Just wondering which cereals are best for breakfast and also snacking on in the evenings. I like special k but have heard its quite high in sugar and also I don't want to get sick of eating it! I was considering all bran or weetabix? I hate porridge by the way- wish I didn't!

weetabix is good or something like shredded wheat. Eggs are very good for breakfast too!

I was under the impression that anything from a box by Kellogs, Nestle, etc is basically rubbish.

Kellogs Fruit and Fibre. The added coconut, raisins and hazelnuts give it a really nice taste, because the flakes on their own taste like cardboard!
I find it fills you up until lunchtime and isn't as high in sugar as some of the other cereals.

Kellogs fruit and fiber is about as healthy as eating a brillo pad and sugar! Look at the ingredients!

The worst of a bad bunch: Weetabix and shredded wheat

Even better: Oats, maybe unsweetened muesli

Yep. I thought about getting a box of start one time cause 'its for athletes' but it has 10g of sugar per 30g of cereal, whereas frosted shredded wheat only has 7g. Bought the frosted stuff. :p

Start tastes sooo good though. The boxes are way too small though.
I love porridge for breakfast in the morning with a bit of sugar! :)

Well its no wonder it takes good if it has even more sugar than a cereal that is litterly pebbledashed with sugar! lol

I thought that shredded wheat is very good for you? Obviously not if you're eating 10 bricks of it per day but say 2 in the morning with semi-skimmed milk or water? Yes I use water on cereal sometimes, deal with it!

Museli. The hi-8 one is lovely. Just be careful with portion sizes.

You can't go wrong with Muesli/Porridge/Weetabix, It's a great way to incorporate more fibre in your diet.

What if you absolutely hate muesli and porridge?

How are Bran Flakes? I love bran flakes but I've avoided cereals for so long now that I haven't had it in ages.

Edit: Actually, how would Bran Flakes be before a run only? I try and eat paleo mostly, so I usually have mostly proteins and veggies and lots of eggs but a quick snack like Bran Flakes maybe an hour before I go running (I'm doing couch to 5K) might be the perfect option?

    Thoughts?

I know, but the reason I thought they might be ok is because I'd only eat them before a run, so I'd use up all that glycogen on the run! Does that make sense or am I talking crazy talk? Isn't it called carb loading or something to that effect, when you're about to do a lot of cardio?

I know, It would have to be a good hour before the run. Maybe a banana would work better.

If you are doing couch to 5k, you don't need bran flakes or any 'loading' at all at all.

A normal sized banana has about 20-25gms sugar. Bran flakes is 22% sugar

I might have read that wrong but do you mean that a Banana has 20-25grams of sugar? That can't be right?

I eat Lizi's Granola, either the Organic one or the original one, few different ingredients in each, there's something nicer about the organic one and you only need such a small bowl. I'm not a big cereal fan, sometimes I'd eat weetabix, but it's usually the granola.

read that right alright. Say, an average peeled 100gm banana - about mid 20's gms sugar. Noi wonder they taste so damn nice! Plenty of energy from that for ya. Apples and oranges etc have about half that, and most berries will be about 4-6gms

I'm addicted to Lifeforces Irish Museli with a handful of cornflakes on top.
Anyone every try that Museli? It alright? Im not really into porridge.
I find it very hand to watch my portion size though. Probably best to have a banana with it and scale back to serving.
