Why do women wear make up and perfume?

Cos they're ugly and they smell.

Because they're worth it...or for some other ad-inspired reason.

The eyes have it, and eyeshadow and mascara simply make girls look better, in my opinion.

some girls looks great without make-up, other girls need make-up to be pretty and then others use it as a mask to hide their uglyness.

'Often' my arse. Yes, there's some girls who happen to have flawless skin, gorgeous long, dark eyelashes, perfect bone structure and so on naturally, but it's certainly not 'often.'

It also doesn't help that an awful lot of men have a habit of not being able to tell the difference between 'natural-looking makeup' and 'no makeup.' :pac:

Anyway, I wear makeup because I like it, it's fun and expressive and is the same as an article of clothing or hairstyle or anything else to alter your appearance, really. I also really, really enjoy the ritual of it all. And it doesn't bother me if people see me without it.

I'll never understand the stigma of makeup vs. any other form of appearance alteration. It's all the same.

There is a thin line between no makeup and too much makeup IMO.

Its good that there are fine male specimens like us here to point out the necessity of make-up for women, isnt it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭Pinky99

Some girls are naturally pretty which is lucky for them but other girls like myself feel that they have to wear make up to make ourselves feel that bit better, I love would to go out and be natural but I feel that I need to wear foundation to feel that bit better, make up costs a fortune so maybe one day Ill experiment and wear NO make up :D

    It builds up confidence
    Express themselves
    To feel beautiful
    Hide scars or blemishes

    They're lots of reasons why!

First of all yes, that girl from the soaps looks gorgeous with no makeup on, but im sure she has a facialist on speed dial and fancy skincare products.
Makeup to me is kinda like jewellery, it makes you look like you put effort in and sometimes it makes you more confident. I like how it can enhance my best features, and cover up my least favourite.

Why do some big fat women wear make-up and not go for the cheaper paper-bag on the head alternative?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭rorrissey

Personally, I think it's fun. :) But I absolutely hate girls who think that they can't leave the house without plastering on the orange foundation... Make up for me is a hobby, but for others it's almost like a chore. :/

Girl in pic is wearing make-up, its just the subtle kind thats supposed to make you look better.

IMO if it looking like your wearing a ton of makeup, your doing it wrong.

If you check the link it says "no make up for heat image" so I very much doubt that she is wearing any.

Personally I wear very little normally (lipstick) and have not been wearing any for months as I am pregnant and do not like wearing any makeup then. I think that it can make you look a bit different but I do not like it myself.

Most days I'll wear pale foundation, because I've naturally VERY uneven skin, and the make-up evens everything out and makes me appear human and not ill :P. I will admit to feeling something akin to contempt whenever I see overdone girls strutting around with orangey-brown muck caked on their faces and fake eyelashes like a camel. How can anyone think that's a good look to have??

Yes, the purpose of foundation is to even out a persons complexion, not to change the colour of their face. If they look orange, it's because they've gone for a shade 4 times too dark, refusing to accept that they are just not naturally tanned.

i enjoy using it, make up makes you feel more confident and more attractive....

no such thing as an ugly woman only a lazy one!

In my opinion, the girl in the OP would look even better with a bit of eye make-up, but she does still look great without make-up as she is naturally very pretty and has flawless skin.

I wear make-up because I look better with it than without it. Just eye make-up though, not foundation or lipstick.

If any guys think it's vacuous of a woman to wear make-up, guarantee they'd go for the girl wearing subtle, natural-looking make-up versus her bare-faced identical twin - vast majority of the time anyway.

    Subtlety is key.

I think the problem is most men don't know the difference between subtle make-up and no make-up. They make their judgments that "Women should never wear it, they look so much better without make-up on!" based on women they've seen with the natural looking stuff, applied tastefully.

i'm wondering how many women in the many threads dedicated solely to women's looks (the sexiest woman in ireland, or whether you would with the woman in question, etc.) are not wearing any makeup.

There are some women who seem to rely on the slap as a crutch a little too much. If they were unable to access it, they'd fall to pieces and that isn't too healthy.

i wouldn't wear make up everyday, but for nights out or important events i like to wear a subtle amount,

it improves my features imo and at the very least stops that pale shine you get when photos using the flash are taken...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,806 ✭✭✭✭KeithM89_old

I usually only put on some light foundation and a bright lipstick when im heading out...

    ....shit, wrong account :/:o

Most of the week I'll wear no, or very little make-up. If I'm going out anywhere whether it's a night out, or a lunch with friends I'll throw on a little bit of make-up. But I think that the more natural the make-up, the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,554 ✭✭✭✭alwaysadub

I don't wear make up on a day to day basis, only when i'm going on a night out or for special occassions.
Looks better when you are all done up wearing a bit of subtle make up than wearing none personally speaking,

The Katy Perry pic is all the evidence or reasoming behind why women wear make up.

I feel sick for any woman who feels she shouldn't go outside without make up. that's your face, you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

I have no problem with make up - I wear it when I am not working, but god help me if I get to the stage where I am uncomfortable without it.
