    hi everyone,
wasn't sure which forum to put this on.... maybe the ART one would be better?

Basically I want to sign up to the Ladies Mini Maraton but before I do I want to just double check a few things as this is the first time for me,

    1. If I register now and my friend registers in a month.... will we be able to start off together? Or is it done in order, ie. does everyone have to get in order with their number badges?

    2. I've been looking on the official website but I can't find the answer to this question.... basically what are the different categories? I want to jog/run the race but I have no previous proof of my speed as this is my first race. Is there a category that I can run in but I can walk part of too if needs be? Or is that just the walkers category and is that a bad idea to start off with walkers?

    Thanks everyone :)

    Hi There

You can start off wherever you like to be honest.

As a male I am not sure about the WMM, but sometimes in large races they have "Pacers" who will run at a set pace to achieve a certain time. This helps you start off with folks who are aiming to complete in the same time as yourself. The Pacers usually will have a placard showing the time they are aiming for.

Usually the folks who are looking for good times start off near the front and the folks who are just running for the achievement, charity etc will be a little further back, with the just want to complete the course folks taking up the rear.

I usually like to start of a littler further back, as passing folks who have gone off too fast is a nice boost later in the race :D

There are no pacers in the WMM or any other 10k race I know of.
Also with 40,000+ entrants, (the vast majority of which are walkers and will take 1.5hr+ to finish the 10k) starting near the back would be suicide if you intend to jog even part of it.

I am unsure of the exact runnings of the WMM, but I know there are some pens depending on your projected finishing time. You'd probably be best to ask over in A/R/T as I know a lot of the ladies over there have done it before. there may even already be a thread in the evnts sub-forum.

Edit, here's the thread over on the sub forum.

If you want to walk/jog it you should check the 'Jogger' box probably. And it doesn't matter when your friend registers, the numbers don't determine where you start, lots of people just push forward so it doesn't matter... unless you enter as a runner or elite runner (as it was called last year, I think they changed the name though).

I would reccommend you get there quite early as trying to jog the race with thousands of walkers in front of you will be a nightmare!

    Hope that helps :)

I found the first 15 minutes a nightmare even though I started in the jogging section. Had to push my way through some pinkly dressed smokers??? But once you get on your way, the crowd tends to thin out, until you get to the over pass bridge, there's a little bottleneck but then it thins out again. Just to warn you.

The next year I did get myself timed so I was able to move forward. That was a couple of year ago though.
