I haven't been here all that long...but I've noticed a lot of comments from people that seem to be anti-NI. Two posters on a thread last night described it as a 'kip' although they didn't back it up with any reasons why they think it is a 'kip'. Others have said that the border should be dug round and let it float away (how this is possible, I don't know). So...do boardies dislike NI (or it's people). If so...why?

No its just important to be bitter on AH. It doesn't really matter what you are being bitter against just as long as you are suitably angry.

Why not ask the people who made the comments what their reasoning is?

If you mean on average, then no, the 3 posts you saw are not representative of the feelings of the vast majority of posters on boards.ie but to be honest, that should be fairly obvious.

I'd guess 90 odd per cent of interactions I have had with people from Northern Ireland have been decidedly negative.

I have a couple of friends from the North but by and large Northerners I have come across have been loud, obnoxious, scumbags, intent on playing the 'Is it becoz I am (insert various political persuasion here)' victim card and acting like they exist in a world outside of politeness and acceptable behaviour where the normal rules don't apply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,400 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

I didn't read your post OP cos it was too long but I am working on a possible way to dig along the border so NI can be cut off from the rest of the country.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

Sadly a few idiots that post from the north, do so oft time with an agenda and/or chip on their shoulder.
I read their posts but do not consider them to be automatically representative of the rest of their side of the border.

Subsequently IF (and I can't remember even if I ever have) I have joked about the North, I would do so lightly and in a way that is easy to see that I'm not serious - and would treat my own side of the border with equal jesting/leg pulling.
I suspect the rest of us here possessed with a modicum of a working brain, would do similar.
    I would hope so.

In uniting the Dubs and the Culchies, anti-Northern bias is to be welcomed here on AH.

Now, if only the three of us could form an alliance against Cork people...

the whole reason that the north of Ireland was taken over was because of its beautiful lush lands - and anyone that has ever been up there will vouch for its beauty and stunning scenery.

so those two people have no idea what they are talking about.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,689 ✭✭✭✭OutlawPete

There's anti-nationalist sentiment on Boards for sure, but not an "anti-northerner" one.

Irish people just don't like to hear their own complaining about others (even if it is completely justified).

They associate nationalists and nationalism with being racist/not-very-right-on and so they attack them in an effort to distance themselves from their opinions - with the hope that, in the process they retain their "right-on" status.

I was wondering if this is where it stems from, i.e, idiot posters from NI that get everybody tarred with the same brush. It's refreshing to see that someone else does not automatically see them as being representative.

As for the accent thing...yes, certain areas of NI have accents that grate. I also find the Dublin accent a bit much. Does that automatically mean I dislike Dubliners - certainly not.

There's an anti everything thing going on in AH, depends on the group of posters.

There's an odd few that probably hate the place, personally I hate the tit for tat cesspit it turned into in the mid to late 80's.

There's a group who hate Republicans.

There's Republicans who hate "West Brits, war veterans and Blueshirts".

    And then there is KeithAFC.
