Kiefer Sutherland is clocking back in to primetime.
The 24 star has closed a deal to star in the Fox drama pilot Touch, from Heroes creator Tim Kring. The project centers on a father (Sutherland) who discovers that his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen.
Because of Sutherland’s duties on Broadway, where he currently stars in a revival of Jason Miller’s That Championship Season, Touch will start production in late May-early June after he fulfills his commitment to the play.
Kring wrote the project, his first pilot script since Heroes. Charles McDougall, who has helmed the pilots for Desperate Housewives, The Good Wife and, most recently, The Chicago Code, is in talks to direct.

Sounds like a pretty done to death premise - they should call it "The Dead Zone with a Kid" or "That's So Raven if it were a Drama"...

How and ever, the trigger words Kiefer Sutherland, Tim Kring and Fox grab enough of my attention to make me want to know more...

    Touché...

Although I do have more faith in Fox than NBC or ABC.

    http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/fox-picks-up-kiefer-sutherlandtim-kring-drama-touch.html

FOX is officially back in bed with Kiefer Sutherland.
After discussing the strong likelihood that his pilot, "Touch," would be go to series after being filmed this summer at the network's TCA presentation, FOX confirms the "24" star's drama will debut in in Spring 2012.
Created and written by "Heroes" mastermind Tim Kring, "Touch" stars Sutherland as a widower and single father, Martin, who can't connect with his mute son, Jake -- a son he discovers has the "ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events."
Instead of communicating verbally, Jake has been trying to convey things using numbers, so to better understand his son, Martin starts working with a professor (Danny Glover) to "decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to the cast of characters whose lives they affect."
To say that the plot sounds a bit confusing would be an understatement, but given the network's obvious excitement about the project, we'll curb our skepticism.
Season 1 will consist of 13 episodes.

Sounds like a cross between Heroes, Flashforward and Lost.

I fear for the longevity of this series already. :pac:

Tim Kring?....didn't he ruin Heroes? ...that aside, i'm not a Keifer fan and basically the premise dosen't interest me much.

Besides Knowing it's strikes me as a touch [pun intended] Millenium as well....pass.

2 good seasons is even pushing it..

.. I'd say 1 season, or more specifically 22 episodes as first season finale was beyond awful!

That first season finale was one of the most jaw droppingly fast quality plummets I've ever seen. I was all itchy and wriggly with excitement as I loaded it up to play and by the end I was just sitting there feeling WTF!

And then they followed it up with Peter in Oireland.:(:(

an ok start to a show i reluctantly watched TBH, tim k-ring really likes making a story look very big but as we seen with heroes it went downhill fast, even by the end of season 1 the story got very streched out,

it has me interested, ill tune in for another few but wont get my hopes up,

I can't seem to see where to watch it? My usual suspects have a copy of one tree hill uploaded instead when i try to watch for some reason  Have been looking forward to this.

Just finished watching the first ep. Nice enough little thing, very cute the way it all came together in the end. I can see it getting boring by episode 4 though.

Basically its Heroes 2.0 - was waiting for someone to say "Save the Cheerleader, save the World"...

It'll be an epic show until Kiefer Sutherland gets transported to a crate in Cork and then its downhill from there...

Watched it. Enjoyed it. Not sure how they can make a whole show about it though.
Unless that kids autism is on a weekly cycle.

It seems similar to Person of Interest, with the kid playing the part of the computer.

Just watched it and enjoyed it for the most part..

.. the only problem is like 'Flash Forward', it's tough to see how this premise will play out (new stories each week, or long story-arcs. Would prefer the latter!).

Every time Kiefer got angry and shouty, you couldn't help but think someone's gonna get a bullet to the knee or a few broken limbs.

The first episode was certainly more enjoyable than anything post-Season 1 of 'Heroes'.

And who the sweet feck is hiring Simon "I'll Advertise Everything!" Delaney?!

Fair play to him though. The only thing he's done that's been entertaining before this has been losing 15 grand on the Irish Who Wants to be a Millionaire :D

i thought it was funny though that gregory itzin (AKA Charles Logan) was in it and gave jack martin a low blow:D:D

i assunme going by heroes anyway that k-ring will have all the stories intersecting at some stage,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Just watching this week's episode of 'Mad Dogs' on Sky 1 and they've a shot advertising that it's starting March 2012 (at the start and end of each of the 3 ad breaks during the show).. so am guessing they'll be airing it very close to the US.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭angelll

Finally got to watch it :D Really enjoyed it,thought the stories were v well connected. Interesting to see how it develops though, will there be a new pattern every week etc.

I think you'll find it was Titus Welliver, not Gregory Itzin. :o

I dunno.... Is there a reason to keep the singer/restaurant equipment sales guy/junior suicide bomber/lotto winner in it? I think all their stories have played out and they're not needed any more. I think the recurring characters will be Sutherland's, the kid's, Danny Glover's and the child services woman's. It'll be really interesting to see what they do with episode 2....

    Was there an implication that
the wife may have gotten low enough on the north tower to survive 9/11 and could turn up later?

Anyway, liked this a lot more that I expected to, so I'll be sticking around to see what happens next. :)

Just watching the pilot now. At least their description of Ireland is now better than their description from Heroes, where it looked like California. Touch's Dublin? Wet. Yup, that's about right.

yeah i still cringe at that security guard up at the dock in cork with his badge, and the thick nortern accents on all the people living way down south,

Tried the pilot there, pretty good, I thought. I'm still a little taken aback at the suggestion of institutionalisation. Also, how the child services rep did a 180 from going by the book to being a believer didn't come off too well, but I guess you've got to keep the plot moving forward. Not so keen on how the young lad in Iraq was talked down, though he seems likeable. Would like to see more of Simon Delaney, if he can get something regular Stateside. I'm hoping the numbers mean something creatively (not a la Lost), not just what was suggested in the teaser or later on.

    The March airdate is stupid.

Was it actually aired or leaked? I remember something similar happened with Fringe at the very beginning, where the pilot was "leaked" months before the show actually premiered.

What the hell is with Simon Delaney in this.

Touch is starting on Sky 1 next Tuesday (20/3 8PM). Looks a bit like a cross between Knowing and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, I suppose I'll give it a go.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Was waiting for this. Why can't people be pleased when someone succeeds in something they have a passion for. I didn't notice his accent any different from how he normally speaks.

I thought it was a bit different, but given that the man has been in the UK/US for the last few years I suppose it's no wonder that it's changed slightly.

Interested to see episode 2, reminds me a lot of Flashforward, which probably means they'll cancel it.

Although at least Summer Glau isn't in it, that might give it some good luck. It's just beginning to seem like everything I like gets cancelled!

OR maybe I just have shit taste in TV.

Interesting. Incredibly schmaltzy but it's interesting nonetheless. Surprising they have such frequent use of subtitles for the non-English speaking characters. Can't see that going down well with the mainstream American audience.

After watching both episodes so far, I think I'm already finding it boring. They should just lock the kid up because he's infuriating, and probably does more damage roaming around outside than he's actually fixing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

turned off episode 2, their trying to be to intricate, oh look this happens, then this happens and then that happens, while this other thing is happening, then that guy isnt the guy, it the other guy who knows this other guy,

    BAH

    I enjoyed it tbh..

.. yes, it's overly schmaltzy and dramatic, but also quite endearing.

Better than the majority of new shows late in the season.

its somewhat like person of interest, instead of a computer it has a kid and instead of being a trained killer sutherland is an ex journalist,

im really liking POI so dont feel like adding another show so similar to it, or adding any other shows really, im watching way to much :o

Apart from the tongue-in-cheek contrivances where everything reaches the end-point, watching "Jack" getting beaten in a punch-up just doesn't work for me, he's too typecast.

I'm wondering whether they will up the ante by introducing a villain, because the only villain at the moment seems to be the Social Services that wants the kid removed from his dad's care (or lack of according to them).
