Womens Mini Marathon, would I be fit enough?

Hey everyone, need a little bit of advice.

I have only started exercising since November. I have gradually built up the distance I walk, and I can walk 3.5k quite comfortably, have also done 4k, but not that much.

I want to do the Womens Mini Marathon (10K) and was wondering do you think at 15 stone 11.5lbs (have lost 33.5lbs since November and hoping to be about 14 stone by June), that I would be able to get fit enough in time for June to do it?

Just go for it. Honestly a 10k walk is only about 6 miles, which is a two hour walk at a moderate speed. You could do that now if you had to, and on the day, there'll be craic and energy and lots of motivation.

Just make sure you have shoes and shorts that won't chafe.

Was wondering the same thing myself, I'm 11 stone 13, I'm losing weight and I'm training, doing a fair bit of jogging. It doesn't seem too unrealistic to aim to run 10K by June does it?

You want to walk it or run it monife? I've done it the last 4 year's and woudn't consider myself that fit. had no training done for it. If you are currently doing a bit you will be fine. Every age, make, shape does it- you certainly wont be last to finish!!! It's a great fun day out. Really inspiring and a little emotional to see 40,000+ Irish women out there doing their thing-mostly for a good causes. It's even better if you do it with somebody you know who has a similar pace. I would highly recommend this. With all the chat and the people watching you dont feel the kilometres passing by and there is a band/live music at every 1km mark which gives you another boost - especially around the 7/8/9 km mark. Keep up the good work!!!

Go for it! My 60 year old mother who only walks the dog around the block every couple of days does it every year. If you're worried, get yourself a friend and walk it and have a good chat!
Well done on that weight loss!!!

It's not unrealistic at all. What distance are you jogging now?

You could easily do it by following something like this:

Hi everyone. Thanks for the advice.

The original plan was to walk it as I have never jogged in my life. But next week (once I break my new runners in, they're killing me at the moment) I am going to start the couch to 5k programme, so hopefully I will be able to jog half, walk half. :)

Monife, best of luck & you will definitely be able for it.

I started in the gym 5 weeks ago and have been doing a bit of jogging on the threadmill. The first 3 weeks or so were torture, 20 seconds of jogging felt like 10 minutes, but it's gotten easier and on Friday I started couch to 5 k. I'm aiming at doing the Cork women's mini marathon in September & I'm hoping to jog/run the whole lot of it. It's great to have a goal in mind because it will keep you focused.

You'll do great, plently of time, and it is all pretty much flat. Heck I saw a couple of times people smoking while walking the mini marathon . Also you might just get the bug like I did for awhile after I did the mini marathon.
