Kolo Toure suspended for failing a drugs test!!

    http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/2011/March/Club-statement-kolo

Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an ‘A-sample’ provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance.

As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non-first team matches pending the outcome of the legal process.

There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage.

Didn't realize you could take performance impairing drugs.

Must have been recreational, because they certainly weren't performance enhancing.

If Rio got 8 months for missing a test he later passed, I presume Kolo Touré can expect a minimum of 9/10 months?

Whatever he took he'd wanna get his money back cause he's still shîte

And this needed a whole fresh thread?

There's about 100 threads comparing players, I think if they exist this pretty big story can get its own thread!

I wonder what he tested positive for in the test? Interesting if it is not a recreational drug.

I think 6 months is the average. Rio got banned for 8 because if he got a lesser ban it would encourage people to miss them rather than fail them.

Completely depends on what the "specified substance" is. Simon Mensing was suspended for about a month until his hearing and was released to play after that. I guestimate Toure did a Paddy Kenny. Probably get 6-9 months.

Toure,Rio and Mutu. Now that would be a good night out.:)

It could end up being another Cannavaro type failed drug test.

I still find it mind boggling how players manage to get done for drug taking. I know they arent generally the brightest members on the gene pool but come on......

The thing that always gets me is why? They have the potential to become mega rich over a short period of time and retire young yet do something so stupid

I'm sure Toure has a few million quid in the bank tbh...

"A specified drug"? Can't be too judgemental when we have no idea what it was!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭dedon

I suspect it could be clenbuterol. Same thing contador tested postive for. The drug is widespread in sport at the moment to help reduce fat and build lean muscle.

The World Anti-Doping Agency define a specified substance as one that is "more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,239 ✭✭✭KittyeeTrix

Who knows what he took but I'm sure he will get the deserved punishment and get on with it (hopefully not the drug taking)......
I'm sure he isn't the only player in the EPL doing the same and he certainly won't be the last!
    Not defending him btw:)

Ya never know though, depending on the outcome and the contract he signed with City he could lose the lot.

The player in scotland who was banned for a month until his hearing took a dietary suplement. He had asked two seperate retailers if it was safe, both said it was. He even went to the club medical staff who said it was ok before he started taking it. The truth is, no matter how careful you are you can still get done.

Exactly. The fact it's a specified substance means he wasn't doping. If he was doping it would be a "banned" substance. He'll be fine.

Is he on the drug testing panel?

It's the same substance as Mensing I hear which could mean a very short ban or no ban at all ? !!

Jaysus if he gets a long sentence City might buy a good defender. Not good news at all.

The drug is in a dietary supplement apparently

shock horror - its a dietary supplement -

its a sad indictment of the world we live in , that if a professional footballer was actually found to be smoking weed, and tested positive , it would be headline news for a week -

get a grip media, footballers are human too , despite what they earn - there is much more important issues to report on

    Robbed from another forum.

I thought Manchester was blue, but I got high,
I thought we could win the league too, but I was high,
and now I'm suspended, and I know why,
Cas I was high, cas I was high, cas I was high.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭dedon

Surely people don't believe the supplement excuse??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭Columbia

Adrian Mutu was ordered to pay Chelsea 17 million euro after his failed drugs test, to make up for his wasted transfer fee. The thing has gone to court at least 6 or 7 times and Chelsea have won every hearing other than one non-decision. I wonder if Toure is sacked (unlikely), whether City will pursue something similar.

Do you honestly believe that you could find a court that believes he is probably one of the 5 highest paid players in the world ? Case would be struck out tbh. :D

Ah i thought it was Yaya...

The drug is in a dietary supplement apparently

"dietary supplement" is an anagram of "Tipsy Arm put Needle" and "Strap I put My Needle"

or play the ones they've got.

Boateng could be a revelation if given the chance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

'specified substance' means ephedrine etc and various others contained in cold cures etc.

Didn't do Paddy Kenny any good though.

    Breaking News:

Man City player Kolo Toure has just failed a drugs test.

He is reported to have tested positive for 'Charlie Sheen'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,922 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

This probably explains the late change to our lineup against Villa (Toure was named but Lescott came in at the last minute).

We'll have to wait and see what the B sample says but it's still a bit concerning.

I really don't him been a coke head, presumably its performance enhancing drugs. Interested to see the full story revealed here.

As for City, even though he was dodgy at times he's a great leader and will be missed in the run in for sure.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭dedon

It will be clenbuterol or ephidrine.

He will either argue steak or supplement use. Which we all know is just an excuse used by known drug cheats. Not saying he is a cheat but saying the supplement and steak excuse has been used before and proven false.
