I'm thinking of getting some creatine in Holland & Barrett today.

Do they sell any high-quality stuff there that anyone would recommend?

id be wary of any supplement H&B sells.

Anywhere you would recommend to get some? Preferably an Irish based store and not online. Hopefully there will be one in the Drogheda area!

Only place ive bought stuff was nutrition connection on westmoreland street other than that it was online.

Online is usually cheaper and generally has better offers

Last Thursday week my wife and myself called into H&B in Blanch to get some CLA caps. The H&B website advertised a 2 for 1 offer. However, the shop staff didn't know about the web offer. I got the impression that there was a disonnect between online deals and shop deals. Eventually, I dug out the H&B site on a Blackberry and showed them the web page with the CLA offer. At that point, to be fair, they gave the 2 for 1 deal. But it was an unnecessary ordeal for any customer.

dont buy anything from H&B if you are looking for proper sports supplements got to universalnutrition.ie they have 2 shops one in Dun Laoghaire and Dundrum, cheap prices and the best stuff around.

Garreth is the man your looking to talk to, he is well sound, i order from them all the time never had a prob and free delivery too

Trec Nutrition do a great creatine cm3. You can get it from the vitamin shop or online. I would recommend creatine malate over mono-hydrate malate causes less water retention.

I disagree with that. I wouldn't buy the H & B branded supplements but they sell Maximuscle products and they are excellent.

I decided to go for the whey protein for gaining lean muscle and burning fat instead of creatine which I figured I don't need yet.

The results have been phenomenal in the two or three days I have been using them. Increases my performance with energy, concentration, power, strength in all areas like playing tennis, exercise, even playing music!

It was expensive but I got a large tub. Really satisfied with it!

Whey protein did all of that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,748 ✭✭✭rolexeagle1

flyswatter you have no clue about training if you are using Maximuscle supplements IMO!

Whey protein in no way burns fat also!

I know nutrition complements training very well, but it's a bit far to suggest that if he's eating maximuscle products, he's clueless.

Bwahaha! I was thinking "surely there's no such product" and I was right. For people not scientifically inclined, HPLC is known by chemists as high performance liquid chromatography - an instrumental procedure used to separate compounds in a mixture / solution to allow identification... It usually requires standards and reagents of 99.99% purity... I doubt that anything from H&B is quite that pure!

This exactly. HPLC is simply used to seperate substances based on a retention time made for each substance using a column. You can use it in fermentation for example if you want to seperate lactose and ethanol. Creatine is creatine, just get monohydrate and you'll get all the benefits of a fancy pants one which is 5x less bang for buck

I was referring to the fact that the High Performance Creatine the OP asked about contains all this other sh1te:

“Dextrose, HPLC Pure Creatine Monohydrate, Taurine, Disodium Phosphate, Trimagnesium Phosphate, Monopotassium Phosphate, Colour (Beet Juice Powder), Citric Acid, Maltodextrin, Starch, Flavouring, Antioxidant (Butylated Hydroxytoluene).”

Where as the HPLC High Potency Formula is just pure Mono Creatine, regardless of the “sales-pitch-science”.

I'm not saying it's doing all the work, when did I say that?, but it's surely helping. It's noticeable after just a few days. Can't wait to see the results after 4 weeks or so.

Hate to break it to you, but you didn't get all that from Whey Protein.

It may aid in weight loss in that you're having a shake instead of chicken + rice or something, but it does not burn fat.

I'm eating both of those foods and drinking the shake.

And chicken is full of protein.

fish oils are very important to put it in simple terms they send a message to your brain that tells it you have enough good fats and you can shed those love handles if you dont like fish oil flax seed oil or olive oil do a similar job both great in helping to speed up the metabolism I blend mine into a shake

Can you use the fish oil capsules? They're the only type I've used before.

Nah you're not pissing people off - I think it's just a little confusion over the product.

What Whey Protein do you have?

You see Whey Protein does not cut fat / give extra energy etc. It's just a protein supplement (albeit with a few extra things like amino acids thrown in).

Now the fact that you're conciously being more active & looking after your diet and so are enthusiastic may be contributing to the energy side of things, but really after 2-3 days you wouldn't notice much burning of fat, reduction of belly bloat maybe.

No he's not, he's equating 72 hours of whey protein consumption to increased musical performance among other things.

Look if he's supplementing his diet thats cool, I'm not saying dont. I like protein too, but its protein, not some sort of super viagra/testosterone/magic powder hybrid.

It's Maximuscle Lean Definition Promax Diet Whey Protein if I remember correctly.

I'll explain what's happened to me so far. There is still some fat on the stomach area. I'm a bit leaner though it seems and a good bit more flat chested above the belly especially.

While eating well, with lots of protein and some carbs along with the shake I am noticing some startling discoveries that I wouldn't have thought possible a few weeks ago.

I can endure much more physically with running, weights, push ups etc.

I was playing tennis after a tough 35 minute workout the other day and I had mountains of energy and explosive power. I couldn't stop moving where as before I would tend to often walk around the court casually. The other players did this often so it gave me a huge advantage over them. I have had always had decent technique with serving, rotation, follow through and the likes but it all came together almost miraculously it seemed. My serves were absolute thumpers. Got several aces and loads of unreturnable serves. Before I would have been lucky to get one in a single match and I played three that night. It was a nice surprise to say the least!

A weird effect has been performing music. When drumming before I would practice double stroke rolls the odd time. If anyone doesn't know, this is when you get the stick to bounce off the drum twice or more. This enables you to get much more speed into your playing. If you just kept doing drum rolls before without doubles you wouldn't be able to keep it up and would get very tense. Overnight, I can magically do these now and can play so much better. My foot for using the kick pedal is also way more powerful and precise. Before I could not play a lot of the music on my Ipod because it was beyond me in terms of technique and intensity. I feel I can give any song on it a competent go now.

My voice has really blossomed too strangely and I am more perceptive and aware of other instruments like guitar. It all makes sense now. All this stuff was in me obviously but it would never get going. My voice would crack up and get too thin before recently.

    I literally can't believe what's happening! :)
