Not available through my iTunes yet, still only giving me 4.2.

Edit: I stand corrected, when I go to update it gives me 4.3 as an option.

Struggling to see much difference on the ipad apart from the side switch. Safari not running at double speed anyway :)

Update failed and now my iphone 3gs is in recovery mode. I'm trying to restore it but itunes is saying it can't contact the update service. For the time being my phone is a brick.

Home sharing has been expanded so you can stream from your Mac/PC to your iOS device.

Depends on your bundle - I know with O2 it specifically states whether tethering was permitted as a use of the data allowance. I would advise checking your plan.

Mmm...trying to stream a hd tv show from iTunes on my Mac to iPad and it won't play. I can see the file on the iPad and it try's to play but says "this movie cannot be played".

    Anyone else having issues?

I was getting error 1013 when upgrading and my phone was constantly in a recovery loop. Turned out to be my hosts file was blocking the gs.apple.com server because I ran tinyumbrella in the past!

    follow the steps here

It took a while but it eventually restored and it's working fine now.

Yeah the personal hotspot bluetooth and usb tethering is working which is odd because I thought that it was only for iphone 4, no wifi hotspot however.

I'm with O2 and my phone is unlocked.

    giving this a go...

so i now have 2 hosts files? hosts.old and hosts.umbrella?

Does this make any difference to ring tones or message tones for the 3GS?

Just tried it works really well- phone (iphone 4) on 3G and laptop connected to phone via wifi, dunno anything about charges or whether it counts as tethering or not- just assumed it was part of the regular data bundle which is all i have (2GB's per month)
    Anyone know anything about this?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭Splinter

unbricked :) and up to 4.3 now

thanks for that mate. hosts file was the reason

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭slinky2000

delete umbrella and comment out the lines with gs.apple.com with a # at the start of the line.

RESTART your computer and try to update your phone then,

or download the hosts fixer from here:

If you're on O2, using the wi-fi hotspot feature counts as data tethering and can be used against your 2GB data bundle. See this thread posted on the O2 forums http://community.o2online.ie/t5/iPhone/OS4-3-Personal-Hotspot/td-p/226644

    Not sure for other operators?

And THIS is why I always wait a few days after an Apple Update to even attempt it..

It's the same as tethering. So if your carrier charges for tethering, it will charge for this

Well got it playing eventually but it's not streaming in full. Stops every few minutes to buffer I presume. Not sure if it's an issue with home sharing our my LAN.

Have a Factory Unlocked iPhone 4 from the Apple Irish Store which is offically unlocked and have a Meteor Microsim. Just updated to iOS 4.3. Crashed on me had to restore.

But anyways the main reason why I looked forward to the update was the Personal Hotspot. But yet it's not in the settings. So whats the deal there? Early release and no Hotspot?
Anybody have any idea's? Tried turning Wifi off and disconnected the datasync cable. Nothing though. :(

Is there not supposed to be new multi-touch gestures for the iPad in 4.3? I can't find them in the options.

    ** Edit **

Just read they were removed from the final version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭DubDJ

Just found this post here on the Apple Support page:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574

Looks like All Networks in Ireland that officially sell iPhone 4 (i.e. everyone except Meteor) will support the Personal Hotspot.

So for those on O2, Three or Vodafone I suggest waiting till Friday maybe there not set up yet because of the early release date.

But for us Meteor users looks like we wont be getting the Personal Hotspot feature

See here for list of supporting carriers: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

I'm on three and personal hotspot is there and working for me. Nice having it in first menu of settings. If only bluetooth was there too I'd be happy.

BTW can someone clarify for me, personal hotspot will work with iPad wifi yea? I may be getting iPad 2 and would deffo get wifi only one if that's the case.

Have you put apn settings in the tethering settings? Hotspot uses them, so if they are not there, neither will hotspot be.

Yeah just figured it out. My stupidity there I forgot to enter the settings. It's working fine for me. No problems at all. Just hope Meteor doesn't have any hidden charges.

There's a reason we aren't childish enough to go pester ye on the Android forum - go back to your Gingerbread or Honeycomb, or Shortcrust.. or whatever it is.

And keep praying for the day a sufficient tablet running Android will come! ;)

With Android he could be on any damn OS, depends on what mood the provider/manufacturer are on.

What are you talking about Willis?

I quoted the name of an Android OS, and then made fun (yes... I kid sometimes) by quoting two popular other baking / confectionary goods in a similar vein to it.

    That's all.

ran tinyumberella & RecBoot & something else and then the error messages changed (cant remember what # errors they were) but after starting the update process just before midnight on sunday,it was 4.30am before i got the phone back to a useable state.

if ive gotten these 1013 messages before,am i likely to get them again with the offical 4.3 update??
is there any way of knowing pre-update if its going to act the bollox again for me?

Have you checked your hosts file? 1013 specifically means it can't get access to gs.apple.com

Put itinto your browser and click enter, what happens? you SHOULD get an apple 404 page. If you don't you need to clean/edit your hosts file because I bet tinyumbrella has blocked it
