Speakers with oscillator

    Hey guys Im acting on a physicistsadvice here, Im doing research in zoology and I need an amp that has an oscillator in it in order to produce a sound at the right frequency. Can anyone shed any light on what hes talking about!

    Hey there! What you're talking about is a very basic synthesiser.

    You could do some really basic Pure Data programming to do that. I guess you're talking about generating a sine tone. A PD patch to define the frequency of a sine tone and then make the sound could be programmed in about 30 seconds...

    If you decide that's the way to go, I could program the patch and send it on, you'd just need to download the program and run it and sort out your own amplification equipment.

    PD is a free graphical data flow programming environment that's especially good at making sound. You can get it from http://puredata.info/ It's not very user-friendly at first, but once you get the basics down it starts to make sense. You can do very complicated, amazing, beautiful things with it, but your problem is an extremely simple one with PD as your tool.
