Depends on the car etc, it says from €250. They've been the best by a good bit for me over the last few years.

Very strange, a Passat would have little risk loading on it, they must have taken their quote of males under 30 for the month or something .

A mate of mine works in 123.ie and told me how they work. Im sure he rest of them work this way too.

This is the best way to play them at their own game.
    - You get your quote which is at least 35+ percent more than you should get.
    - You ignore it and they send you an email or give you a call.
    - Suddenly their price is down by 20% from the original.
    - You hit them with quotes of 35 - 40% below their offer that you have got from ringing around (ALWAYS RING AROUND - Insurance companies make their money from laziness)
    - They will match your best quote.

or you could do it the alternative way
    - get your quote from 123.ie
    - Take it and pay through the nose.

    Which is better?

Also 123.ie when giving you a renewal quote will also add a minimum of 35% on to the renewal price. Most people just take it. Ring around and then ring 123.ie back and you'll find hundreds in savings waiting for you.

Check out the small print on the ad next time, it gives the criteria the €250 quote is based on.

38 year old woman, 6 years NCB on a 1.something.....

If your going to complaint about something atleast get the facts right

123.ie offer "car insurance FROM 250 euros.."

The wording makes all the differences, the advert is still not incorrect :)

    DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

your about 20 posts behind the rest of us, we all know the "FROM" 250 euro part, my point was being, its stupid trying to put across the massive impression of theyre car insurance seeming ridiculously cheap when infact its 4 times more expensive then theyre slogan suggests lol :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭NeVeR

I did both 2 weeks ago

    I'm 28 male, 7 years NCB's I'm living in tallaght.
Never had a crash or any points .

    car: 2006 Honda Accord

    123 wanted €910 fully comp.
nononsense was looking for €550 thats with break down assist and windscreen cover !

    123 are a rip off.

I think you need to be 50 years old.. no claims and driving a 1.2 lt living on bubble wrap island to get €250

123.ie quoted me €366 for the ZT (2.5 only 180bhp though) a week ago, I'm 30 with full NCD, full license and 0 points. Will try nononsence later on :) Insurance is up on the 10th April.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭Uriel.

I've been with 5 different companies for each of the last 5 yrs. Was with 123 up until my last renewal. I had moved house during tw insurance year, I rang them about 6 weeks before before my renewal date and asked them if they'd send the renewal docs to my new address (also had my hose insurance with them). They wanted a 40euro admin charge to change the address on the car insurance renewal docs. I kicked up about it, they said they couldn't do anything about it. So I told them to leave the address as it was - they were very concerned that I wouldn't get the renewal documents so I told them that was my problem.

Anyway I arranged with the people in my old place to collect the docs from them when they arrived. Needless to say my car and house insurance was renewed with other companies. So the lost a nice but of business. Then they had the neck to ring me 4 times about why I dint renew with them. They got some earful from me

The real cost of 123.ie comes in when you need to do anything to your policy.. Thats the cost you gotta watch. Say you need to transfer your insurance for a week to another car.. bam €10 admin fee (I think it might actually be €40 i havent had to do it in a while) anything you do attracts a fee.. these things can quickly add up.

123.ie is a waste of time. They gave me a quote of €420 fully comp including breakdown assistance....for a 99 skoda octavia Tdi.
I rang them back a week later to buy this product, and they said the rate had changed.
They promised to ring me back the next day with an updated quote, when they didn't return my call, I got the same product from AXA for €450.

In fairness there is small print on the ad, quote based on 1.2l 02 vw polo male 35 no points, driving car 1000miles a year etc etc, something like that.

    There is always small print!!

Exactly, there are always conditions on these things.I got fully comp on a Saab 2litre turbo for 500 one year and a renewal quote of 476 the next with them.I could not fault them. You hardly expect to get 290 or close to it for everyone.

you have to be a mid-thirties female driving a Yaris with loads of no claims to get the €250 thing

I never found them remotely competitive and that's without factoring in the lack of breakdown cover for free on their motor insurance policy :)

Nononsense.ie are a bit looney for me really.......

    3rd party f & t €283.64 which is good but then...

No Claims Discount Protection [Add €108.00]
Policyholder driving other cars [Add €27.50]
    Breakdown Assistance Cover [Add €55.00]
    Windscreen/Glass Breakage [Add €25.25

    so it's really €500, f that.
