I'm on Wayward Prince for the RSA.
I don't like backing at Cheltenham very much.

I am loving the look of my 40/1 Backstage for the National though ;)

I am going to have some of that myself, I have been busy too

Plenty to come yet. :D Waiting to see where Wayward Prince and Gagewell Flyer end up and how the ground is on the day.

I have my work cut out, myself and a couple of lads in work arranged a betting pool and 25 colleagues gave us €20 to try win some money for us. The pressure is on!!

Lads, am I losing my mind or does Megstar appeal to anyone else in the Supreme?

He is on my shortlist of 4 with Dunraven Storm, Cue Card and Sam Winner, the Moores seem to be finding a few decent looking winners over hurdles and I know he form is poor lately but 25/1 looks a big price to me.

That is why it is wrecking my head, he hasn't been good this year and I don't think he is a patch on Cue Card but there is something nagging at the back of my mind about him. I think I need a labotomy :(

I think I'm going to try stick with Ruby as much as possible.... should at least have 2/3 winners.

Already have a few trebles/4folds bets with Poquilen, Master Minded, Kauto, Big Bucks, Binocular etc....... needless to say if Ruby has a poor week, so will I

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Ruby is 6/4 to be top jock with PP if interested. I think he was odds on last year if I recall correctly.

I'd always have a five each way if I feel that way about a horse.(good reason I use a small stake too, usually)

Ruby won't be on Binocular and if I were you I would not invest too much on your selections either.

You should throw in the likes of Cue Card, Baby Run, Quevega & Imperial Commander in my opinion.

Not a fan of trebles and four folds going into Cheltenham, how often do they win?
They're less likely to win than if they were taking place on a normal's day racing I think, even if the odds are the same.

Someones gotta win the race. Your post makes no sense.

Yes it does. Favourites have a worse record at Cheltenham than anywhere else.

Why do you have a different stake per race? The swing is from 0.5 to 8.
Do you ever have a winner and think "fack, I should have put more on him"?

I back the same stake every time. It's something I've been doing for four years now. I never think I should have bet more, or if I lose, that I should have bet less.

I have a different stake because it reflects either my confidence in the chances of the horse winning the race or the value that the price and bet terms provide. I'm no mathematical genius, I go on instinct.

Pandorama @ 50/1 NRNB was a no brainer. Either he turned out to be good enough and gott conditions suitable enough for him to take his place in the field or he was withdrawn, no good enough or whatever. Money back on a bet like that mean you ought to be steaming in to that price. As for Albertas Run, he's the best horse in the race on his day, brilliant Cheltenham record and at double figure prices was the value of the festival since October.

Some bets deserve a bigger stake than others.

The .5 was on Burton Port in October @ 25s, not a time of the year to be lumping in. Massive risk and deserves a smaller stake. Its all about Risk Vs Reward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I backed Pride of Dulcote purely on a trading basis, I traded out 2pts but then he was killed, leaving me holding my dick.

Solwhit was just plain stupid. I should have known better than to take AP all in. Lesson learned hopefully.
