    Le case in point:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8556852.stm

    for mobile users:
A conservative US state senator who has voted against gay rights measures during his 14 years in office has announced he is gay.
Republican Roy Ashburn came out during a radio interview in California, where he sits on the state legislature.
He has been on leave since his arrest last week on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Mr Ashburn said his votes reflected the way his constituents wanted him to vote, not his own "internal conflict".
"I am gay... those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long," the 55-year-old divorced father-of-four told KERN radio.
Mr Ashburn said he felt the need to address rumours that he had visited a gay nightclub before his arrest on suspicion of drinking and driving in Sacramento on 3 March.
Last year, Mr Ashburn opposed a bill to establish a day of recognition to honour murdered gay rights activist Harvey Milk.
He has also voted in the statehouse against efforts to expand anti-discrimination laws and recognise out-of-state gay marriages.
Mr Ashburn, who represents California's 18th district, said he does not plan to run for any public office after his term ends later this year.

Also, Ted Haggard, there's probably way more fine examples.

    Have fun!

he does. if you are actively anti gay it's because the lean buttocks of a grown man make you hard and you hate yourself for it... why else would you give a **** what others do in their own time?

That or I have a logical (without religious basis) arguement and instead of listening to truth it's alot easier to insult everyone on the otherside of the arguement by accusing them of being gay.

An old cowboy sat down at the bar and ordered a drink. As he sat sipping his drink, a young woman sat down next to him. She turned to the cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "Well, I've spent my whole life, breaking colts, working cows, going to rodeos, fixing fences, pulling calves, bailing hay, doctoring calves, cleaning my barn, fixing flats, working on tractors, and feeding my dogs, so I guess I am a cowboy."

She said, "I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about women. When I shower, I think about women. When I watch TV, I think about women. I even think about women when I eat. It seems that everything makes me think of women."

The two sat sipping in silence.

A little while later, a man sat down on the other side of the old cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "I always thought I was, but I just found out I'm a lesbian."

Got to agree with that man.

The logic is just fine boss. Someone who votes against corruption is probably corrupt? Someone who votes against abortion is probably an abortionist? Catch the drift now?

Don't get me wrong I like the irony of this particular case as much as the next person, but applying it across the board is a tad stupid.

So does that mean that if you're vehemently pro-gay rights then you're not gay?

Cause I have a few gay friends who are totally not gay then.

    What a bunch of liars.

    I wish I was gay.

You can get a shag whenever you like.

You can be as filthy as you like.

You can have a shag then play xbox 360 with your partner.

Unfortunately the smell of men makes me vomit and I love women.

Ridiculous argument. If your anti something, then you really are that something. Just because a few anti gays turn out to be gay doesn't make it a hard anf fast rule. I'm anti religeon, i'm not a secret prophet. In all honesty i'm not at all keen on this gay thing either, and no i'm not gay, though no doubt several people will now post that I am  .
Why is it whenever someone questions the whole gay thing, everyone then accuses them of being gay. Is this the only answer, is it the only argument?
I'm not anti gay as such, each to their own. But I dont really understand what makes someone gay (as in is it genetic etc). In all honesty it makes me uncomfortable to see it on the TV all the time. In my opinion it is something that is being forced down our necks 24/7 by the media. But no one dares question it or say anything against it or their branded homophobic and sacked. Maybe if it wasn't like this people would be more understanding and less offended by it all.
I'll sit back now and wait for the hale of abuse coming my way

No he is just a logical argument for birth control and possibly abortion, there are many straight examples of logical arguments for birth control and possibly abortion!

The anti-gay position is generally the most common way of explaining the concept of re-action formation as a psychological mechanism of defense. However, it is only the case where the person is not consciously aware of their gay attributes.

However, it raise an interesting question around people who hold a very strong position to some issues, it may be that unconsciously they are really attracted towards the position the consciously protest against. As in Shake spears "the lady does protest too much".

exactly. and the title says 'probably gay' not 'most definitely and unquestionably as gay as gay can be'

It's not really shoved down your throat 24/7. There are programs with gay characters, but how many programs contain heterosexual characters? Is that shoved down your throat too? How many programs focus on gay/lgbt issues versus programs which focus on the standard heterosexual lifestyle etc.

I think you notice things about gays more because it's different to your life exPerience, not that bumming is portrayed as the best thing. Or even portrayed excessively.

I saw a dude wig his arms around a bother dude on the bus. It stuck out to me, but I don't think that bus was ramming the gay lifestyle down my throat.

Typing this on an iPhone so sorry about misspellings but hopefully the meaning comes across. Another thing: count all the kisses or sex scenes on television. Now subtract all the straight ones. Are there a lot left?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭gargleblaster

i have long suspected that one reason why (male) homosexuality causes so many people such discomfort is because the indoctrination that homsexuality is bad and evil and wrong is centuries old, and most people aren't completely straight or completely gay. most people fall somewhere along a range of sexuality, most more to one side or the other to be sure, but often enough not all the way to one side or the other.

also it is strange how it is only women who are given license to experiment and give voice to their homosexual tendencies, however slight, without being mocked and ridiculed for it.

is anyone disgusted by lesibans being shoved down their throats 24/7?

What's the "gay thing"? it's simple really some people are just different from others and as you say, each to their own.

No straight man would be :D

In my opinion it is something that is being forced down our necks 24/7 by the media.

Generally because of a few reasons, one being if one soap introduces a gay character the rest follow suit... so then it appears as if they are everywhere on TV, but it's actually just a trend. New characters and the ensuing story lines revolving around them will be all the rage for a while and die down again until the next TV 'arms-race'.

Secondly the resort to stereotype that a lot of TV shows do. You can't be a gay male without being flouncy, bouncy, colourful and high-pitched. It just irritates regardless of the sexuality. So you change channel and blame the gheys. Modern Family does a brilliant satirical take on this as it happens. Hilarious.

Thirdly it's almost always a central issue regarding a gay character regardless of the type of TV programme it is their sexuality will be brought up again, and again, and again.

Thirdly I'd agree there is a media/cultural issue but it doesn't revolve solely around homosexuality rather sexuality itself. That's for another day.
