i know i will get slated for this and by virtue of the CBA/lockout and its knock-on effect on free agency and choices made in the draft this will be a moveable feast .. there are open days and workouts remaining and that will effect the board ..Bowers being the big one ....love to trade blows on the the selections and see other drafts , but here is Round 1-2 . Cam Newton is No 1 ...to explain i dont think he is a No 1 pick but with the slippage of Bowers and the minor slippage of Fairley , with Peterson being not a position of most need and with Carolina maybe thinking that Dareus is not a No 1 pick ....i think this allied to Newtons strong workout , Carolina decide with split loyalties on the pick they go for largest need at Quarterback and they see Gabbert as safe but Newton with more upside and pick Newton at No 1

I myself would pick Dareus as a little like Mario Williams vs RBush he is a sensible high pick and Fairley is a late top ten pick due to concerns

On the Miami pick, I think its more likley we pick up a Linemen than a RB. I dont think Ingram is bad pick and also I know about 90% of mocks have him going to Miami, but I think our Front Office will love Carimi. He's a brusing run blocker, 4 year starter, team captain and played in the Big 10 (our last 3 1st round picks have been players from the Big 10).

Also the interior of our oline could not make any holes for R&R to run, so I think we need interior olinemen beofre we need a running back.

Would like to hear your reasons for having Locker go at 10.

If Carolina pick Cam Newton, then I've got some magic beans here they can buy.

The draft isn't exactly overrun with NFL ready QBs, and Luck staying in school an extra year had to hurt, but picking Newton first is an act of desperation IMO.

I think with the lack of a CBA and probably shortened season it means there is little chance Newton or any QB goes first. Teams who draft a QB won't get to work with them much this year I think they'll realise they are better of waiting until next year draft when everything is sorted out. TBh with a rookie pay-scale I'd nearly want my team to tank the season to get the number #1 spot for him next year.

They wouldn't even have to tank too badly if they wanted a franchise QB next year, the class is so talented. Matt Barkley looks sensational and could well be the number 1 pick if Luck doesn't put up a stellar year, and Landry Jones had a fantastic year. Those three are infinitely better than Newton, Gabbert, Mallett, Locker etc.

Just looking at some of next years class actually, it's insanely talented on the offensive flair positions. Luck, Barkley, Jones at QB, Trent Richardson and LaMichael James at RB, Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd at WR. A lot of teams are going to pick up some great playmakers.

I'd rather trade that first pick for Kevin Kolb or Kyle Orton than use it on a QB in the draft.

Was just watching a piece from NFL Network on the Pats draft options. They have a very young roster and with so many draft picks they could package a couple of picks to move up in the draft, or as you say they will also be open to gaining picks in next years draft.

I've not been following the speculation on the draft lately as i'm weary of the CBA debacle and have switched off following (what remains of)the offseason as a result.

So anyways, thought I may as well ask, why have Newton and Fairley risen and fallen respectively?

I can definitely see the sense in your view as a good Tackle will shift the defense around for a half decent back and im thinking of how Hutchinson use to make Shaun Alexander look good in Seattle for example but Miami are probably losing both backs in one go and its a big need and they will have a clear run at Ingram

Alternatively they could draft Carini Tron Smith or my own fave Solder at 16 and wait until round 2

I think only the Pats could take Ingram late in 1st round or the 33rd pick . Miami could choose to gamble and wait particuarly if they have Leshoure as pretty close to Ingram on their board

Funny on my mock 2.0 i have flirted with Newton still on the board at Miami's pick and them pullling the trigger on him ...could be making of Sparano ..i dont think he has autonomy to make the pick tho

with things so tight every rumour or small fact moves things around a lot

Newton had a solid pro day at Auburn not unreal but solid and Fairley had a good pro-day after a Combine where Dareus looked like an unspectacular but more solid pick ....because Bowers has been injured he has slipped a little as well

A couple of sources have said that if Locker slips past Washington , Minnesota and Miami and that his Seattle pick doesnt materialise that the Pats could step in and pick him and look at a package from teams in the 2nd round or use the 33rd pick for the same purpose if Gabbert and Newton are gone with Locker looking good value at a 2nd pick

The word is that Reid has to keep Kolb as insurance and only a 1st and 1nd round pick could get him and only Dan Snyder in Washington would give that and Philly wont trade him in their division ...as for Orton the word in Denver is that John Fox is sceptical on Tebow ...i know journos love Tebows will to won and he showed flashes but he has to convince Fox not Sports Illustrated

Remember that when i have Newton as the pick its not what i would do ...it would be Dareus as the no nonsense pick that will man the defensive line for a long time ....Fairley has a rep for taking downs off and plays dirty bit still a top ten pick perfect for Tennessee...Bowers only produced for one year and has knee injuries but Ron Rivera has raved publicly and privately about Newton and was at the pro day and had observers at everything else

He may love to make the pick but fear about it also but the Bills have Fitzy ...Cincy may make peace with Palmer and Shanahan likes big men like Locker ...Carolina have to pick a Quarterback unless they think its a total bust ...i dont think of Newton as jamarcus anyway ....tell me why they can do anything else ??????

From what I have read from various media sources, the Fins seem to really like Newton (and they have also scheduled a visit with him). If he was there at 15, I dont think the Fins would hesitate in taking him.

This is a strange draft .....the Panthers , Bills , Tennessee and the Redskins must do something about their QB...Kolb , Orton and the like for a variety of reasons like CBA , small windows of opportunity ...rookie wage scale will be tough options

Arizona look like they will look to a veteran and i think that is a budget issue as the talk is they will only pay $4m p.a. Miami may have to trade into the late top ten or higher for Newton ..i think Gabbert has pro-dayed his way into the Panthers pick and i think Chan Gailey will be mighty tempted by Newton and i cant see Tennessee passing Newton. People and other posters scoff at the notion of Gabbert and Newton going high but the NFL isnt known as NotForLong for no reason . Apart from Ron Rivera and Mike Munchak at Carolina and Tennessee respectively Chan Gailey , Ken Whisenhunt , Mike Shanahan and Tony Sparano must show forward progress so both QBs will be gone by pick 15 not because its right but because thats how it works

Well that's pretty much it. Both Gabbert and Newton are going top 10 as there are just too many teams with new regimes to pass up on them. Although, I do think there is one more QB that could work himself into the first round and that's Christian Ponder.

Someone could take Locker high, I personally dont think he has shown anything in may mind to warrant 1st consideration (but thats not to say it wont happen). But Ponder has been awesome since the end of the season. He was MVP at the Senior Bowl, was impressive at Senior Bowl practices, had a great combine and was again very good at his pro-day. With his shoulder also seeming to have checked out, I think you could see him go in the 1st round. He has certainly done everything he could to improve his draft stock. Maybe not top 10, but Miami maybe? Jaguars? If someone like the Niners or Titans trade down, they might take him also.

There seems to be a story gaining traction in regards to Carolina this weekend...that it is Newton or Dareus/Fairley as their pick and that Newton is moving ahead to go No 1 . Also that Gabbert may not even be the No 2 QB on Carolinas board so that would point to Buffalo getting Gabbert . Funny i find that the picks will grade all Round 2 after that with Ponder going to Cincy ...Kaepernik to Arizona ..Locker not going past Washington and Minnesota picking Mallett even maybe in the 3rd round. I can see Tennessee going with a vet. Seattle may wait on the Hassleback issue with Carson Palmer maybe arriving in Seattle also

A lot depends on whether or not FA goes ahead before the draft. If it does and the likes of Kolb/McNabb/Palmer end up in new homes then the draft needs become a lot clearer. I can see the Vikings going with one of the above, and possibly the 49ers too. But if FA does not happen before the draft then those QB-needy teams may have to pick up a QB in the draft for fear of missing out in FA.

I'm not conviced that the Panthers go QB at #1. Unless they are 100% convinced that Newton/Gabbert are going to be a star, then they are better off taking Dareus and seeing if Clausen/Moore/Pike can step-up at QB. Rivera will be given time, so maybe he is better off putting some building blocks in place this year, then going QB next year if required, similar to how Steve Spagnuolo took Bradford in his 2nd year with the Rams.

Ok I think the title is pretty self explanatory. The idea is to get as many people as possible interested. Nobody gets to pick what team they are selecting for. If we get 16 people interested then each person will get to pick for two teams. If we only get 10 then you get 3 teams each and some will 4 teams.

Its just an idea to have our own mock draft at the end of it. It would be interesting to see how accurate it would work out when you nececcarily picking for your own team.

I think the best way to do this is to use the pm system to let the next person know they are up. You can have up to 24 hrs to make a selection although I'd hope it would move a lot faster than that so that we could do all 7 rounds.

Anyways this is just for an interest list. If you want in let us know here.

I'd be up for this but I wouldn't have the knowledge to get past the 2nd round (at most). I can't see too many here being interested in a 7 round draft, but if you limit it to just the first, or maybe 1st and 2nd then there should be some interest. That's 64 picks and I'm not even sure that you would get that many done before draft day.

List so far. This is just a list in order of entry. When we have enough I will put it through random.org and the order it comes out is the draft order. We will then add the teams.

I'd be up for this too, sounds like fun. Pretty sure I'd be lost if it went for more than 2 rounds as well, but since it encourages me to learn more I'll go more rounds if that's what's decided.

I've followed the NFL for 3/4 years now but I've never properly understood how the NFL draft works and taking part in this would hopefully fix that. So if you are all prepared to bear with me, I'd love to do this.

Ok we'll leave it at that. We could get a couple more but it would make it more awkward to do it up. We have 16 which is two teams each.

I'll start two threads tomorrow for this. One for picks with no discussion. And one for discussion of the picks.

With each pick, please include a picture of your selection.

Things to get to know for those that are new to this. You should know what the teams biggest needs are and then weight that against the prospects available to decide who you think is the best pick.

You can get good information on a lot of sites about all this year's prospects. Just google nfl draft 2011 and you will find loads of stuff.

    Here is the random.org result

Out of interest how does this work with teams who traded their picks?

ddc1990 and sea devils have the Pats? So does that mean ddc is Oakland and Sea devils is the Pats and ddc doesnt pick 17 and sea devils does?

Yeah i'm a bit curious about this too. I drew 2 & 18 which in the first round is Denver & San Diego which is ok. Do i pick for those teams in the second round as well (both teams pick twice in the 2nd round) or do i stick with 2 & 18 which incidently are Buffalo & San Diego?

I presume you take your teams from the 1st round positions and stick with those teams in round 2.

I'd say you stick in your position, so in my case I pick 13th and 29th in the 1st round, and 13th and 29th in the 2nd round. In my case this would be Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco and San Diego.

Hmm I see the Dilemma. If I Have Carolina and Patriots I have 5 overall Picks,
    Carolina 1 (1st round) NE- 4 (2 1st 2 2nd)
However if I have Carolina and Oakland... I only have 2 Total.
    Carolina 1 Oakland 1.

Might just be best to pick as Mr Guappa Suggests. In which case my draft would be:

    #1 Carolina:
    #17 NE
    #33 NE
    #49 Jacksonville

Is that ok or is there another way?
I know I have first pick of the draft so i'll get my sights set on that. Nice position to be in regardless :)
