Gaining weight with new fitness regime, normal?

After months, ok well a year, of pretty much doing nothing ive kickstarted the ole fitness again.
Gym is not an option as i cant afford it, so i do fitness dvds, Davina McCalls, which i find great.

While there is a good mix of cardio and resistance training within, im wondering if the squats/lunges/weights are what's causing me to gain weight since i started.

Im hoping its because im building muscle at a quicker rate than im losing the fat, is that feasible?
If so, will it level out soon?
Im about 3-4 weeks into it now, working out every other day, and while i do feel like my clothes are fitting better, the scale is moving up. Im hoping the fit of my clothes is not all in my head!
I havent made any changes to my diet yet, one step at a time ;) , but im definitely not eating anymore than usual.

    Any ideas people?

Im going to stick at it anyway, but should i concentrate on the aerobics sections more and ease off on the squats etc?

Ignore the scales. I'm pretty much the same weight now as I was a year ago, but my shape is different as I've dropped bodyfat. I wouldn't be sure it's muscle as you're only training a while, but it could be anything from the time of day you weigh yourself to bloating etc. I'm as bad, I still get pissed off if I see my weight go over a certain point, regardless of whether I've dropped bodyfat! But it's really not the best indication of weight loss. And if your clothes are fitting better etc., then I'd be more inclined to run with that!:)

Also, bear in mind that sometimes it can take a while for the weight to come off. It was described to me before as the 'whoosh' effect! Sometimes you can go weeks with nothing and then...whoosh!:)

Definitely don't ease up on the weight training.

    +1 on this.

Normally when I’m cutting fat for whatever reason it goes something like this: First 5 days sees a relatively big drop off (c. 2kg) as glyocogen stores and general bloat starts to drop, for the next 5-7 days there isn’t a huge movement, I may even look softer for a few days, but then on day 10-14 I start to look noticeably leaner and my weight starts to fall. And from that point once I stay relatively strict on my diet it’ll continue to come down.
