has been the best CM in the prem this season, no doubt.

    Nemanja Vidic

28 games, 4 goals and 1 assist. Has been a rock at the back for Man Utd and the most consistent CB in the league this season.

Honorable mentions for Vincent Kompany, Jack Wilshere, Scott Parker, Charlie Adam, Paul Scholes, David Silva, Javier Hernandez and Raul Meireles, but realistically, none of those are going to win it this season.

Id go between Vidic, Nani or Nasri but as you said Bale will probly get it due to the media :(

    Fabregas

    Nani

    26 games, 9 goals and 13 assists.

Just wondering where you got this stat from? According to premierleague.com he has 16 assists?

Personally I think he's been the player of the year but his tendency to be inconsistent from one minute to the next coupled with his general lack of likeability mean its unlikely his fellow pros will vote for him in large numbers. I reckon vidic, bale, or VDV will take it.

Argh voted Nasri and only copped Vidic afterward! Vidic for me!

    Tevez
Nani for me. Best player in the best team in the league.

I suppose different sources will count assists differently or maybe it's not updated.

For example on Saturday when the keeper spilled that shot from Nani and Berbatov knocked it in, it was counted as an assist on PL.com alright but maybe not others.

Nani or Vida. Probably go with Nani overall

    Charlie Adam

    27 games, 9 goals and 7 assists.

I'm not saying he should win it, but it's a joke that he's not on the shortlist.

    Fabregas
    Vidic.

it's not even that close IMO.

honourable mentions to Kompany, Adam, Nani and Nasri.

    Tevez
Nani or Vidic for me but i might be a bit bias towards the United players :p

Think Nani should get it as he has been consistant all year and been very creative from the wing but his theatrics might cost him a lot of votes.

How many of those goals were penalties? I'm guessing 4 or 5?

He's been excellent this season, but I don't think he has out performed anyone on that shortlist of 8.

    Fabregas
Vidic has been consistently excellent and would be a deserving winner.

I have no idea why Fabregas is on the OP's list tbh. Has not hit the heights he's capable of this season.

By the way, anyone shocked Nani has so many assists?

    Fabregas
Nani has 9 goals and 16 assists alrite.

Between him and Vidic imo, but I think Vidic deserves it. The man is immense.

Bale won't win it but he'll prob get young player of the year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

    Fabregas
You'll get 7/1 with PP on Vidic winning it, very good odds.

Probably between Bale and Wilshire for the Young Player award. I suspect Bale will edge it.

I reckon Tevez will win the main award, just ahead of Nani and Vidic.

Yeah really don't think Fabregas has been at his best this season, consistantly anyway. If Wilshire doesn't win Young Player though, I may cry.

One of the hardest years in a long time to pick a consistantly top performing player this season. Would love to see the FA be a bit different and give it to someone of the ilk of Scott Parker or Charlie Adam.

Heh, I felt the need to have a CM in there and he's been the best IMO. I've been pretty impressed with him most times I've watched Arsenal in th PL this season. He hasn't had the greatest time of it in the last few weeks with his injury and performances against Barca, but we shouldn't let that cloud our judgement.

    Bale
I went for Tevez but Bale will probably win it. Im still a little peeved that Rooney won it last year despite Drogba being superior in every department but you cant really take these things seriously.

Definitely Nani for me. The amount of chances he creates for both himself and his teammates a game is amazing tbh.

    Fabregas
Vidic by far, he holds this United team together look how shakey they are without him.By far their most important player.

No mention for Luka Modric by the way? Better than Van Der Vaart for me.

Was thinking he should be in that list or at least deserves a mention, 12 clean sheets in 28 games is pretty good going, and just having a good season in general.

On that list,Nani, Nasri, Bale, Van der Vaart would be my front runners.

    Surprised no mention of RVP.

Can't believe Parker isn't even on the list along with Adam. At least give us the option of other.

And have just copped Fabregas on the list. If you're going to do a poll at least do it properly.

Jesus, Vidic 7 to 1 and Nani 8 to 1 on PP!!

Because he has been nothing short of absolutely world class this season (when fit)

I didn't put them in because realistically they don't stand a chance of winning it.

Fabregas was probably a mistake to put in there but has been a better player than Parker and Adam IMO. Just because those two have maximized their potential more than Fabregas has, dosen't mean they have been better players.

Do you really think they have a chance of winning it?

I can guarantee you the winner will come from the listed options, who all have some sort of chance IMO. (with the exception of Fabregas)

Don't think he has set the premiership alight tbh.

I think without his hat trick against Inter Milan at the San Siro and performance against them in the return game( which shouldn't count), he would be much longer odds.

Are you kidding? Scotty Parker is a very realistic condender for poy. Adam would also be in contention but Parker is one of the favourites imo.

Personally I think Scott Parker has had a better season than Bale. I think a lot would agree. I would rate his season on a par with Nasri's also.

My list would be Tevez, Nani, Vidic, Van Der Saar, Parker and Nasri. Maybe Adam...I'm not so sure

Bale was seriously over hyped. 7 goals and 3 assists. He didnt score or assist in 11 games running. He only played 157 mins of prem league football in January and missed all of February.

PFA Award, though. Nothing to do with the FA - voted for by the players.

As usual, there'll be some debate over the fact that they vote in February, which is relatively early in the season. From that point of view, I think Nasri's claims will be enhanced, though he's arguably faded since Fabregas got back playing more often.

I'll be annoyed if Bale gets it - European performances don't count I believe and for me, he hasn't really justified the hype in the PL. If Walcott had been fit for more of the season, I think he'd be in with a decent shout - has had a phenomenal year when on the pitch.

Otherwise, lots of good candidates but not sure if there's a clear winner, especially given the timing of the vote. If Vidic or Nani drags United to the title now, an April/May vote would probably see them way out in front.

He could get more votes than all of them. You don't have one English player there. He is English and will get votes just because of that.

I agree he's been as influential as Bale, but it's highly probable that Bale will receive alot more votes than him, simply because of the media spotlight.

I would have included him if I thought he could actually possibly win the award.

    True

I have heard the good oul chaps at sky sports regurgitate the lines
"one man team" "honest player" "top notch old fashioned midfielders" " his best season"

but he's not getting the sexed up flashling lights whomp there it is attention Bale is.

Remember its voted by the players, they can't all be that tick!

Both him and Adam are both standout players in relegation threatened teams. It dosen't make them the best players in the division.

When was the last time a relegation threatened player won the award?

    According to this, never.

I take your point about him being English, but Bale will take alot of those votes as he's British. Alot of the players in the premiership are foreign anyway, and I'd imagine most of them won't go for Parker.
