    Is it possible when you do a google search for a term for your own site that it appears on page one of your google search and nobody elses??

    Yes. With personalisation of search results, very much so.

    If you're using Firefox try the Google Global plugin.

    Although the safest way of getting de-personalised results is to install a browser that you only ever use for checking search results, and clear your cookies/history after every session.

    Though even at that you may get IP-based localised results. See also here and here
