Yeah i see it as frustration. No issue with me. He'll learn and it was a day we won. At least it shows he cares and is this annoyed. Pour this into the Westmeath game next week

They were poor, but we were better and it's not in isolation that they are poor due to our own efforts too.

It was beyond bad. A free one minute would not be a free for us the next, so many strange calls overall. That penalty call was shocking, seems he just didn't want to give a 2nd one.

Gerry is getting better. Better than the last 2 games, which yes that wouldn't be hard, but he's like this every year. He starts slow and warms up during the season. Think you're a bit harsh on Holla and Kiernan. Think they did quite well overall, Holla had some great turnovers and breaks especially

Indeed he was. Great to see. And with Clarke to come on and such, we have some strength for later part of the game from the bench. Crowe grew into the game too - poor start but for a young lad he settled in and made a couple of really good plays, tackling well and mopping up breaking ball

That referee has never done Cavan any favours. It's all about him. Come to think if it he's not respected by any Ulster counties.

Well he was behind me in the stand in a tracksuit yesterday. Had togged out and warmed up while wearing 27 vs Monaghan. Was word he had a small setback, so being in the stand would maybe point to that

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that we’re so low on the spending list?

Money talks and, at the end of the day, we spent half last year of what Armagh did.

The Bull McCabe will be fairly stuck into the Veo footage this week.

That's excellent news. Well done to the men in the Kingspan gillets. Nobody can accuse us of being reckless or getting above our station.

Apparently he’s driving a brand new 251-WH jeep that Westmeath provided him with into Cavan headquarters every morning.

I hope he is paying BIK on it. What's the chances of him falling out with some of our management team and players on Sunday i hope they wind him up and get him send off.

You would wonder what his day to day work is in Breffni he is hardly to stressed out anyway.

it’s a joke the whole thing ! He’s trying to plot the downfall of the county that he works for full time supposedly promoting the game in Cavan, it’s some circus.

We could be in trouble Sunday. Westmeath’s results, although three losses, haven’t been bad (have they lost a game by more than a point?) and he knows our team and systems inside out.

It’s a ridiculous situation but the whole county talking about it doesn’t seem to affect him in the slightest.

If there's one game that our lads should be fired up for, this is it. We had a score to settle with them in 2024 and went and won well, and I don't think their panel is as strong now as it was then. They've played well in all games so they've had their new manager bounce and he will have them fired up, but regardless of systems and analysis these two counties know each other very well and I really think that it will come down to the team that wants it more (bit of a cliche, but it could be, considering the weather forecast) a day for dogs of war.

If we are serious about winning the Tailteann Cup we should be taking care of Westmeath.

If we are serious about winning the Tailteann Cup we should be making sure we get relegated 🤣

The Div 2 table will take a firmer shape after this weekend.

    Monaghan (W) V Cork

    Westmeath (D) V Cavan (D)

    Louth (W) V Down

    Meath V Roscommon (W)

Our clash with Westmeath has all sorts of subplots but my gut says that we'll cancel each other out on the day. I hope not. For Louth to lose again would be ideal. Roscommon are the purest footballing side in Div 2 and deserve the jump back to Div 1. Big game for Monaghan this weekend also. But Cork might fancy the ambush.

is Cian Reilly out injured does anyone know? I thought he would be nailing down a corner back position now, good to see cormac OReilly back on the panal.

Team is out. Better look to this 15, but might expect a change or 2. And the bench looks decent too. Hopefully we get the result, tomorrow giving it rotten weather wise though

Is that the first time Barry Donnelly has made the 26? Good to see Ciaran Brady back in the half backs but you’d hope Gerry Smith would go back there too like he did against Louth. I still think with those two and Kiernan playing, we’re carrying too many lads out of form and there should be a change.

They’ve been warriors I know but I still feel the likes of Cian Mackey started games for far too long. Impact sub is an important role. Imagine bringing Gerry & Oisin on after 40 to 45 minutes to lift things for the last half hour.

So now we’re a national embarrassment—just read that article in The Irish Times about McCabe.

I’m sure the next county board meeting will be predictable: 40 club reps with nothing to say, Cahill with an answer for everything, talk of purchasing or developing some site that’ll take 10 years, the usual health and wellbeing buzzwords, and, of course, fundraising.

Under no circumstances will they discuss coaching, games development, or who in the county is responsible for the mess—and why everyone walked away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

But sure why don’t you contact your own club and go along on a proxy and start the topic at the meeting?

Easy to call others out on here when you’re behind an alias - it’s another thing to stand up in front of a full room including Gowna delegates. I’ve already said why IMO some delegates do not want to raise the issue. Not to mention our last county board chairman giving a closing address that you’re either on the bus with them or you aren’t.

Also, it’s good that Donohoe & Fitzpatrick are highlighting it now but the man is in the position 12 years now. Where were they previously? It very much appears to me that they got the go ahead from the CB to start putting some pressure on.

Its a funny old game ...some 2nd half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

McCabe will be like a bear himself over the sending off. How stupid of their midfielder to get a second yellow when they were, what, 12 ahead? That said, I thought the ref had been hard on us to then so we were due a bit of luck.

I thought Galligan left it very late to introduce Lovett and McEvoy.

Unfortunately results in Division 2 today haven’t gone our way in my opinion. I was hoping the Rossies would run away with it & Louth would get cut off at the bottom with Westmeath but it’s looking like another 2020 style season where 6 points could see you relegated.

Down next week is a huge game but we don’t have a good record against them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,218 ✭✭✭piplip87

Could have made that easier on ourselves in the first half. Like I get they were trying to hold onto the ball against the wind but it backfired.

Second half showed some brilliant attacking play and a lot of fight.

Next weekends game is huge, really need two wins from the 3 left to guarantee staying up as many of the games will be tight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭tazman06

We at least have Louth and now Westmeath on head up head. The Clare loss pre Covid killed us even with 6 points when we restarted later in 2020. Get something from Down and we're in good position.

Things very much looking up for us overall with how we've adjusted, managed games, and have genuine bench options now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭benjy1000

    What an unmerciful feeling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭ipitydafool

Yeah probably would of been better if Louth had lost today but even on 4 points Down were hardly gonna be safe so next weeks game for them and obviously us was still gonna be big. What today does show is that Meath and Monaghan are probably alot stronger than we thought after we lost to them. Glad we have Down and Cork at home even if our home record in league in recent times has been poor.
