    Hi lads,

    I'm in a bit of a pickle. About two weeks ago i was squatting about 95kg, (work lift), I'll admit i was tired and because of that I certainly wasn't using correct form... Anyway, long story short my lower back is now in bits. I rested it a solid two weeks. literally no lifting not even benching.

    Back to it this morning, and squatted with the empty bar, then added some weight... All seemed fine although i'll admit the back pain was slightly still there. Got back to work weight on the third set and it definitely hurt more than it should.

    Not looking for medical advice, i'm heading to physio at the weekend.

    The advice i am looking for however is what can i do at the moment? I'll still bench, seated press (pretty sure standing OH press will hurt my back at the minute), pull ups... I'm lost without deadlifting and squatting,

    Any ideas?

    Personally I would caution rest until you see the physio. You don't want to risk aggravating it any more than it already is, and a couple of extra days off is not going to make that much difference.

    Just adjust your calorie consumption down a little if you are concerned about gaining some weight due to your inforced time out.

    I did something similar last year with dead lifting and attended a Physio in Dun Laoghaire who sorted me in one session and had me back lifting almost immediately. I found him really good. So if you are looking for a recommendation for a good physio let me know and I can PM you his details.

    They are all low load exercises so they shouldnt hurt. if they do then stop right away. I would do some gentle walking or some front crawl swimming too. neither should hurt you either and all the above will improve your back mobility and maintain some level of strength.

    I'd get down to my local chartered physiotherapist by the weekend too.
