Goodbye KV: Ode to a friend :(

Tis with a heavy heart I write this post.

My Sony Trinitron KV-32LS35E died today, the tube went :(

For eight years we've been together now. When others have let me down, he was always there. No money to go out .. we just stayed home together and said 'Fcuk it, who needs 'em'. Sure, we both seen better days, me in '89 and him in '02, but that didn't bother us none, as we had each other. When I came home, KV would always be there waiting for me. Me and my Trinitron KV against the world.

So, if I may take a few moments of your time, I'd just like to make an ode, to KV - a good friend:

Goodbye KV, A Man & His TV
    !

Grief it has walked up to me once more,
Tapped me on the shoulder just like before,

Another I love has up and died,
My big-ass TV, is now all but fried :(

I loved you KV, just like a friend,
Not once did you ever, EVER need a mend,

Be it Comedy or Drama, the choice didn't matter
Watching it with you, it just felt better,

During the Tiger, when we were all living flash.
I held on to you, despite all the cash,

They told me I was mad, plasma's the way!
BUY one they cried, they've a better display.

A better display?? Plasma's the way??
Nah, I'm okay, I'll not betray!

Go on, buy another, it's just a TV!!
Are you crazy man, that's my friend .. his name's KV.

Well that was then and this is now,
A broken TV and a furrowed brow,

So thanks for the faps, you never looked down,
I'll see you again, next time around.

So my good people, is it just me - or have any of you also become attached to something that, while not "technically" alive, none-the-less meant a a lot to you. Something that, despite others saying it was time to move on, you wanted to keep. Maybe a car, house or apartment - anything really? Maybe just even another TV?

    /Wipes away tears :(

    RIP.

I feel for ya Pete. I have a Continental Edison analogue TV that I have in my studio. Same as this one... http://lyon.voisineo.com/images/photos_annonces/1233770816-8345903.jpg

I've had it since around 93. I've watched every Man United champions league match on it since then. I even watch then on it now despite having a fuck off Sony TV in the sitting room. It's more intimate & the picture is still crystal clear.

I'd be gutted if it packed in.

Sorry to hear that bud. Long time to have a TV. But I have to ask, did you set a timer on your camera so you wouldn't be seen in the reflection of the TV?

That's not KV in the pic, I just Google'd one of his brothers out there in this cold mean world and posted it instead.

Couldn't bring myself to take a photo of him like that.

It's kinda hard to believe I won't see that Flat Screen light up again, watch Top Gear, a football match or even a episode of Loose Women as we always liked to at lunchtimes.

Why did this have to happen, why?

Ya I asked the question, then I wondered why I asked it? Irrelevant question on my behalf so I deleted it... R.I.P KV!

damn pete.. :( dunno what to say.

yknow its 8yr now since i was forced to part with my trinitron.. she was good to me. but some things are just meant to happen, u know? sometimes a change needs to be enforced if needs be? without outside intervention. hate to say it - but yer gonna have to get with the times.

trust me when that sleek and shiny new 46" LED is beaming back at you and bringing the colour back into your life, you'll know it was for the best.

    sincerely

Well, me and KV watched a lot of programmes over the years about people donating organs and I think he would have like to know that in some way, he too became a donor. So I will recycle what I can of him, but not the screen .. I just think it would be weird to think of another TV using KV's screen.

8 years isn't great service tbh, unless you used it non stop.
I'd be a bit pissed off at it.

Had a tv that kept going for about 20 years. Was sad when it stopped working. Perhaps it was fixable but I wouldn't have had the know how.

This is brilliant... TV too big for your wall cabinet? Just cut a hole in the side of it, problem solved...

8 years is not much, for a trinitron at that mine was in service about 14yr it got handed down / it died / it got it fixed and i squeezed another 4yr out of it. or thereabouts.. was glad it died. be glad, pete - loads of good flat tv's for relatively cheap now

I owned one of KV's brothers until he passed from a similiar problem a few years ago, must be a hereditary thing.

Losing a TV is always hard, stay strong Pete........................KV would want you to.

Have an ancient 25+ year old Tristar TV that's outlived them all and is still going, the hard bastard.

Nah man, give the TV a proper send off, say a few kind words and bury it out the back garden!

I have my BlackDiamond tv lasting me 11 years so far and still counting!
It has its faults like randomly turning off, blackscreen but sound and picture are stll nate on it.

Will genuinely be sorry to see it go (And I say its coming soon.. :(

But over thousands of hours of tv, Ps1. gamecube, playstation 2. dreamcast, xbox, Xbox360 and finally ps3. She has did me very well

As for the send off, c4 and bobs your uncle!!

Rest assured that it's with all those other tv's that have gone on permeanent standby, up there in that T.V heaven, in the sky.

Maybe you could enquire about donating it to a museum, or some tv collector.

Do you think she is as attached to it as Outlawpete was his?

I ask this as I think with a little help you could get an Eastenders kind of baby swap thing going on and bring that man his happiness back, neither of them need know!

We all know KV's brother will be better off with Outlawpete, women just can't bond with TV's like men can.

The man is crying out for help!

Do not read the spoiler tags OP - I have said some really nasty things in there about KV, how he was not a real TV and such - it will only bring you down more!

By the way, at least you still have the remote? if so it is still a little part of KV that is still alive and well - you and him could still have great fun stalking people that may very well reply to this thread saying they have one of those boxes. He would be acting like a spirit from the other side as you change their channels through the window reigning terror on their perfect lives!

I don't think OutlawPete really wants to resort to violence on his old friend, maybe sometimes, they should be let go in peace.

    Sorry for your loss. :(

I too suffered a similar loss recently, the hard drive on my laptop packed in, though it was partly my own fault as it died a violent death when I slammed my hands on the laptop from frustration and overtiredness when itunes would open up.

Nearly 3 years of data and my life.... all gone down the drain. :(

Fourtunately, I salavaged a hard drive from my brothers old laptop that wouldn't start up and brought my laptop back to life but it still hurts man, all that data, just gone.

I have a flat screen on the wall in my bedroom,it lulls me to sleep nightly. The wife unplugged it to hoover one time and it stopped working, flashing red light, blank screen. I tried everything, plugging it in and out, pressing the remote several hundred times, banging the side, I even bounced it on the bed, nothing worked. I eventually brought it a guru friend of mine who fixes everything, he plugged it in,turned it on and fook me,it worked. I finally figured out that it's hooked on the leky, unplug it and it suffers withdrawls and won't work for several days, but leave it plugged in constantly and it's fine.

That thread about Midsummer Murders being the highlight of my week .. well that was really for KV.

Although I didn't know KV, I'm very sorry for your loss Pete. KV is probably in a better place now. There's probably not much I can say to make you feel any better right now, but time heals all wounds. KV will never be replaced but you in time WILL find another TV.
I too lost a Sony trinitron many years ago, and now am once again happy since I met new TV. It's a sexy Panny. Very slim and dark. It glows all day and is easily turned on waiting for me every night when I get home from work.
KV will be in my thoughts.

Pete, very sorry for your loss, but I kinda know what you're going through..
You see, I had a nice little bush in my bedroom. Nothing fancy, just a little bush.
The thing is you see, it was dependable, always there for me. Manys a good evening me and my bush had until one day I came home and my bush was gone from my bedroom..
I've asked questions, hell, I even screamed a little, But soon enough I came to realise My bush was gone forever.....

We had a 27" JVC that my husband had for around 8 years too. It was working grand but the tube was going. We replaced it last year.

    *hugs* poor tv.
