Couldn't find a thread for this, and as I'm really looking forward to it I figure we should have one.
Buffy starSarah Michelle Gellar may make TV comeback in new CBS drama. Sarah Michelle Gellar may be set for a TV comeback this fall in a new CBS drama-thriller called “Ringer”, according to Limelife blog. Gellar has been almost completely absent from the small screen since the end of the long-running series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, in which she played the butt-kicking title character and lead role.
Gellar did appear in a 2009 HBO pilot called “The Wonderful Maladys”, but it never took off as a series. In “Ringer”, Gellar will play the role of a troubled young woman on the run from the mob, who masquerades as her dead wealthy twin. All would be well if not for the fact that her deceased sister also had a hit on her head. Though pilots often don’t get picked up, there is potential: the show is the brainchild of Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, the writer-producer team behind The CW’s successful hit “Supernatural”.

Ioan Gruffudd has signed on star in the upcoming CBS drama Ringer with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Deadline reports. Sarah will play Bridget, a troubled young woman on the run from the mob, who hides by pretending to be her rich twin sister, Siobhan, only to learn her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well.

Ioan, who was previously in Fantastic Four, takes on the role of “Siobhan’s wealthy, well-traveled, and cultured husband Andrew, who senses something different about his wife.” WILL YOU WATCH Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ioan Gruffudd in Ringer?

Really hoping this gets picked up.

Also, if possible could a Mod edit the topic title to take out the extra 'T' in the. Thanks!

What's the other reasons you loath 'Buffy'? And the only episode you liked was 'Once More With Feeling'?

With a statement like that, I'm guessing it's probably one of the only episodes you watched too!

After a weak first season, it became an absolutely cracking show.

Watch 'Hush' or 'The Body'... absolutely masterclasses in suspense, writing and direction.

Don't bother - we tried expounding the virtues of 'Supernatural' to no avail! Doubt we'll succeed with Buffy.

Life Unexpected star Kristoffer Polaha has been tapped for a co-starring role on the CBS/CBS Studios drama pilot Ringer. The project centers on troubled young woman Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her rich twin sister, Siobhan, until she learns that her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well. Polaha will play the husband of Siobnah's best friend Gemma (Tara Summers), an out-of-work novelist and father of 3-year-old twins who is secretly having an affair with Siobhan and, unaware that Bridget has taken over Siobhan's identity, is hurt and confused by her lukewarm behavior. The casting stems from the rich talent-holding deal Polaha, repped by WME and Mosaic, signed with CBS and CBS Studios in November. MORE

Nice find, I'm really liking the sounds of this. Here's hoping it's actually picked up for series. I saw some candid pictures of SMG today, breaks my heart to say it but she looks so old now. Come back 1999!

In shocking news, The Ringer is headed to The CW!

    http://www.deadline.com/2011/05/surprise-sarah-michelle-gellars-the-ringer-to-get-picked-up-by-cw/

I was JUST thinking this in my head before i read this comment:

"The premise is nearly identical to the ABC Family series “The Lying Game” – which is also premiering earlier in August.

    This should be interesting."

^ yup!....+ The Lying Game has basic elements of Pretty Little Liars.

Looks half interesting although I can probably already guess what will happen by the end of season 1,since the sister she is pretending to be had a hit out on her,the sister actually isn't dead and just faked her death because of the hit out on her, thereby putting a spanner in the works...:P

    Wouldn't be surprised!

    http://www.tvguide.com/News/Ringer-CW-Jaime-Murray-1035475.aspx

Jaime Murray is heading back to The CW on its new drama series Ringer.
Murray, who once starred in the network's short-lived Valentine, joins the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring series as Olivia, Andrew Martin's (Ioan Gruffudd) stunning business partner. She is the only woman in a boy's club and she relishes it.

Hmmm, I don't really like her, but what can you do?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

I love Jaime!...she was ace on Spartacus + i've actually seen all 8 eps. of Valentine [Autumn Reeser ftw!], she's been in lots of shows, i think she is pretty good.

Yeah, I liked her in Gods of the Arena, and Dexter. But she's always playing the slutty character.

Is there some hidden meaning I'm missing out on in that second poster?

Ringer is getting a huge amount of publicity, certainly the most buzzy of the new CW shows, Buffy effect?

Ringer | Jason Dorhing’s return to primetime TV struck quite a nerve for many of you, so at a Wednesday night event touting The CW’s new wares, we sought out some details on the high school teacher the Veronica Mars alum will be playing. Juliet (Suite Life‘s Zoey Deutch), the teenage stepdaughter of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Siobhan, “has been tossed around from school to school, so she hasn’t found anyone who’s believed in her and taken the time to inspire her,” Ringer EP Nicole Snyder shared. “That’s the character Jason plays — someone who sees thing in her and invests some time in her.” Hmm, we’ve seen Life Unexpected and Pretty Little Liars. Could this “quality time” lead somewhere taboo? Snyder responds, “We promise the audience this: Although it seems like we’re going down a familiar path, we are going to take it in a new direction.”

Nothing special. I wouldn't be watching if not for Baze & Buffy being in the cast.
It looked terribly cheap, and the green screening was just abysmal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,514 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Nothing too special but ill give it a few more episodes simply because of SMG
    Have to say though
the ending was pretty ****ing obvious from a long way off

Thought it was a bit of a bore to be honest..

.. the green-screen scenes on the boat were absolutely horrific!

My wife almost never comments on even pretty dodgy CGI in shows but even she noted how fake that scene looked :). Terribly done.

It was pretty predictable and slow and I really can't see where the premise can go long term even if it does do well, but I think it'll get axed sooner rather than later. Still, pilots are usually not that great these days so I'll give it another couple of episodes before I make my mind up.

I thought it was OK. TBH, if it wasn't SMG I was looking at, I'd probably have gotten bored :P. The big problem is that as SMG plays both sisters, it can be hard to keep track of what's going on when, or that was my impression anyway and it's just a pilot so maybe they'll improve on that. I just knew Siobhan survived alright. I would have been surprised had anything else been the case.

I can see this show being cancelled. I'm not certain the US audience would put up with the confusion between sisters on a regular basis unless it's more clearly defined. Anyone know how many episodes are ordered so far? I'm hoping it's just a slow start but it looks to be a one-trick pony show and I'm not convinced it'll last more than one season. The green screen stuff was gick! It wasn't far away from RTE in the 80's making Fortycoat's sweetshop fly!

Bad CGI is worse than NO CGI. If you can't afford to do it properly, find another way to shoot the scene. It will never, ever look good. All it will serve to do is distract the audience from the real meat of the scene and waste your money for other episodes.

You would think they would learn by now.

I was bored the whole time. The Lying Game has a similar premise and that was much more watchable right from the pilot. It will have to improve drastically to survive even on the CW. It wasn't done any favours with 90210 as the lead. Even the poorly performing Hellcats managed to crack 3m viewers for the pilot episode last autumn.

But Hellcats had a better lead in. For the first bit of programming for the CW in over three months Ringer was absolutely a self-starter.

That was not very good. My favourite part was when Bridget was looking out over the balcony in New York after confessing to her sponsor and she saw the brooding guy in the overcoat looking up at her and my husband called out; "It's Angel!"

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Just seen the pilot, i'd say it was just OK....nothing original or any OMG moments, very predictable. What i noted from the pilot was how it was shot, the slow zooms...it reminded me of a daytime soap, in fact the entire pilot remided me of a cheap direct-to-dvd movie, something SMG is rather akin to.

IMO the premise plays better as a tv movie on Lifetime, i'm not sure there is enough meat to fleash out a season, let alone the three being touted by the producers. It felt very rough, unfinished....the green screen boat stuff was some of the worst in recent memory, the music was totally out of place for the sequences they were used in.

You've got a respectable cast, the premise is hardly original, the ratings were good...but not what many were expecting, it only pulled a 1.2 adult demo whereas many predicted 1.6 and higher. It pulled 2.9m viewers, again less then predicted....i expect a large fall next week.

I think this will run a full season and be axed, i always thought and think SMG was overhyped, the ratings tell me despite buzz/hype/stars etc. that the CW has a target audience that watch the channel and Ringer is not a good fit.

They'll really have to step things up or this show might not even make it past it's initial 13 ep. order!
