Now before I say anything I might as well point out that I've always been bashed for being far too much of an optimist, I refuse to admit defeat even in a game of chess where I only have a pawn and a king left and my opponent has almost everything except pawns.

I did, however, actually win the aforementioned game of chess, even amidst cries of "just knock over your king, it's over Paddy!!!"

Seriously though. Why DO so many Boardsies seem to be utterly bitter about life? Seems like every day there are threads chruned out which are bashing people who are happy, b*tching about various sections of society, shooting down the few threads which get posted with a positive premise, etc.

Why is this? It seems that for one website with an extremely broad and general range of topics up for discussion (this site has more individual boards than any other I know apart from game sites which have a board for every video game)there are a disproportionate amount of moaners and begrudgers.

This is underlined in my mind by the fact that when Gift Grub had a politicians' Dragon Den and Joan Burton was trying to sell them her new website, "Moan.ie", I immediately imagined the home page of Boards but with a different logo! :D

Bear in mind I'm not actually trying to insult or bash those begrudgers, I'm simply wondering if there's a common reason for so many voices of gloom here or it's just a random chance?

Look if people are on here it means they are filling their time either waiting for porn to download or for a porn scene to 'buffer' on a well known porn site....it's a stressful time for all concerned and it's inevitable people will be a bit 'short' as all they want to do is empty their bag or rasher the flange of themselves

I'll accept that the various *tube sites are appallingly slow but I don't think that can fully explain the sheer density of begrudgery on this forum >_>

Mostly I put it down to the same syndrome which causes road rage..

People feel secure and protected behind the keyboard or wheel of the car and so throw sh*t out and act all aggressive.

In real life - most people are pussys, windy fvckers when confronted to their face.

I really don't get the whole anti-Irish thing going on here.. Mention anything about the Irish language, pride in your country or our historical figures. Our armies unblemished peace keeping reputation, our singers and song writers, sport men & women etc - and it would appear as though just being Irish means your a target for **** to offload on.

I have to say I find this remark even MORE depressing - are you saying that the cold attitude many on Boards have to people is actually the secret attitude of most people out there, just concealed under fake personalities?

Now THAT is a sobering thought.

On this forum lately, it's more like "Life gave us lemons, and although we're thirsty, we'd rather throw the lemons at eachother as violently as possible."

I'm not having a go at anyone, that's why I stressed I was asking out of curiosity. I'm just wondering WHY there's so much bitterness, I'm not criticizing the bitter!

Yeah I've noticed that as well as its cousin, the "you must hate Ireland" posters. For example, say I say that I don't find Father Ted funny (I actually do but just as an example), somebody will post "if yanks made it you'd love it. You're just anti-Irish".

My creed: Never tell of your misfortunes to people. Half of them don't care and the other half are glad you had it.

Yeah, I wouldn't subscribe to some of the above myself, but what the fuk is the self-loathing for? "We're begrudgers", "We're dumb", "We're lazy", "We're complacent".
Speak for yourselves there dudes... Or do something to change it instead of complying with the stereotypes you cling to so lovingly.

Most of this bitterness on boards has had to do with the recent outgoing Government.

There seems to be an almost equal amount of bitterness being levelled against our new government before it has even taken office, so I'm not sure how much sense this one makes...

They should be in thirds: A third of them don't care, a third of them are glad you had it, and a third try to outdo you on your tale of woe. The latter are the really infuriating bastards.:(

There is a fair traunche of bitter fcukers coming in to us after the last run out son.

    Make no mistake about that.

Bitter and twisted attitudes and a propensity to believe that the situation we are in can be got out of painlessly.

No it can't lads, not our fault but burning will do no good at all.

    At all at all.

Luck, and extreme stupidity on his part.
I kept evading him with my king, and he didn't notice that my pawn was 3 squares away from the bottom of the board. I moved it occasionally, to which he continued to say "Why are you even bothering", until finally I got to the end and queened it.

Because of where my king, his king, and my pawn were, my new queen put him in instant check, and he couldn't move out of it without putting himself in check from my king.

He subsequently did a Father Jack - esque sweep of the board with the back of his hand and stormed off in pure rage. :D

It was just funny the way the guy didn't notice a passed pawn, three squares from queening. Also how he didn't get his pieces around the back of hatrickpatricks pawn chain and systematically dismantle it.

It was just fascinating that with such an overwhelming force superiority that he couldn't both maintain the initiative and force a mate in fairly short order.

But complacency is our enemy always. What do you think Hank?

^ I just use it as an analogy now anytime someone tries to convince me (or someone else) to give up or concede defeat before actually being defeated in reality.

To this day I have absolutely never accepted defeat until it has actually happened, regardless of how close it may be. and you'd be AMAZED how often that turns out to be the right decision.

It's felt a lot of Irish people believe that about themselves right?
That's cringey, of course, but many Irish are guilty of the exact opposite too.
