    Hey,

There has been so far little or no talk about the new upcoming Motorstorm title.. I just seen today that it is due out on the 18th March I think... What you guys think it will be like? I have 90euro to spend in GAME so I may just pick it up.. I didnt think it was due out for another few months at least.. I must also pick up the previous 2 games just so I have them all..

Going to check at some videos and will make my decision when the game is out.. But this seems like its going to be an awesome game.. Where is the hype?.. Was Motorstorm Pacific Rift a failure or what?.. The first Motorstorm was led to be an awesome game but I rarely played it due to Resistance..

It looks awesome! Haven't been interested in any MS since the original, but after watching some of the dev diaries i'm really considering picking it up.

Same here the first one was great, mostly played online but that was short lived due to Resistance. Never bothered to get the last one

Why would you do that? I can understand wanting previous games in a franchise in some genres but it's rare that a new racing game would motivate me to buy its 'old tech' prequels.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy 'rubber-banding' (in the first 2 games, at least).

I played a preview of this last year and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Very like Split Second, in that there always seems to be things happening around you. The maps a re a bit confusing at times and sometimes your way is obscured my debris or dust, andyou're left with no idea where to go. But like all race games, once you learn the track it's easy enough to navigate.

I found the first Motorstorm game extremely hard. I never really got that far into it but I did enjoy it. I have the second one but haven't touched it. I got it very cheap last year but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyways Bubs already has the full game.. I forget his username here though.. I think I shall pick this up, would seriously love a 3D TV for it though :(

It's not really that much like the first two, to be honest. And it's not the greatest racing game in the world, but it is fun, especially when playing with a load of mates. It wouldn't be like GT or Test Drive Unlimited, where you invest a lot of time progressing through it.

I loved the first one, it was my 1st ps3 game.

I always thought fans considered the first very good and the second pretty poor ! Never played much of either so cant compare.

always thought the first one was very undefined. it was big, it was dull and it was messy, but it set the groundwork for a much improved second

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,604 ✭✭✭Kev_ps3

so whats so bad about the new one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Can finally talk about it, found it ok. I didnt play the others so ive no real point of reference. Enjoyed some of it but got fairly frustrated with all the crashing, you would hit a tiny kerb and your car would fall apart. Also found that it was quicker to crash and respawn than to slam on the breaks and try not to crash on corners and its not very balanced when a lorry is racing a bike for example both are fairly close speed wise but of course all the trucks just smash through everything.

Anyway full review is here gave it 78% enjoyable for fans but racing purists will just get annoyed.

    Nice one Grumpy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The gaming liberty did give it 9/10 and they seemed to be fans of the first two, thinks its very much a case of if you liked 1 & 2 you will like this if you didnt like 1&2 then you ll feel the same about this one.

Motorstorm Live event will be streaming live from 6:30pm on the Playstation Blog this evening. Will post a link when one becomes available. ;)

Just playing the demo now and I remember what I use to love about the second one. The music! Rallying down the tracks with some Drum & Bass or Dubstep song in the background really adds to it. Maybe it's just me though :D

Played the demo and thought it just felt like a slightly better looking but much less interactive version of Split/Second. The track changes were confusing, the camera occasionally directing you towards what looked like openings but actually weren't. Looks nice, but in taking away the tactical side of Split/Second - actually getting to control the explosions - it feels like a weak copy of a better game.

Plus, you crash/explode way too easily!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Hmm, just played the demo and i have to say i really really like it. The repsawning makes it way too easy though, i could tell myself that i won't use it, i'll do an accidental u-turn and get back on track myself, but i know i wouldn't... SELECT!! :pac:

Anyone looking forward to this coming out on friday could be in with a wait as Sony is saying a decision to delay the game is "under discussion". They have already postponed it in Japan and NZ for obvious reasons. Serious bad luck for Sony and the developers to come out with a game about earthquakes as this time.

  • Company Representative Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭Gamesnash.ie: Pat

    Hey guys,

Unfortunately the game has indeed been delayed. New release date of April 1st.

    Statement from Sony:

"We are shocked and saddened to see the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and our thoughts are with all those affected, including our colleagues within the Sony family, living and working throughout Japan," Sony said.

"We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in MotorStorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation.
"Although the game itself is already in distribution, we are ceasing any further shipments and removing as much of the marketing materials as possible."

I personally think they are right to delay it.

Yep all the game companies are showing a bit of moral backbone in the face of the disaster. A respectful delay is welcome for sure.

Copies were already delivered to my store, they're not in the chart though, must have been a last minute decision

Delayed, really? There's copies in my store

    (Quoted before your ninja edit)

It seems that Tesco have been less than effective in implementing the delayed release. Most game stores in the country have the stock sitting there and are respecting the reasons behind the delay. If Tesco continue to sell it though who knows ....

The game isn't on sale in my store either

It has been reported elsewhere on the board that Tesco are selling the game. I understood your initial post as saying they were on sale in your store too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,024 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

Nope, maybe other stores are selling it I don't know. I edited it because the way I had worded it before made it seem that they were on sale.

HMV cork have it for sale

Tesco Nutgrove also have it for sale.

Really? Sony sent out a message to all stores telling them that they were holding off on the release and that they would inform all of a new release date. As of yesterday, there still wasn't a date announced.

I mentioned it to a staff member when I was down there.

Can confirm that offical date is 31st March but the fact that Tesco are openly selling it may mean everyone will now.

I'm fairly certain it was a mistake in this one store. I'd imagine the staff member took it off the shelf asap, but I didnt stay around to find out.

Played it today in the office. The 4 player split screen left a bit to be desired in my opinon. A bit of a let down.

Maybe the actual one player is good though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,241 ✭✭✭Vic Vinegar

I'm not a fan of this game. There's no weight to the vehicles anymore, it's really easy to crash and get destroyed. I agree with Johnny Ultimate, it seems they tried to make it like Split/Second (with the route changers) but the result isn't as good. I wouldn't go as far as saying they've ruined the game but it's a fairly large step back in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,579 ✭✭✭Webmonkey

Just back from playing the 4 player again with collegues.

    It's incredibly frustrating to play

    - The smallest object stops the car still.
    - The physics are absolutely awful. (The car spins for no reason)
    - Sometimes it's impossible to know where to go. You have no choice but to commit suicide or hit a wall.
    - The respawning is bad. Sometimes you have to press X and sometimes you have to press select. You shouldn't have to press anything as it's quite obvious you will want to press to respawn.
    - The actual menu system of the game is not intuitive one bit. Took us for ever to get a game started.

Anyways back to Blur for us again I think, that is a fantastic game.

4 Player split screen makes it too small to see whats coming i think.
And i agree with the point about Split Second, the game is hard enough to memorize some of the tracks without changing it occasionally...

Yeah but we have a huge TV. I'm sure the one player would be much better though.
