    Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any info about the Nutron Blood test? I had one done years ago in 1996 but the clinic I had the test in has now closed. ( I think it was called "Inches Slimming Clinic") Does anyone know if this test is still available as I found following it quite easy and felt wonderful on it. Cheers for any answers.:)

Thanks for reply. I found a clinic in Galway and have made an appointment. I'll be getting a blood test done at the end of the month. It really worked for me the last time and hope fully it will work again for me. Thanks for your reply.

Yea i did the nutron years and years ago. I lost about 4 stone on it but it was very severe. There was no alcohol or eating out ever, The moment I came off the strict diet, I put all the weight back on in the space of 3 months. Still I suppose I should have done a maintenance plan but I wanted to be normal after hibernating for 6 months!!

Doest anyone know how much it costs this time around and do you have to pay to go to the weekly visits?

    Hi again,

I have inquired about the price, It's 300 euro for basic analysis of what foods you're intolerant to. - I think 150 foods are tested with the basic NuTron test. Then it's 570 euro for 200 plus foods and a rotation diet plan and follow up consultations with a nurse to track your progress.

I know it's a lot of money but it is a plan to suit your own body's chemistry and not a diet plan that "One suits all" . It's amazing that some people could be eating all the salad they want to stay thin and it migt be the very foods that are causing a food intolerance and weight gain.

They recommend that you get tested every 2 years to keep on top of your food intolerances.

I'll have my test at the end of the month. Hope this info is some help to others.

    Here's some advice:

Avoid as much processed foods, preservatives and additives as possible. Even prepared foods like casseroles, spreads, loaves and soups may contain ingredients you should avoid. Eat simple, whole, identifiable foods, organic wherever possible. Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables. Check food labels often, especially if the package or price changes, because formulations can sometimes change without warning.

I got that for free from their website, didn't cost me a cent and it's about the only thing I'd take from it. By all means go for the test, you said it worked before but I think any diet that is going to take away a staple of your diet e.g. bread/potatoes is going to make you lose weight. I've known people to use this before and that was one of the big things, no bread, no drinking and no eating out...anyone could lose weight like that as long as you stick to whole foods and avoid processed stuff.

Do you still have the diet plan/test results from the last time? It would be interesting to compare the two and see if you are any more/less tolerant to whatever they test you for and the plan they give you!
Best of luck with it, hope you keep us updated!

    Hi again,

Yes I found my results from the last NuTron test sheet ( Aug 1st 1996 and it's A4 size paper) It lists my food intolerances in decreasing order of reactivity.

It says Walnut(most reactive), Trout, Baker's yeast, Turnip, Olive, Lemon, Strawberry, Radish, Coconut, Brewer's yeast, Soya bean,Tomato,Grape, Onion, Baked bean, Sesame seed, Malt, Black pepper,Curry powder(says on info sheet-they check the average blend of spices) and Chocoloate(least reactive).

also says on sheet that I have a Candida reaction so I must avoid all foods with mould or that are mould containing or that feed the yeast in your body- must avoid melon( it moulds from the inside) , sugar cane sugar beet, mushrooms, cheese , vinegars and alcohol.

All of the above is printed on a red column (on the left of the sheet). The green column(on the right of the sheet) lists all the foods to which I had no intolerance to.

I did miss tomatoes the most but it does say that most likely the foods to which you're intolerant - you eat the most on a day to day basis.

It will be interesting to see if some of the same foods crop up again, I think I'll always have a candida reaction as I do crave yeasty foods.

Hope this info helps but I think the newer NuTron test is probably more advanced than the older one.

Hope this info is some help.

    It's a great help thanks! :)
It's helped me to decide to stay away from unproven procedures like ALCAT and companies like Nu Tron that peddle thier wares :)

I'm surprised wheat is not in there, it probably wasn't a big thing in 1996. Also no animal protein intolerance? Score! ;)

    Hi again,

There were no intolerances to the Grains(Gluten and Gliadin), meats and fish (except trout) I had no reaction to Milk( Lactose, whey and whole milk). Thinking back I really did not eat much meat at the time and loved veggie burgers, maybe that was why soyabean and sesame came up?
I had no reation to eggs( egg yolk and egg white were tested for)

I can't speak for everyone Zamboni but I know this test worked for me and that is why I'm trying it again.

I think everyone's body is unique and will react uniquely to certain foods.
Also applying common sense such as exercise and everything in moderation makes it fun to follow. I have tested this test before by making a whole wheat scone and adding coconut to it( after a period of avoiding the offending foods for 4 weeks and working from chocolate up the rungs of different foods) and did get a strong headache 5-10 mins after. I thought wow! It does work - your body lets you know what it does not like. I remember that meal well because it was an experiment! ha ha

The only thing is you have to be so careful preparing food- just one hidden ingredient can undo your hard work after avoiding your "banned foods"

I have looked at the ALCAT site and the new test seems to be more updated.

    Hope this info helps.

    Hi again,

I had blood drawn on tuesday at lunchtime for the Nutron test. They send the blood by DHL to Berlin in Germany. The nurse said it would be there by 6.30pm. I have to wait 8 days until my results but I'm thinking it may take around 10 because of the bank holiday weekend.

Then I have to go back to the clinic and meet a nutritionist to tell me how to follow it properly. I think I have to go back once a week to track my progress but I'll let you know.

Hope everyone is enjoying the great weather.

    Hi everyone

I got my results this evening. I hope this link works so you can see them. I'm going to have a bit of a blow out before I start to follow it this weekend. It's a bit of a shock compared to last time, this time milk and the cereals mentioned are out. I've blocked out my name and the clinic to keep it private but this is what the sheet looks like. It's an A4 size.

Keep you posted on how I'm getting on. Good luck to others getting it done. :)

Sorry OP this is not aimed at you but I just want to lay one thing to rest.

<RANT>There is NO BLOOD TEST FOR FOOD INTOLERANCES. There are things that claim to be, but they are quackary and have the same chance as being right as a psychic medium does.

The gall of these people charging vast sums of money for absolutely nothing. It pisses me off no end!</RANT>

My sister did this. They told her she was allergic to just about everything except bacon, cheddar and potatoes and a couple of veggies. She was very hungry for a couple of days, until she started frying bacon and spuds and pouring melted cheese over the top for every meal. Funny enough, she didn't lose any weight.

And I noticed that the literature that came with her list of allowed foods has, in very small writing, "if you are allergic to any of these foods, do not consume".

    Hi again.

I know this diet worked for me- That is why I'm trying it again.
It is not an allergy test but an intolerance test. They explained that an allergy is usually quite immediate in your body's response- but with a food intolerance it's usually delayed and much more subtle . I'm not a scientist or want to step on anyone's toes but again the reason I am trying this is because it worked for me.

I had Psoriasis on my back when I was younger- NEVER took my top off ever when playing or even when I was at the beach. I tried all sorts of tablets and creams , when I tried this when I was 19 - my psoriasis cleared up within 3 weeks- so maybe some people will understand why I am trying it again.

Hopefully someone soon who has the test may post their experience of this test an illuminate some light on it.

Are you doing this to lose weight ? or clear up your psoriasis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

They test your food intolerances from a blood test?

On what basis? Are there clinical trials published in reputable journals?

If not, then we can safely put it in the quackery box.

If any of these things worked ie.Nutron, Weightwatchers, etc, there would be no need to go back again and again. For weight loss - the only thing that works is to eat less and excercise more.

Although I agree with your main point, don't nutron, WW and pretty much every diet make you eat less and move more? Seems that advice really isn't all that more helpful IMO.

Well they all work really, don't they? Its just that they never tell you that you have to eat less and move more for the rest of your life...

Reading the WW thread on here is just amazing - I saw someone annouce that they were starting WW for the 10th time! Seriously, did none of the previous NINE times you put on the weight not seem like a clue?

Aye, that's in the fine print of every diet, lol!

Re: WW, I suppose practise makes perfect?:) The problem with a plan that worked for you once, is that you always think 'ah well I did it before' so you can keep falling off the wagon, weird logic I know but I definitely think there is such as thing as a 'golden shot' with any plan be it low carb, slimming world, macrobiotic etc. after which you will never repeat the same level of success again as you did the first time.

    lol @ 'practice makes perfect'

Yep, totally agree with you - I tried WW twice, ended up heavier than when I started and it was pretty rubbish the second time - I think you are completely right about the 'golden shot'... now I just need to find the thing that works for me and I can stick with for the rest of my flipping life... lol

That's why I constantly tweak things and try and cycle as many things as I can, I think it keeps my body guessing.

I would advise anyone to stay away from this diet, it cost €570 to get your blood tested and still you have to pay €10 per week to weigh in after that. I started the diet recently and lost 3 Ibs in 6 weeks and I stuck to my list 100%, it was an absolute joke. Every week you go back they say something different if your not losing weight, always an excuse. They weigh you with bathroom scales which gives you a different reading everytime you stand on it. The program seems to be run totally different in all clinics, there is no consistency at all. I paid for 200 foods and that did not even include tea and coffee, a lot of the foods are things you would never eat or find in most supermarkets. You have to be prepare to spend a lot of money in the heath shop each week also.

Have you read the thread? There are some pretty knowledgeable and qualified people replying in this thread. I really would urge you not to waste money - far better spent even on a good PT

Just in case anyone was in any doubt as to the validity of these types of blood test.

A Strong Message to Pharmacists about IgG Food Sensitivity Testing
There is no body of research that supports the use of this test to diagnose adverse reactions to food or to predict future adverse reactions. The literature currently suggests that the presence of specific IgG to food is a marker of exposure and tolerance to food, as seen in those participating in oral immunotherapy studies. Hence, positive test results for food-specific IgG are to be expected in normal, healthy adults and children. Furthermore, the inappropriate use of this test only increases the likelihood of false diagnoses being made, resulting in unnecessary dietary restrictions and decreased quality of life.

Hey I just thought I would give my input on this thread having had personal experience on what I can only call the new version of the nutron test.

Ok so it was back in 2004 and I had what they called the IMMOGENICS test.

It cost over 300 euro as far as I can remember and what I had to do was go to St Vincents private hospital (not certain about this but it was a private hospital in D4) I was shown into a room and had my blood taken which was then sent off for analysis to Holland.

For your interest is a very dirty hardly readable A4 page with my food groups, red green and yellow..you get the idea.

I must say even though this may be quackery I do find and always have found problems with lamb and brazil nuts and aubergine, not so much though with any other foods on my red list.

They provided phone support etc but I didnt end up really using it. I recently have been doing an atkins like diet and must say its the first thing that has worked really well for me personally.
