Great idea, any chance you could time it to avoid exam season, though?

yes, when do people's exams finish?

I have 2 exams after easter. But since this is a friday night, i think it should be ok for most people.

    Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the Irish SC2 scene and I've never been to a LAN before, so I was wondering how this works. I get the idea with a LAN but what's the story for people that can't bring a computer or potential costs?

Maybe someone can link to the thread for the 1st SC2 LAN that went down.

I'm potentially very interested in this.

Can you bring a PC/Laptop: Possibly, if I buy a new one, but depends on if I can scrape some more money together for a nice MSI laptop.

hi Erik, there will be about 40ish computers already there, but they are not the greatest spec machines ever.
however, during the last lan, i think 4 people brought laptops and i brought my pc.

the rest used the computers and they said it was fine. granted a little on the slow side with gpu performance, but still very playable.

there will be 3 costs involved.

1: transport to and from the Lan event.

2: entry fee. we charge €10 per person for 12 hours of gaming. (this covers the cost of renting the gaming center for the night and also the left over goes into a prize pool for the winners of the competitions)

3: food. its a 12 hour gaming run, you will need lots of food and drinks. (last time we went to a take away in dublin about 10 minutes walk from the center and got kebabs and chips etc, but the center has a nicely stocked fridge of chocolate and drinks)
we also went for a few pints before the event so if your over 18 and want to join in on that make sure you have your id and enough money.

    Sounds awesome.
I'm in dublin so transport shouldn't be a problem.
Is it fine to bring own food and drink? I'm a poor postgraduate student so I'm looking to be cheap when possible.

I'm just reading through the old thread now. Sounds like great fun.

As for the machines, I've gotten used to playing on lowest settings.

I did just realise that I might have a sports event on Saturday the 30th if my team reaches the semi-final. I'd still show go even for half a night of LAN.

    I'm so on-board.

You can bring whatever you like in with you.

Jump on #starcraft.ie on IRC to talk with most of us, or the starcraft.ie channel in-game :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 161 ✭✭VikingErik

I've been trying to figure out IRC as I've never used that before, but I think the network I'm on might be blocking me cause it says it can't connect to server.

Also, I've not explored the in-game functionalities at all so it'll take some figuring out for me.

I've not been much of a PC gamer since the last SC and Diablo 2 :P
SC2 and Steam has lured me back in.

    Thanks for the help.

    I'm just a bronze protoss.

Thanks, I've tried to follow the instruction but it just won't connect at all. I'm in UCD so I'm thinking maybe it could be blocked somehow?
