    They shall remain nameless...unless it's a success :pac::p

For now we can forget about a date....let's concentrate on these issues:

--First I guess the main thing is to figure out where in Ireland the majority of folks are.

--Then we can decide to hold it in the nearest big town so folks could either grab taxis home or ones who would be travelling down could stay in a hostel/b'n'b/hotel.

Well I'm in Donegal but I be down in Dublin for various beers and Galway too. So I don't mind travelling :)

I could possibly be interested in this, will just depend on if it suits time wise, venue etc:)

Would be interested, but the issue is who would look after the dogs while I'm out having fun?

Would it be an idea to have this around some sort of event like a big show or pet expo or something?

Might be an idea alright AJ. Anything coming up in the next few months?

Tallon - we'd have to have an API picnic if we were to bring the pets :D

I'd imagine the majority are around the Dub area. I'm in Kildare.

I might be way off the mark but I have a feeling your average API poster is commitment heavy, short of time and in a lot of cases not overly interested in the alcohol element ;)

Yeah that would be kinda cool! :)

But then folks would have their pets with them and wouldn't be able to have few beers and maybe certain pubs wouldn't allow pets in....

Would be cool to bring pets Tallon! But would they all get on is the question :pac:

EDIT: Seen the other posts! Sorry I just love me a bit of alcohol :P The picnic sounds like an awesome idea though at some stage!

Pet expo isn't until October, I'm sure there would be a few big shows on now though comming into summer.

haha I didn't think of that. But there might be a few who're happy to have a night out.

I hadn't thought of that either. Maybe best to just choose a date that suits the majority.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭Cherry Blossom

Well I'll be trying my best to get to the pet expo this year and I'll be looking to go to a few IKC shows etc. as well in my current dog-seeking status. I don't drink though so it wouldn't be worth my while travelling for the sake of drinking a few 7-ups and I usually leave at first signs of any "messyness" :p

Maybe the first thing to do is ask everyone where in the country they are, maybe the majority aren't based around Dublin. :D

    I'm in Sligo

I'd be DELIGHTED if the majority were closer to the west. A great excuse for a weekend away. :D

So I'm in Kildare - but perfectly happy to travel.

AJ I take umbrage to your suggestion of "messyness" :p

Can understand what you mean about it not being exactly worth your while if you are only drinking some 7ups and the expense of travelling or staying over somewhere....buuuuut it could be awesome :p

I'm in Donegal but will travel for alcohol :pac::D

It's not just the travelling and staying over expenses, there's also the kennel expenses and getting someone to sort out my horses which everyone else is extremely reluctant to do, is it any wonder I often question why exactly I have been providing free childcare to people for so long when they won't even dog-sit overnight once in a blue moon in return  Makes for the most expensive 7-up ever. Anyway I'm in Donegal as well so if we can find one more we'll out-number the Kildare folks and make them have it here :p

Do I need a poll with general areas?

    What areas?

Yeah a poll is a good idea
How about Dublin and surrounds, Mid West (to include Limerick, Tipp, Clare) and so on and so forth??
    I vote Mid West!

How about north west, mid west, south west, midlands, south east, north east, dublin.

    Would that cover all?

    I'd be up for a Galway meet-up!:o:D
It'll be hard to find a place to suit everyone. I couldn't afford to get away for a night though I'm afraid. Also getting someone to look after the dogs (all 9 of them!) wouldn't be an easy task.

hope a night can be arranged though

Poll added and I was as thorough as I could be. I got the groupings from irishtourist.com, so not my fault if your county is in the wrong area :D

Please vote if you think you might be interested in going.

Well it was never going to be in Donegal :p, I'm within an hour and a half of Sligo and Leitrim which I thought would be both NW, Monaghan could be do-able and Dublin could be considered if I could find another excuse to go but not Galway, so I don't know what to choose

So I think we can safely agree it's going to be in Dublin+Surrounds.

Most probably a toss up between Dublin city or Kildare with Tallon :p

I'm not in Ireland anymore, so won't be attending, but I have a suggestion for future beers (after ye've all met and have some degree of rapport, of course!): what about a barbecue or picnic/potluck of some kind with beers in a park or large property where you could bring your dogs? If this were Canada you could've used my 10 acres or so, I always wanted to do something like that.

I mean, it is A&PI, after all! :p

Well you aint allowed to drink alcohol in public....though folks could always use a coke bottle or cidona bottle to hide their whiskey and coke or Bulmers :pac: I doubt we would be getting highly intoxicated anyway:p

Picnic in a park is definitely an awesome idea :) Hmmm a BBQ in the park ha! The dogs would be crowded round wanting first dibs :p
Are you even allowed to use those little disposable barbeques in parks I wonder? They might be a fire haazard or some kind of risk.

Sounds like the voice of experience :P

So then if dublin or Kildare have won, how do we decide where. And how do you think we should establish the date?

Liah, a very good idea. I think, maybe after an initial meet up, we could run with that idea. I'm sure we'd find the land somewhere. On private property (I have somewhere in mind actually!)

    When it comes to alcohol......YES! \o/ :p

As for the date we can hold off on that for the moment and just get the place folks would want to drink in first.
The date is always the tricky one. We can do a seperate thread with a poll of the various possible dates/months folks would wanna have it on.
No matter what I'm figuring a Saturday will be the biggest choice for most folks?

It all depends on what the people who picked Dublin or Kildare wish to do.
Are they willing to go into the general Dublin city centre area for the beers or would they want to pick a town in Kildare they all live near?

There might be late buses people could get home or if folks lived in general area near each other they could share a taxi.

So all the folks who picked Dublin/Kildare where would yous like to go drinking!! :D
