we all know how critical it is to eat within 30 minutes of sustained exercise, after a few hours in the saddle my favourite meal is 2 scrambled eggs, can of tuna, 2 slices of wholemeal brown toast and a large mug of tea, pure bliss!

Omelette, milk and 2 Terry's chocolate oranges....

...and the love of a fine woman.

Woops, sorry I got confused between "post ride meal" and a "post meal ride"!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭boost creep

@ DirkVoodoo, i deliberately tried to avoid the confusion by putting in the word cycle instead of ride, i knew we'd be treading a fine line between the two before long!!

Dirk makes no such distinction, to him each is just as good a workout as the other. I can toss the bike in the garage afterwards though.

If at home, tin of beans and some brown bread mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Other favoured meals are microwave chicken burger with maxwell house coffee (has to be crap instant stuff). Yes, I really don't concentrate on diet at all.

You guys really are dragging this thread down ....

    Bringing it back up again

I need to get my oats post ride ....

... so it's porridge for me

After a long one that gets you back in time for lunch/dinner it's hard to beat a bowl of pasta with some fried diced chorizo and onion served with a bit of gruyere cheese and a dash of nutmeg. Can guarantee this can be done in 15 minutes for the hungy hungy cyclist.

After a good 160km/200km it's just gotta be a medium rare steak, veg and spuds... lovely tasty, but you'll be lucky to get it into you inside 30 minutes of getting off the bike

    Just after training - nescafe

After the spin on Saturday I ate a packet of soft jellies from the natural confectionery company, then I went to dinner where I had a fillet of steak, 4 chorizo sausages, potatoes in some weird sauce, prawns with salad, plate of piella, meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce and my favourite, deep fried calamari in tempura batter, topped of with a bottle of Red and a lovely cup of black coffee.

On a less fancy day, I will lay out all the food I have but no that i would not get round to eating and just start wolfing it down. After a long cycle I can eat like a monster for 2/3 days, need alot less insulin and generally feel fantastic, to a layman it would appear that cycling anything above 200km temporarily cures Diabetes :pac:

and if this isn't enough, fancy take aways galore or a phone call to the missus :P
This is clearly untrue but I enjoy it while it lasts

Post cycle fag is very satisfying but not half as satisfying as being as fit as when you were 21.

If I'm being proper - tuna sangers on brown, fruit juice or a smoothie (prepared before I go) and a handful of digestive biscuits.

If I'm being indulgent - I get home, order a pepperoni pizza and hit the shower, by the time I get out they're knocking on the door with it. Wash it down with a couple of beers.

Today when I came in from a fast commute the wifey-person had a load of spuds and stew waiting for me - that'll put hair on your mickey for you:D:D:D

Up to three hours - a smoked ham sandwich with some brie de meaux ob some gorgeously sweet fresh loaf from the Truffle Pig in Kenmare, or a chunky soup in the winter.

Sportif (5-8) hours. Med rare striploin, thick cut home made oven chips, bearnaise sauce, green salad with a tart vinegar dressing.

    Coke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭g0g

    CHOCOLATE!!!!

Any type, I'm not too fussy! Toblerone, Terry's Chocolate Orange, Maribou (spelling!?), Yorkie or whatever else I can find at home! And Lucozade Original with it! :)

I'm all about poached eggs on wholemeal toast with just a sprinkling of whole black pepper. Savage stuff altogether. When you throw in the cup o' tea it just takes it to another level!

Sandwiches of some sort. Ham or tuna usually washed down with a strong coffee. That would've been followed by a fag but not any more.:)

Call yourselves cyclists?!?!?!? Based on the post-ride meals we're all a bunch of wusses.......

For post-ride meal inspiration Mick Murphy should be point of reference for everyone :):)

Bet he didn't have much time for tuna, parmesan and balsamic!

I've read, in a few places now, that low fat chocolate milk is good as part of post-ride meal.

Beer for me. Contains water to beat dehydration, carbs to replenish and vitamin B.

    Cake.

Or probably a homemade, 3-egg cheese & tomato omelette with chips.

If it's Sunday, I warn the mother-in-law to stick five more potatoes into the roasting pan.

I've read this in various places myself.

The problem is that I cannot find it anywhere. Checked Tescos in Clare Hall & Maynooth, Dunnes in both Donaghmede & Maynooth and Superquinn in Lucan.

They all have Avonmore Chocolate milk but it's all full fat. Low fat would be much better.

Does anyone have any idea where to get it though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭thehangtenguy

any longer than 4 hours in the saddle and it has to be a medium rare sirloin steak with pepper sauce and spuds, washed down with a pint of milk.

Milk is pretty much low fat anyway, especially if your cycling anyway :p

I love a thai green curry with beef and green veg. Coconut milk is apparantly good for recovery ;)

Ah, potatoes- boiled or fryed :) with refried beans, grated cheese, garlic and 2 fried eggs :D washed down with a 4shot mug of lavazza coffee, maybe a bottle of beer/glass of red wine as well. not quite like the 90's... and any Faith No More album on in the background.

is it time for a boards social?
maybe a meal, I know some dodgy tapas place :)
and goldsprints to keep the food and drink down :)

Frist thing in the door I like cereal with lots of milk, preferrably crunchy nut cornflakes.

Or I call into the pizza place across the road on the way home. Place order. Shower. Change. Collect Pizza.

3 or more hours ride: A huge round steak with rice and vegetables.
Anything below that whatever is available. Once came home and had nothing prepared, so I ate 10 slices of ham, bread with strawberry marmalade while bacon rashers and eggs where cooking in a pan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,032 ✭✭✭McTigs

I have become a huge fan of soya chocoalte milk (by all accounts it's got everything you need and in the correct amounts and it tastes delicious), so a pint of that and a banana as soon as i walk in the door.

After the shower, sandwichs made from whatever is in the fridge.

About two hours later i get an awful craving for a pint of quality ale.

Can ye explain to me the coffee after craic a few of ye are at? i love coffee but i couldn't look at it after a spin
