Looking for info from anybody who started there as a complete beginner to any form of exercise!

I'm a total beginner, very unfit at the moment, looking for something to get me into shape.

I've heard good things about this place, but having looked around it looks fairly daunting for a complete beginner and I'm worried it might be all too much for me at the start and put me off completely.

Also, anyone have any info on fee structures or how it works there? I know there's a free intro session but what's the story after that? I'm no millionaire!

    Thanks :)

From the sounds of it, you'd be well suited to this. I gather you want to "get fit" but haven't exactly decided what that means? Then I'd recommend crossfit, at least temporarily.

They accomodate beginners very well up there, so no need to be intimidated. The instructors are very good. They push you but without being assholes, and they seem to know their stuff. I think the group system is very good (esp for beginners).

I did it for 2 months, but it wasn't geared exactly towards what I wanted (getting big and strong), so I quit and am doing a different programme on my own.

Re: price. It's not the cheapest thing out there, but it's good value. It's probably slightly more expensive than your average Gym but less than a personal trainer. And lots of people pay €700/ year for a Gym and never use it. You can cancel Crossfit membership easily, and you're more likely to get something out of it I think.

All in all, I'd recommend. But if you were to give more details about your goals and stats, that would be helpful.

One of the main points of Crossfit is that you can do it anywhere with minimal equipment.

Here is a random geezer in Blanch rocking out Cindy.

If you can't afford to attend any of the affiliates, there is plenty you can do on your own.

Look you can even you a random child for thrusters :D

I'm f, 20's, very unfit! My main goal is to lose weight. Well more specifically to drop fat. I don't really care what the scales tell me, I do care about the width of my waistband though! So I'd like to get fitter, smaller and more toned essentially.

Find it hard to stay motivated but from what I've read people seem to get results from Crossfit and keep focused. I have tried various gyms before but I inevitably end up aimlessly jogging on the treadmill and watching the clock until I've spent enough time on it to justify going home. I've never felt any benefits from this obviously!

I suppose I should book an intro and see how that goes. I don't want to be stuck to the chair when he tells me the prices though! I don't mind paying if it's working for me as I feel it's an investment in myself, is there a contract or what? Maybe these are all questions for the intro session!!

I can't remember exactly how much it costs. It depends on how many sessions you sign up to per week. So, you can sign up to do 1, 2 or 3 sessions per week, or possibly more.

I did 2 sessions per week. I think it was about €100 per month for 2 sessions a week.

I think maybe you sign a contract or something, but you aren't tied to it.

I think they said when I was leaving that technically I'm supposed to give them more notice but I said I'm not going to pay for another month if I'm not going to use it and they were grand about it.

From your last post, I'd say motivation is a problem for you. In that case, crossfit would be good for you. At the end of the day, you'll have to motivate yourself. But, the structure of crossfit and the coaches help you to motivate yourself.

I trained there for a few months as well, it's a great place to train and they cater really well for people of all levels. Call in to see the guys they're really friendly and will no doubt have something for you!

    Hi FruttiTutti
I went along to crossfit bring a friend day. One of my friends trains there. They were a really friendly bunch. I am not fit but I was able to set my own pace. Some people were using heavy weights I went for something lighter.

It is not an intimidating atmosphere and I would like to train there but unfortunately the location does not suit me currently.
