    There is no recall but its not the 1k + repair it was. I think you get it repaired for 300+ euro.

    Are all post 2005 Passat steering locks faulty?

    I was driving my 06 VW passat on sat when the steering locked while going round a corner...luckily managed to control it and get to safety, but scary all the same. Not sure if it's connected with this thread but just wondering if this has happened others? PS last service was done in main dealers and steering column lock was replaced...

    Sorry for digging out an old topic but had to have this repaired on my 08 Passat 2.0tdi today.
    Blackwater motors in Cork are doing for €250.

    i have a 06 passat the steering feels stiff and not quite right also green steering wheel indicator on dash is lit up is this how this problem starts any reply s welcome thank you.

    The symptoms mine threw up was problems starting the car and a yellow coil flashing on the dash

    Mine had an engine management light warning and yellow coil flashing. The engine would also cut out which id try to start it.
    As it got worse the display would say Steering Lock Defective.

    Have a similar issue with my 05 Passast at the minute, warning light flashing. Think issue initially began when the battery died (have ready that this is sometimes the root cause of this issue). Since then, has been driving fine since last Summer. Has been suggested to me to bring to VW garage and get them to remove steering column lock unit completely. Supposedly the cheapest way around this issue, obviously won't have the steering lock mechanism in future. Anyone heard of this before or know any other issues this may cause?
