I have a major problem with this news, but I'm not going to go into it here. (for anyone who cares, look through my old posts for a post about why I don't like Monarchies).

If she does come (which looks likely), her Government better pay for her security and any other costs.

I dont mind the queen coming might be good for tourism, but leave her retarded husband the duke where he is.
Although he is bound to say something monumentally insulting while he is here, most likely a joke about potatoes

I wonder if Paddy Power will start taking bets on what his biggest faux-pas will be. I agree that potato based insults would be the most likely.

I'm hoping it's the first step in our application to rejoin the UK. We've proved we can't look after ourselves, so it'll nice to have Lizzie in charge.

Just in time for the "Monarchy visiting USC tax" which is taxed @ 45 % of Monarchy income plus a wealth tax based on No of properies in his /her name plus an exit tax @ 45% too . All in all should be a nice little earner for us peasants !!

Just as well the shinners not in power , the rate might be higher than 45% !

At least Prince Philip will be there brighten up what would otherwise be a most fruitless and tedious affair.

Perhaps we should just fight Britain to try and join them again.

They might be able to sort this mess out better than our monkey politicians.

Talking about it on the radio at the moment and the huge opportunity to showcase Ireland and bring in extra tourists on the backdrop of the visit.

This worries me because of those many ignorant idiots who don't realise that we are a Republic and not part of the UK - this 'showcasing of Ireland' will do nothing to get rid of this perception.

Think they are purely talking about getting people coming over to take holidays, fill hotel beds, spend money here etc.. not just from the UK but elsewhere.

Thats not the way it should work. I take it you would be prepared to cover your own costs if you ever needed the assistance of British police, seeing as you are an Irish national in the UK :pac:

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If the visit instils a sense of worth or belonging in those that otherwise lack it then it can only be a good thing, even if they wrongly believe that it will have any effect whatsoever other than being a day for platitudes.

That's frightfully decent of you. Would that be like Mrs.Martin MacAleese can come and go as she likes in the UK? Why is it that announcements like this always bring out those with chips on their shoulders?

Has anyone got a high powered pump action water rifle capable of delivering a torrent of rancid diahorrhea about 50 to 100 yards over the head of a crowd at a podium?

Only asking. Sorry for the off-topic. Do carry on. Toodle pip.

Yeah, some Republic, have you seen the latest crime stats? Unbelieveable stuff.

I just hope that no nutter (s) spoil the efforts of the decent people of the Republic to extend a warm welcome to the Queen.

I've seen QEII plenty of times thanks. My daughter would probably want to go and have a gander at a real live Queen so if there are are any walkabouts I might get roped into going, but other than that, meh, the only amusement I will get out of this is the chest beating by the 800 years brigade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,077 ✭✭✭questionmark?

Who cares about her? We can show our "maturity" by inviting David Cameron or whoever is the British minister for trade came here to discuss better trade relations or new trade deals under the role of an official state visit or whatever is worth real money to the Irish economy. Only the elected British gov can make decisions not some unelected monarch. How much tourism can she really bring in and how short lived would it be!?

BTW before the chip on shoulder brigade comment on the above I neither love nor hate her I nothing her but if she's coming she better be worth the financial outlay same as anybody else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭RobitTV

Maybe she will offer us a Trade deal, And sell us one of their scrapped aircraft carriers, and a few harrier jets for free? :D
