Should be a fairly epic car if its anything like its predecessors.

4.4V8 twin turbo I think. Its about the same horse power as the Audi RS6.

Interesting comments on the clip, lots of people don't like the turbo route BMW have gone down. Still, some 560bhp isn't to be sniffed at!

More of the car and less of the computer voice please...

Im sick of hearing that. They should wait and see at least before the whingefest.
BMW have made plenty of turbos over the last 20years. They are not an exclusive NA manufacturer. Modern turbos combined with large CC engine = awesome, instant power with a super wide power band. And IMO I think the V8 will sound better than the V10 (or my V12).

The way people cry you'd think it was going to drive like an Evo (to say a large turbo on small engine).

The last 5 series was a train wreck on the eyes ... but that looks pretty ****in sweet!

I've never driven an M5 but based on the fact that everyone raves about each one of them, how much better can this one be compared to the last two predecessors?

You've obviously never read "The Secret". Apparently you just ask the 'universe' for this **** and it's delivered at some point.

I'm still waiting on my leggy blonde though

Of course you will own one, in 30 years time. All ya gotta do is wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭lomb

M5s are meant to be low profile subtle hypercars, wolfs in sheeps cloathing. I really like this new one. The old one while it looked fab was never what M5s were about.
The E34 was imho the best looking of the lot.

I wouldnt say that. The previous model is down to new VW golf money (20k?)and it has only recently ceased production, and the model before down to used mondeo money. No one outside enthusiasts wants old M5s, and there isnt too many of those out there. This one will be golf money in a few years also.

Remember todays brand new motor is tomorrows old newspaper.

I actually prefer the previous M5 I think. The new 5 is a bit bland....cant put my finger on it.

The turbo route is interesting, I've no great problem with it. Anyone who has a major objection - get yourself in a 335i and that might change your perception!

The days of horrendous turbo lag and digital feeling boost are over.

I read on some article that the new M5 would have a slushbox (i.e. auto not dual clutch or anything else) and no manual - anyone able to confirm that? That would worry me much more, it needs a proper semi-auto.

On the strength of that teaser it looks like it's going to be a beast. Wonder what the list price is going to be in our fair isle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭Mr.Boots

I wouldnt buy it cos it dosnt have fog lights that i can leave on alllll the time!!
    :D

I hope it dosnt have those horible horible horible daytime running lights that Audis have....The front of the Q7 looks like a christmas decoration.

    Vulgar and nasty.

    In the opinion of me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Well the window tint and black wheels won't stay which give it a tarted it up look at the moment, its gonna look pretty sweet when finally released i'd say.

im not whinging , but all ill say is, why didnt they just turbo the v10 , if they can get 560 horsies out of the v8 then surely a near on 700bhp v10 wouldnt be a bad idea

i think there was a shortlived awd 525ix in an e34 shell afaik , so shouldnt be beyond the realms of possibility that they could do it

No need in the M Cars as they already have "M" vehicles with AWD, the X5-m and X6-M.

The F01 7 now also has all wheel drive as an option I believe.

Perhaps the most worrying thing about the F10M M5 (that is not a misprint as the chassis code for the forthcoming M5 is F10M instead of F10) is that it features electric power steering.

That worries me far more than the adoption of turbocharging. The car will still have a bloody big engine under the bonnet and will have even more power than the old model, it is almost ridiculous at this stage how much power the performance saloons have - when are you ever going to use all 570 bhp this car reportedly has?

BMW's turbo six cylinder engine is meant to be so good you'd think it was a much bigger NA engine because there is no lag of any description, so I simply cannot see BMW making a mess of this - they will be hounded for it.

It is a pity that the old V10 has to go, not least because it is the last of the really large capacity high revving NA engines (and the second last NA M engine) and because the E60 M5 sounds unbelievable at high revs, but that's this CO2 thing for you and V8s sound pretty damm good too.

Loved every M5 until they did the E60.

I know it's only the concept and not the official thing yet, but this is a nice return to form looks-wise. It's just a pity they're not going to put a manual in it.

Back to bland*. I've never understood why so many BMW drivers took such a dislike to the E60, I think they're a great looking car; and although the E39 is a good car, only the Sports and M5s have any sort of style to them.

Must be a Marmite thing. I'd give my left nad for an E60 M5. EDIT: Particularly this one. Ostentatious, moi?!

    * Don't get me wrong, I like the F10. It's just not very exciting.

In my opinion, it missed the whole point of the M5. It was not meant to be some extravagant four door supercar like a Quatroporte, but an understated and discreetly powerful saloon car.

The interior also had all the warmth and character of a dental surgery:

Wood seems to be a thing of the past now even though I love it. Brushed alluminium seems to have taken over..
