The New Canteen Needs A Name

Just got this email.

Dear All

We are inviting all students and staff to help us come up with a name for the new restaurant on the north campus – due to open on April 26th 2011.

The restaurant will have a seating capacity for approximately 500 people over two floors and includes a large paved plaza between the sports hall and the common room which will incorporate a band stand.

If you have a great idea for the name of the restaurant, we’d love to hear it - please email ciara.farrelly@nuim.ie by Tue March 1st 2011.

Seen a few pictures of the canteen, it looks really pretty! There's a video tour of it on the Student Observer as well.

Perhaps name it after Professor Tom Kelly, he was head of the Philosophy department up until he died tragically in 2008.

He had been teaching in Maynooth for a very long time, was a really familiar face around campus and was very accessible. He was also a fantastic and very engaging lecturer.

At this point I'm just hoping it's not called the phoenix or any fugly variation thereof. The Mos Eisley Cantina FTW!!!
