    Hi,

I usually weigh myself weekly and am normally fairly consitent give or take a pound, however this week i seem to be having big fluctuations (with no reason, not time of month etc...)

On sunday in my parents house i was 10 st 13, (caused a bit of shock!) so i weighed myself again on monday on my own scales (10 st 11), tues (10 st 10), wed (10 st 9) and today back to 10 st 13??!

i am baffled by this, i weigh in the morning, in same clothes etc... can anyone shed some light on this for me... previous to this i was sitting comfortably at the 10 st 7/8 mark

Hydration possibly is your culprit here. Keep off the scales for a week, dont be on thw scales daily, its headwreck.com otherwise

Thanks for your reply dixie chick, i presumed it was something to do with water but 5 punds of water in a day?

It is very annoying as I dont know which figure to take as my weight... is it high due to high water retention or low due to dehydration... uggghhhh like you said head wreck!

Well you couldnt possibly be after gaiining 5lbs of fat in a day so take solace in that!!

And unfortunitely it would be even harder to gain 5 lbs of lean muscle in that time frame :(

Sure think about it - extreme low carb diets can cause huge weight loss in a week, I think I lost 7lbs one time. But its all water. So I'd say its dehydration or something similar alright.
I wouldn't let the scales worry you too much....and only weight yourself on the same scales, on the same floor...other scales may not be calibrated to the same degree as yours.

Weight fluctuates daily. It's to do with all sorts of things. Hormones for starters (and they don't only kick in during that special time), then the much mentioned hydration, exercise, what you have eaten (not in terms of calories, sheer weight is what I am refering to). I have also discovered that the surface that your scales stand on makes a difference (I get different values on my bathroom tile floor than on the carpet floor in my bedroom). I would not recommend you getting on the scales every day (as also previously mentioned), just pick one day of the week, weigh yourself at the same time and you should be grand. Weight really isn't everything, if you are worried about gaining weight, use a tape measure. Less scary as it doesn't show the little fluctuations and only the real weight gain/loss.

I used to weigh myself almost daily, and it is headwrecking because several times a day you will have weight fluctuations, based on water and salt intake, what you've just eaten etc.
Best thing, as already mentioned above, is just to weigh yourself weekly. Pick one day in the week, weigh yourself without clothes after going to the toilet for the most accurate reading.
Weight on the scales is very deceptive. When I go for a long run, I come home sometimes and will have lost two pounds, but of course this is not real weight, it's just water weight and will go back on as soon as I've had a pint of water and something to eat.I think your best guide to your weight is how your clothes are fitting- I think that is usually a reliable indicator of weight gain.
