The Piggy beard thread

"How much can you know yourself if you've never been in a fight? I don't wanna die with out any scars."

So said Tyler Turden to eh... himself in the 1996 novel Fight Club. Being more of a lover than a fighter Pighead has changed thew quote slightly to:
"How much can you know yourself if you've never grown a beard? You don't want to die without first having grown a beard"

Have been growing it for about two weeks now and to be honest it's not the greatest beard Pighead has ever seen in his life. Actually it's not even in the top 100. It's got a fair few flecks of grey hairs around the chin area and it's a little bit patchy around the jawline. No ginger bits though which is always good.

It looks a bit like this at the moment.
    http://beardsforbabies.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/michael-humeniuk-week-3.jpg

Hoping that it will eventually look like this:
    http://www.dreadcentral.com/img/news/dec09/beard6.jpg

But have a horrible feeling it's gonna look like this:
    http://beardporn.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/prince_william_beard_photos_1000x0550x400-475x345.jpg

Am a bit worried that it may be the wrong time of year to grow a beard. With the sunshine returning, Pighead is in danger of getting heat rash on his face and when he shaves off the beard he'll find he has a two tone face; tanned all over apart from a nasty white patch where the beard once lay. Gonna stick with it for another few weeks though.

If nothing else the beard has definitely made Pighead look more intelligent and he has noticed people have been looking at him with greater respect and awe since the face has got furry. Like when people look at men with goatees and immediately label them cnuts, except the opposite.

So how many here have grown a beard before? Pighead's not gonna exclude the women in this question and would actually hazard a guess that the amount of hairy women is actually quite high on this site compared to bulletin boards in other countries. (Hungarian boards women would probably poll quite highly too)

A beard is something that marks one out as a cultured individual, one whose mind is on higher things, one who is too lazy to shave every day.

    So yes, I have one.

    Beards are fantastic.

What an interesting thread OP. Unforunately though, I don't actually give a f**k.

Boards has a 'Facial Hair & Hats' forum. Use it.

Tend to only shave about every 5 days or so, wouldn't ever grow a proper beard tho, think they look manky on most people.

Had a nice shave this morning tho!

I've tried many times to grow a beard but only ever lasted a week before the itchiness got too much.

Plus for some reason my facial hair has a ginger tint

Beards are catch-traps for all sorts of nasties.

When I comb out my lower beard, it's horrible. :(

Beards are awfully itchy, saying that I did have one for about 3 months until I got sick of it and shaved. I also have a patch underneath my chin where when I was younger I burnt on a lightbulb. So no hair grows

That's what you get for sticking a lightbulb under your face to make you look spooky while telling a ghost story.

Ive grown one but it ended up being a bit patchy so I got rid. While every other hair on my body is dark in colour, the hair on my face comes out with a noticeable ginger tint, which is obviously unacceptable.

Ah yes the migration of the beards is a beautiful sight to behold.

    I am a man and I have a beard.
I have tried it, but it seems one of my ancestors dallied with a ginger. Rather then doing the decent thing and jumping off a cliff immediately, less they sully the genepool with more gingevitus, instead they bred. On the plus side, it allowed me to be born, though sadly my beard does tend to be of the ginger persuasion, along with some grey hair now.
I have tried it as my hair is too crap to grow to any length, so my only avenue of hair expressionism is through the hair on my face. I think it looks ok, but does get itchy. The real fun though is when you shave it off in different ways, to see what kind of mustache/beard combo you can get away with.
Last time i did this, shaved it all off except for the tash.
    Funniest....Tash....Ever

I looked like a convicted pedophile from the 70s

Very very very dodgy. I of course uploaded it to facebook for my family and friends to laugh at, before immediately shaving it off.
Perhaps an adolph hitler one next, or has that been ruined?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,385 ✭✭✭✭D'Agger

Keep a decent bit of stubble going but wouldn't really call it a beard - keep it trimmed

Mainly because I'm too lazy to shave normally

Find men with beards extremely attractive. have always had a preference for a bearded man over a clean shaven one. not a crazy long beard but like james brolin in hotel. sexy as hell.

I grew a beard about 2 months ago. Not only that, but the beard gave me power and confidence I had only dreamt about. I told a heavily pregnant woman to f*ck off on Christmas Eve because she tried to skip in front of me in the queue in Smyths. And she did.

Beards are awesome, and I have one.

Beards also improve your musical taste by 23%, help you get into Whelan's and provide comfort on long train journeys by giving you something that's acceptable to stroke in public.

    I am a man and I have a beard.
I let my stubble grow, before losing my nerve and shaving after about 5-6 days.

I know if I could just let it go on, my courage would grow stronger and stronger, but I just can't seem to find it in me to go to the required lengths.

Perhaps we could see a beard support group emerge from this thread.

Just point at the beard and say, "Hey bub, I've got a beard here."

The bouncer should then bow reverentially and let you in.

Biko, earlier on you locked this thread because as you said, it belonged in the Facial Hair forum. And now you've reopened it. Why? Is it because it was a thread started be one of the AH regulars who has 5,000+ posts and it seems to be one rule for them and a different rule for us "newbies"(as someone put it earlier)?

Or maybe the rules of AH's has changed and I didnt notice. Maybe I could started a thread about Wayne Rooney elbowing James McCarthy or one about Ashley Cole shooting a work experience Student at the Chelsea training ground.

I am a lazy git when it comes to shaving. Once a week does the job. But I haven't had a clean shaven face in about 10yrs. I've always had some class of a beard or goatee.
Having not much hair left up top, I try and balance it out a bit :D

It's to do with the vikings IIRC, so even if you don't have a ginger head on ya, your beard is likely to be! I have a tint of ginger in mine, but beards are cool enough that it doesn't matter. You will rarely find an Irish man with a jet black beard.
