From what i hear the National Half is coming back to Waterford.
After successfully hosting the even in 2008,its coming back...a bit like the Tall Ships :D
I presume it will be the usual half route that we have in December...but i dont know yet.

My Target race of the year.

That's a pity. It would have been interesting to have a Marathon in Waterford although I guess getting the numbers might be a problem.

is this an elite race for "irish half marathon champion", or just a cool name for a race anyone can take part in :)

Anyone can take part, AFAIK. There was a fairly small field last year though...

Excellent. Almost five weeks before my goal marathon. Bring it on..
I haven't raced a half marathon in almost 4 years.

Will this be in the city Sosa? Flat route?

A small 2m loop in around the city and then out to tramore and back to the RSC
Link from Waterford AC half on Jan 15th ( same route used for national half in 2008 and WAC half in 2009,2010/11 )

Hey krusty, if it the same route as waterford half i put a link in the race profiles section, flat apart from a bit of hill near the half way point off the main road.

Yeah thats a real shame, its an even bigger shame there still no marathons taking place in the south east (correct me if im wrong).

It's open to anyone. See the results from 2008 HERE

That will give you an idea of the kind of times posted.

They are likely to get 500+ for this one. Huge number of runners in the catchment area....Waterford / Cork

Same weekend as Dingle but I may be roped into this. Don't see the point in going all the way to Dingle for any less than 50 miles anyway. :pac:

Hmmm, I love the course, but it's three weeks before Berlin (my goal marathon for the year).
    Would that be wise?

You know that won't happen as soon as the adrenaline starts flowing :pac:

Tempted to give this a go myself. Could be a decent opportunity to have a go at 1:50. :D

Just bumping this one up as it's less than 2 weeks, hoping to run (I've entered), but carrying a strain.
Is the course confirmed as above?
Maybe the mods can amend the thread title to Saturday Sept 3rd?

Are there pacing groups this time? There was excellent pacing there at the race in January

doubt it its the national half organised by the AAI you pace yourself or pace off the people around you. The pacers they had at the previous one in Waterford was organised by the club themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 420 ✭✭KentuckyPete

Yeah I thought that but then DCM is a national championship too and there's no shortage of pacers there...

WAC wanted the Saturday all along,AAI were holding out for the usual Sunday, that was the delay in announcing the venue officially....handy also that it does not clash with the Hurling for people although that does not affect us folke down here in the not so Sunny South East

The AAI National Half-Marathon Chp has been on the same weekend (1st w/e in Sept) for quite a few years.
Are you confusing it with the Waterford AC Half-Marathon which is on Sat Dec 10th?

Just turn up with your bit of paper at registration in the RSC on the morning I'd say - that's the usual form. The club run an excellent setup for this race - I assume it will be the same for the championship
