So Prob just mention where in Canada you are and what kind of work you are looking for and maybe we can help each other out..

I was in Banff for the weekend.(Located in the Rockies about an hour from Calgary)
Nearly every shop and restaurant had a help wanted sign in the window.
Maybe not ideal for a lot of folks but might be worth getting out the directory and making a few calls
Stunning place with a postcard view around every corner.
Money may not be huge but would be an amazing place to live for a few months.
    I'll post some pics later

Hi, We are looking to immigrate to Canada for some time. My husband is looking for work as the Canadians call it Site Superintendant (Construction). Really want to secure job before moving us all out there, preferably for my husband and the hope is for him to go out there for 6 months and get settled in his job, accommodation etc and then I would follow out with the kids. He did get a very positive response from a big const. company in edmonton (met in person at work expo in dublin) and the HR person told him to contact her, but now the HR person not returning calls or emails - so not looking good - do you give up or become a pain (rang 4 times and left messages). I am currently completing my hons degree in Computer systems & networking - I believe the jobs in IT are particularly in programming - is this true? Any help or advice is really appreciated.:)

Well I done the move myself from Ireland to Toronto and I got a job with one of the major It companies within 3 weeks of me arriving here was quiet suppressed really. Ur husbands best bet is to go over to Canada and look for a job locally shows an employer he is more serious about moving over.

If anyone reading this wants a good starter job in IT in Toronto let me know and I'll refer u if u send me ur cv

Youd be lucky. I had 3 years experience with my comp sci degree.
Experience gets you in the door, interview gets you the job. A lot of companies will see no experience and bin the cv, unfortunately...

hard it can be difficult to get a job in Vancouver you would be better off heading to Calgary or Toronto to grab a construction job. The condo market in Toronto is still quite good so theres jobs to be got. Winter is a slow time for construction in Canada so be warned about that gets better from march on.

Not having degree is not a problem. It's work experience that counts.

Thank you, not having a degree appears to be my major stumbling block for Australia as I'm over 30 now. That's good news!

I know of this website myself for that kind of thing, but they do seem dead set on Canadians more than migrants:

    http://www.mediajobsearchcanada.com/job_browse.asp

Might want to check out the Generation Emigration section of the Irish Times aswell for job sites for Toronto, they had a write up some time ago. And networking through Twitter.

I'm looking for something in marketing myself. Probably head to Toronto, but for some reason I really like the look of Calgary. Seems like an unreal city. Can't see there being massive amount of professional type jobs there though, it does seem like an industry orientated city.

no idea man, not really my field. we've hired a few young Canadians who couldn't get much else, but it's not really worked. for what we do (selling advertising in a couple of particularly lucrative sectors) it's all about the little black book. no contacts no sales unfortunately, and its a long grind those relationships from the ground up

that said, marketing and PR should have plenty of vacancies based on the turnover i see in those sectors. the companies around the fashion district cover most of the entry level positions so far as i can see, so if you focus there i reckon you'll find something

high road communications are worth enquiring with
lots of interesting brands and lovely people

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I've researched this endlessly and it seems a bit thin on the ground for people with <3 years experience, mostly unpaid stuff. And the boutique agencies can be hard enough to get into in Ireland where I have experience and references from the most reputable people going, let alone somewhere where I am starting from scratch! But thanks again!

I don't. I wish I did. The thing is, like a lot of places, the entry level jobs aren't even advertised half the time. Networking and all that. I'm hoping Linkedin will work for me. I reckon it's going to be an uphill struggle though :(

    Hi Sinead,

I've had two interviews in Alberta and I've had two two offers and both of the offers are more rewarding wages wise than the good times at home.... v.nice.

make sure you have a kick ass portfolio as that is ALL that seems to matter and if you're trained up on Revit it's a bonus.. good luck

I don't really know what REVIT is but I know my friend got a positive LMO based off having experience with it. His employer just said that they can't get anyone with experience using it and that they need him for that reason mainly.

Yeah that would be great thanks...I used Revit in college and iv done the odd bit of work on the side with it when I can actually get work so iv got some experience with it but I wouldn't have years of experience behind me like yourself.
