Diet: Exercise ratio for weight loss

I suppose this is a very crude question, but what do people here think are the relative contribution of each of diet and exercise to weight loss? Eg, do people think that its 75% diet, 25% exercise or what? I saw a post somewhere that pointed out that the majority of calories consumed in a day get burned whether we exercise or not.. used for keeping a body alive.. so it seems to me that diet is much more important than exercise. any thoughts, if the question makes sense? thanks

Depending on how intense and how often you exercise, every person's ratio will be different.

The average is probably 80% diet, 20% exercise that contributes to weight loss but this can vary greatly.

It's not paticularly hard to work out your daily deficit and also work out how much came from reduce food and excercise (on top of daily activities).

But the real question is, why bother?
How would knowing if you own ratio is 70/30 or 72/25 affect you or your training in any way.

Weight loss is 100% diet. If you sat on your a$$ on the couch, but still consumed les calories than you expended, you would lose weight.

Looking good naked and being reasonably fit is 100% exercise.

Looking good naked and being reasonably fit, while maintaining a good ratio of fat to lean tissue is a combination of diet and exercise. With this goal, the ratio will depend on how little body fat you wish to carry around, how much lean mass you want to carry around and what you perceive as being fit & healthy (i.e. playing with the kids without getting out of breath or competing in an Ironman or the Sahara Marathon).

As each person will have a different definition of "Fitness" so each persons ratio of diet to exercise will differ. There is no one size fits all.

Diet and exercise play a different role in weight loss. Such as we should take a proper diet such as avoid oily food, junk foods. Take green salad in your meal. And exercise should be perform daily at least 2 hour.

There is nothing wrong with having daily routine however for occasional athlete
doing 2hour daily workouts is getting too close to be borderline overtrained
I'ts all about intensity not the time you spend in the gym
    in my opinion
1 - calories in calories out(food macros do count)
2-a combination of any workout that will get your heart rate pumping(hiit, metcon, and many many more)
    3 - rest

ps - obviously you could skip all above and just eat less and move more but
that way you could just remain skinny with flabby skin

diet is as important as exercise and of more importance when fat loss is the primary goal, end of story.

overall do not worry about the breakdown just list of what you are currently doing and your goals if you want concrete advice rather than speculation on diet/exercise effects
