Sky have their free sky+ box with free connection promotion running once again.

Use fatcheese to get the cashback: http://www.fatcheese.ie/cashback/sky-ireland/

    SKY+
The cost of the lowest Sky package = €23 per month x 12 = €276.
Sky+ Box plus set-up is free.
Total cost of the package for the year is €276.

€276 - €85 cashback = €191 for the year which is about €15.91 per month

SKY+HD (not as good as before)
The cost of the lowest Sky package = €23 per month x 12 = €276.
    HD Pack = €15 per month x 12 = €180.
Sky+HD Box plus set-up is free.
Total cost of the package for the year is €456.

    €456 - €150 cashback = €306 for the year which is €25.50 per month

Second box is free as well if you want multi-room.

Normally they give the first month's HD free. Not the case this time 'round?

Just had a look and not at present unless you want to go for their other offer which is first month free plus €25 credit I think. But you'll have to phone them up if you want to take that offer and you'd also have to pay for the box plus the setup so works out more expensive.

cheers for the heads up.I missed this the first time around.

Didn't go the fatcheese route but got the free HD box (not HD pack though) and free connection yesterday. There was zero upfront and so just the monthly fee.

Think this is a great deal at the moment as you get the free HD Sky + Box and Free Connection.

If you went Free To Air, equipment and a decent twin PVR would cost a fair old chunk.

Only downside is that you can't record the ITV and BBC3 and BBC4 channels.

yeah, i got the same a month or so ago, although i did have to get them to put me through to cancellations and actually told them to cancel my subscription because sales wouldn't give me the offer as an existing 'loyal' customer.

when the cancellations guy asked why i told him that i through it was unfair that anyone who wasn't an existing loyal customer could get it all for free, but that people who had been with them for years had to pay so i wanted to cancel, he caved in.

i don't imagine they'll always do it, so be prepared to back up your threats if you don't get what you want out of them. :)

i just had the variety pack with regular sky+, so no sport, movies or kids channels, and got the skyHD install & a replacement dish without HD subs for just the €30 installation fee but you might even get it without that if you push harder. :)

Well if you only want the one extra box opt for the HD box and its free. I know it should be the other way around but thats the offer at the moment.
Multiroom is really the only thing stopping me from switching.

Ps. You don't need the hd package to get the hd box.

are they not all HD boxes by default now? i thought they were and it was only a matter of then selecting the HD channel package (later if ye wanted)

remote record and some bits of sky active as well as ordering PPV events via your TV would require the phone line connected.

Just a note on this, I signed up for the previous Sky offer through Fatcheese (€100 cashback for a single non-HD sub). The estimated award date for the cashback was March, but this is still listed as "Pending". On the offer page however the payment speed is quoted as 90 days (maybe from the day of installation?) which might be more realistic (I had it installed mid-Jan). Not really concerned about this, but worth noting.

Installation went perfectly, and the Sky+ HD box is an excellent bit of kit.

Remote record does not require the phone line connected

Indeed! You beat me to it. Remote record is very clever. As well as being usable on the web-site, there are apps for iphone and android. After you select an item to record, the instruction is sent via satellite to every Sky subscribers box, but only your box will act on it as it's tagged with your details. That seems odd, but there's lots of bandwidth available, and computers are fast these days.

While we are on the subject, the "never miss" feature on the Sky web-site is very good too, especially these days when shows pop up on many different channels. To explain, you say "Let me know when Chuck season 4 is on" and you get an e-mail a week before it starts somewhere...

    Ix.

ya i might give that a last. Thats how i got my sky plus box before a few years ago. Told them i was a loyal customer and all that and ended up just paying €50 for it and no install few.

How did you get them to give you a new dish? Did you just say it to the install guy when he came or what? Are dish is looking a bit beat up and rusty too at the moment. Had to get an engineer out recently as we weren't getting all the channles properly. Would def love a sky+HD box though.

Do you get the free HD channles when you have the box or you have to pay for the hd package to watch even the free hd channels like bbc?

Also is the hard drive bigger in the HD box?

I don't have a phone, so they said I can't have multiroom viewing (or if I did, we'd have to watch the same channel in all rooms). Anyone know a way around this? Really annoying, have wireless broadband & we both have decent mobile phone packages, so there's no way I'd get a landline in.

bah! just a couple of weeks after i took up this offer and now sky are giving a €100 cheque on top of it...would so have gone for HD if this was on offer at the time :(

    http://www.fatcheese.ie/cashback/sky-ireland/
Join Sky TV as a new customer before the 26 April and not only will you get the Sky+/Sky+HD box for FREE, standard set-up for FREE and up to €165 cashback from FatCheese... you'll also receive a €100 cheque direct from Sky!

A Sky+ package starts from only €23 per month (or €276 for the year). With the €100 cheque plus €67.50 cashback saving from FatCheese for the Sky+ package, it reduces the total cost for the year to €108.50... that's only €9.04 per month!

Experience the TV you love like never before with Sky+HD. With Sky+HD, you'll gain access to Ireland's widest range of HD channels, including Sky Atlantic HD, Sky1 HD and Sky Living HD, plus your everyday favourites like BBC HD and E4 HD, and you'll earn €150 cashback + the €100 cheque!

Interested in the Sky Movies, Sky Sports or ESPN packs? There's a €5 cashback bonus for each pack you take up... take all three with Sky+HD and that's a total €165 cashback saving or a €265 saving when you include the cheque!

I went for that offer today. Got them to wave the no telephone fee too. Only thing is when I put my details into fatcheese there is a bloody pop up bar across the date of installation so I can't do it.

Thats to stop you getting 2 boxes and using the card in another house. If you dont have multiroom not an issue.

Just wondering if anybody has gotten this recently? Just a question:

When I click "get cash back" on fatcheese it brings me to Sky but then requires a good few more clicks, and a €25 credit card payment! Will this go through and result in me getting my €50 cash back plus €135 for the HD deal thru fatcheese? Or am I better off calling up Sky myself?

Do you need a phone line? My apartment doesn't have one..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dolallyoh

How will you ring them so ?

    :D

Don't need a phone line. They might charge you a little extra on install though to waive it.

unless it's changed recently you do need a land line when you order it. but then when the person comes out to install it they won't be that bothered (unless you're unfortunate to get someone really fussy)

but yeah as far as i know they'll need one for their records when you ring so if you can get a friend or a relation's number just give them that. (you can still gie them a mobile as the number you wish to be contacted on)

I can't help with the Fatcheese part but I had sky installed last week. They charge €37.50 for installation without a phone line.

You don't need the line. Best start out as you mean to go on so pay the waiver and have no line. Never used fatcheese sorry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

you don't need a landline UNLESS you get multiroom, in which case both boxes need to be connected to the phoneline constantly to avoid people getting it and then shipping the extra box off to their ex-pat family members in spain or whatever.

also, might be worth mentioning for existing subscribers that last year i got a free HD box upgrade with no strings attached (just a very basic subscription and no HD sub at all) for nothing more than agreeing to stay on my current sub for another 12 months, just by threatening to cancel my subscription.

i set a reminder on my phone to ring up and try again after 12 months to see what they'd offer to keep me so I rang them the other day pleading poverty and announcing my intention to cancel the subscription and they said they'd drop the subscription from €29 a month to €21.75 (the most he had the power to do) for the whole year if I agreed to stay with them for another 12 months.

not bad going for a 5 minute phone call and I've set another reminder for next year. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dolallyoh

You can also get multiroom without a sub. I know a few people who have done this, just said to Sky - I don't have the line, I have cash though, and sky took the money. Not a given but not impossible either.

i tried a few months ago when i moved house and they wouldn't do it without a line, even though i already had both boxes cabled up and a quad LNB installed on the dish etc. and were insisting that they couldn't do anything about the 15 quid fee, even though i was only on the basic €29 package to begin with.

i was on the verge of leaving til i calmed down a bit, but then i got the reminder on my phone to call back and threaten to leave to get freebies and figured i'd give it up if i didn't get anything, but they gave me the 25% so i'll stick with them for a while.

still can't stomach 15 quid for multiroom though, it's a ripoff compared to UPC.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dolallyoh

The three guys I know who got away with it paid for the full Monty, hd, multiroom, sports, movies, all had new apartments and said I will never be getting a phone line.

I suspect you were done on grounds of not being a high roller!

I ditched my sky years ago, no regrets.
