    Anyone do this?

Finding it hard to keep them fresh all of the time so think tonight I am gonna cook up ten and use them during the week. I have used the freezer some weeks them but sometimes forget to take them out of the in time and end up buying more.

    How long will they keep?

Myself and partner will be eating them.

Personally, I usually slice them thin, then freeze them. Then you can take them out of the freezer and throw them straight onto the pan and cook them like rashers.

    based on the FDA website:
    A. Raw chicken usually lasts 1 - 2 days in the refrigerator
    B. Cooked chicken usually keeps 3 - 4 days in the refrigerator
    C. Chicken pieces covered with sauce or gravy last only 1 - 2 days in the refrigerator
    D. Chicken nuggets or patties only last 1 -2 days in the refrigerator

I don't trust raw chicken in the fridge, had a couple of bad experiences with it before. Whenever I buy chicken fillets, I wrap them seperately in cling film and pop them in the freezer. I defrost them as I need them in the microwave for a few minutes. I've been doing this for years and I've never sickened anyone!

Well, that's not what he was asking! :) I like chicken breast, cooked nicely. I think it gets a hard time, and is fashionable to dismiss at these days.

Maybe if you're not very good at cooking

if your interested in a seriously tasty recipe for them.

    * In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, cayenne, paprika, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, onion powder, thyme and parsley.
    * Sprinkle spice mixture generously on both sides of chicken breasts.
    * Heat butter and olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Saute chicken until golden brown, about 6 minutes on each side. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons garlic powder and lime juice.
    * Cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently to coat evenly with sauce.

    Yum bloody yum !

I use chicken fillets at least 3 times a week!! I bought the chicken pieces once and found that there wasn't a lot in the packet - I use fillets for making curries, stews, casseroles - there are loads of options. Or you can butterfly them and stuff them, cover them with a strip of bacon & bake, coat them in spices, stir fry them, or make chicken skewers with roasting veg. Not boring at all!!

I find butcher bought chicken fillets to go off far quicker than supermarket prepacked ones.

That said, I far prefer the quality and taste of butchers fillets rather than the supermarket variety which I find very bland and tasteless and always need seasoning or marinating.

If ye want real taste and value, get a whole chicken and roast that bad boy. Fillets are bland, thats why theyre so popular

freezing is the best way to go about it... i usually put 2 or 3 in individual freezer bags as they can stick together quite well once frozen. then its just a matter of dropping the bag into a bowl of cold water the night before i intend to use them.. or defrosting in the microwave on the day. if you boil them they will keep a couple of days longer than storing them raw in the fridge, and you can just throw them in at the end of cooking.

Yes! Only good for smothering with curry sauce or some such. Even then...

If people are finding chicken fillets to be tasteless you're cooking them badly or eating really crap chickens.

I always freeze chicken fillets in bulk when they are on special offer, then thaw them as needed. I can't imagine trying to get through 10 in the fridge in a week without them going off, even if they were already cooked

If you don't take them out in time just defrost them a bit in the microwave as suggested. I defrost them enough to be able to cut them into chunks and then fire them into curry, pies, stir fries etc. As someone else said I've been doing this for about 10 years and have never done anyone any harm!

I would definately agree with the whole chicken being tastier, also the carcass when finished is great for making stock and putting into soups and stews, gives far better flavour then just the breast meat.
Boil up your carcass for about 40mins, then remove the bones. You can freeze the stock as well which is handy.

I eat chicken fillets on a daily basis.I freeze them individually that way I only thaw the required amount and cook them with different ingredients to alter the way you eat them so as to take boredom out of eating them every day.I would recommend you not to keep them in the fridge for more than one night and not to keep reheating it either.

So cooked fillets will last 4 days in the fridge? Literally dont have the time myself to be cooking everyday :(
