I see on Macrumors that this is out now. Anyone get it yet?
Apple today seeded the golden master version of iOS 4.3 to developers, paving the way for a public release of the update on March 11th.

The update is available in versions for the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, while the iPad 2 will of course also ship with iOS 4.3 installed. The build number is 8F190.

SLOWLY downloading. Well, I say slowly, it's going at 200kB/s, but, I WANT IT NOW!

i was downloading at that speed too, mainly because my connection is **** and that's the speed it will max out on. just updating the phone now, all seems to be going swimingly *touches wood*.

Mine picked up speed, probably due to more seeders and such. Installing now.

have it installed now, not noticing much other than personal hotspot and location services now having a dedicated menu in settings rather than settings >> general

Not much else for iPhone, unless you have an Apple TV. Home Sharing is pretty sweet, going to test it out now...

Damn, my settings menu is full now with VPN, location services and personal hotspot on there.

I'm really liking having home sharing on my iPad, I can now get rid of all the music on my iPad and stream it instead.
Noticed Safari is faster too. Just wish they'd add tabs, but iOS 5 beta is only around the corner I reckon, so maybe then.

Will this add the mobile hot spot feature to the iphone, has anyone upgraded to it yet and tried it? I might give it a go this morning.

    iPhone 4 only.

Operators are handling it differently too - the same way they handle tethering. 3 allow you to use your bundled data. From what I gather, O2 & Vodafone charge per KB unless you buy a tethering bundle.

just installed 4.3 GM- no personal hotspot in sight.
can it possibly be that meteor is blocking it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

    I haven't installed 4.3 yet. I'll wait till it's released officially, I'm too lazy.

I gather that the hotspot is under Settings > General > Network

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭rivalius13

Hotspot is in settings. Not hidden, right there above notifications.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,362 ✭✭✭fox007

Just read there is a jail break out for 4.3 untheartered tho, hope there is an unlock too soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭fairchild

    no hotspot settings on meteor.
    checked everything
how do they figure it out by provider?

    3.

    thanks for the quick answer!
strong evidence it's controlled by the provider- bastards.

    hold the press:

only after you put in the tethering settings, personal hotspot appears
    what an exciting morning...

Anybody confirm is this works on O2? Can you not just tether over Bluetooth? Does is use more battery than wi-fi?

Works fine here on O2 billpay. Bluetooth should use less battery as it's lower power, but the data transfer rate will probably be slower.

So does the hotspot replace tethering? I'm on 3 and this will be great to have at no extra cost.

I thought personal hotspot was iPhone 4 only? But I have the option on my 3GS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,793 ✭✭✭John_Mc

I checked with o2 today and for billpay customers, tethering is included in your bundle as long as you don't exceed your data allowance.

It is controlled by the provider: In France, the option disappears on an SFR SIM or roaming with 3 on SFR. Apparently they want 20€ a month for the pleasure.

    Salopards.

    Nope, just not the 3G.

It does. Hopefully, we will now lose the silly term as well and we Europeans can go back to saying "using my phone as a modem".

Not really a "modem" per se. Modem is a term relating to analogue signals.

Then it's very definitely "using my phone as a modem", no?

Tethered jailbreak is out, I'm waiting until untethered next week.

For some reason. My personal hotspot has disappeared now?

    I have a 3gs on 02

Was the ability to chose how many times you could play the message alert tone always there?
Since I updated to 4.3 gm I kept getting 2 alert tones. Thought I was getting 2 messages. Turns out it was just 1 but beeping twice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭fairchild

After updating yesterday morning I was down to 40% last night- usually no less than 75%

last night I set up the phone with 4.3 GM again, but as a "new phone" without relying on the back up wich usually fixes battery drain.
    does not seem to help

    what experiences do you have?

That option was always there. If you don't check your message it will go again a few minutes later.

Is it just me or did they cut the Noir tone down? Like, the beginning of it is missing...

They chopped "calypso" in half too.

The "repeat one" playback bug still hasn't been fixed in 4.3. I don't use it that often but when I do it's very annoying.

I'm guessing they took the complaints about the tone lengths to heart...

But now it's not so much 'calypso' as 'chopstix'.

I swear my battery life is improved since the GM was applied.

Have they removed the auto-refresh when you switch between open pages in safari ? It's infuriating.

Personal Hotspot is very limited, grab MyWi from sinful repo thru cydia.

    Much better ;-)

It was one of the biggest user complaints about safari, to do with the lack of RAM

Do your browser tab refresh on your PC?? No of course not.

Is this 4.3 GM available to anyone who wants it or do the majority of people have to wait til the 11th?

Anyone, but you should update again on the 11th

If you install the GM it won't give you the update on the 11th, since the GM is just called 4.3, not 4.3GM, it sees the official release as the same version.

signed up as a developer but got this message when trying to select 4.3 GM Beta
Access to iOS SDK 4.3 beta

You must be enrolled in the iOS Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iOS SDK 4.3 beta.
Not enrolled in the iOS Developer Program?

    boo!!
