weight loss hits brick wall!

    Hi all,

I'm not sure anyone can help, I suppose I just need somewhere to vent.

My son was born nearly two years ago, I went from just under 9st to just over 12st. Since he was born I have desperately been trying to lose the weight. I have somewhat succeeded and have gotten down to 10st 10lb.

Since last june I have been at this weight and just can't shift it. I have tried everything, I eat well (as much organic food as I can afford!) I excersise everyday for an hour, I don't drink and rarely eat chocolate sweets etc.

I have even been with my doc, she checked my thyroid which came back fine and even prescribed me diet pills, even they didn't work.

I am aware that I am not morbidly obese but am still overweight for my age and height and above anything no longer feel good about myself. I was never one for bellytops but would love to buy clothes without worrying about them clinging to every lump and bump. I am not aiming to be a size 0 by any means but I would like to get around the 9st mark.

I genuinely have tried everything that I know and am getting very upset that I can't get results.

Again i'm probably just using this as a way of ranting which I apologise for but i'm out of ideas!

If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, if not thank you for taking the time to read my crazy rant!!

    Hi Supermum!

First of all well done on the weight loss so far!

What kind of exercise are you doing? If it's walking maybe you could try doing a bit of running instead? Maybe add strength-training. It can be as simple as doing 15-20 minutes of squats, lunges, or step-ups twice or three times a week. By doing strength-training, you'll burn more calories, boost your metabolism, and build lean muscle mass all at the same time.

Also you need to find out how many calories you need. As you lose weight, your calorie needs change because it takes fewer calories to maintain your weight. So, if you want to keep losing weight, you have to gradually reduce your calorie intake. Use the sticky's in this forum to determine how many calories you actually need each day. Once you have that number, you need to create a deficit either by dieting or exercise or both.

Its a good idea to track your calorie intake in a food journal, some people consume more calories than they think. It's helpful to keep track of everything you eat and drink, even if you do it for just a few weeks.

Finally be patient and don't give up! You will get to your goal, you can do it! :D

A cool way to up your excercise is to do the couch to 5k programme. It will have you running 5 k in 9 weeks.

Increasing your water intake may also help. But other than that as PG has said, watch what you eat. Only eat when hungry and stop when full.
