Went to the old firm at the weekend.

Everyone was singing this song from Depeche Mode.

In Paradise, and in the streets afterwards.

Not complaing. I love it. I just can't get enough myself. :)

    Just wondering why

Only came across it tonight when my dad mentioned it. It popped into conversation when my old man was telling me about the young Celtic fan Reamonn Gormley. Tragic story.

He was involved in this organisation. These little guys give Parkhead a run for their money. :)

    Heh.

I turned to my Celtic supporting mate just before kick off on Sunday and said "There is just one thing i dont want to ****ing hear today...."

I've since chucked out my Depeche Mode Greatest Hits album. ;)

Mind me asking if you've a season ticket or are a member of supporter's club or something?

Or did you go through a travel agent?

Been to Celtic Park many times but can never source a ticket for the Old Firm. Breaks my heart.

They had tickets on public sale for the replay against Rangers on the 2nd.I've got tickets before from the local CSC aswell for a game against them.

Using it since the start of the current SPL season I think, and a bit at the end of last season, we used it on that horrible trip to Galway anyway in October.

Actually, just found a video from August 09 of it.

I'd say the way that Lennon has the team playing is the biggest factor.

The Green Brigade embarrasses the club at times with their political agenda

Reminds me of our Cup exploits last season , was sung with gusto at Dalymount and Lansdowne :)

Cracking atmosphere. What are they singing after that? It sounds like "haha haha" to the sound of the Rangers "follow follow" song? Presume its a "lets laugh at Rangers type" thing? Or maybe I have it completely wrong?

Big time, not to mention at this stage Dundalk, Pats, Sligo and Ireland fans are all singing it, that list will no doubt have plenty more as the season gets under way. Taken off in England too, Liverpool have a version for Suarez and a good few lower league clubs are trying to get it going.

Yes it's just 'haha haha' etc. Further on after the 'lets all do the huddle' they also have a lets all do the 'broony' in reference to Brown's celebration standing in front of Diouf the week before.

It will end up like Dale Cavese, now I think every club in Ireland sings it and a good few in England.

No, I mean the club and the majority of its supporters. They can take their political agenda and jump into the Clyde.

Whats this 'embarrass the PLC' ****e that you are trying to peddle? You were happy when the idea of a plc stopped the banks closing down the club. Now, you are going to tell me that they are all thats wrong with the club? Get a grip!

again that was the green brigade who started all that, and on that note, the "lets all do the huddle" has been done in football grounds all over europe for ages, st.pauli actually have been doing it for years in germany, and the green brigade have been doing it in scotland for about the last year, two years!

embarrass the club?! are you serious!? the club have been trying to stop them creating an atmosphere at games,(which had dwindled so much it was laughable, this is evident in the day the plc of john reid stopped them bringing in their flags and banners, and so the green brigade sat down quietly in their seats and parkhead was like a morque, only song heard in the ground that day was from the speakers!) since they started up 5 years ago and have failed miserably. they have failed miserably because they have given the fans a voice.

the majority of the crowd at first didnt understand what they were about and thought they were just hooligans, it has taken a few years for them to come around to the fact that they are not hooligans and are just trying to get the athmosphere back to parkhead.

i would link you the the numerous positive comments from neil lennon on the green brigade where he says they are brilliant and he thanks them for the support back inside the ground, or i could link you the all the photos of the different players with green brigade scarfs, flags ect!

but that thing where all the fans all turned their back on the pitch and started bouncing up and down is not called lets all do the huddle!!!!!!! it has been done for years and years! sky sports started saying it looks like the huddle because they had never seen anything like it before!! it has been done lots and lots in parkhead and at pre season games the green brigade have attended over the last 5 years! it is not a retort to rangers lets all do the bouncy bounce!

We call it the huddle because its similar to what the players do before kick off, I couldnt care less what other sets of fans calls it and I havent noticed other clubs doing it. I seen far more clubs jumping up and down whilst facing the pitch and chanting

You said the Green Brigade were an embarrassment to the club with their politics etc..., I stated that only the plc would be embarrassed as most Celtic fans (in my opinion) are happy with the politics associated with our club.

    Celtic and politics are inseparable.

Maybe continue this on the main Celtic thread?

well its already caught on in liverpool!

The majority, if not all, of the Green Brigade dont have Irish Passports yet they have a stance on Irish politics and things that will never affect them. Again, they can run and jump into the Clyde.

The history and culture of Celtic isnt to be confused with politics or political agenda and what they stand for, politically, is embarrassing. Embarrassing because they think that its the view of the majority of the support when it isnt. Celtic is a club for everyone, there are alot of diversity in our support and people will have political views that conflict, recognition of that isnt the Green Brigades strong point.

When you bring politics into the stands of a club like Celtic, you divide and polarize the support which undermines everything.

if you know so much about the green brigade you will know then that tehir main political theme is inclusion for all. its anti-racism in everything it does! anti-fascist to its core

Tell that to the Celtic supporter who got his head kicked in by a few members of the "Green Brigade" outside "Failte" on St Vincent St. at the end of last season.

He was walking past the pub on his way home from a 7-a-side tournament, which his team had won, he was singing "Championies" to his mate on the phone, oblviious as to where he actually was.

He ended up in hospital eating liquidised food for quite a long time.

On paper, i agree with a lot of the GB's politics, however when a group becomes as militant as they have been lately "Inclusion for all" suddenly takes a turn towards "Inclusion for everyone who agrees with us".

Personally i dont want to be bombarded with stickers and posters for a football club supporters group whenever i attend a rally or march in this city, as it creates an instant divide.

i cant comment on this as its the first i heard it was the green brigade, heard about an incident like it but not that green brigade memebrs were involved.

i would kind of agree with you on the bit i have highlighted and underlined. my understanding of this would be to try and stop any little neds who dont understand what they are about running around shouting their name as some sort of back up or calling card, looking at ultras on the continent and not realising the difference between the green brigade and hooligans. the thing with this is that they sit in section 111 and anyone who applied for tickets for this section could join in but not exactly be on the same wave lenght as the rest of the group if you understand what im trying to say. they need to self govern to try and curtail this element from encroching into the group and damaging the good work that has been done with trying to get the rest of the support on their side. the first time we seen this coming into play was on sunday. thats my view of it anyway.

That's a fair point, it could very well be "hangers on" etc.

But then if the GB actually do want to become some sort of lobby group or political voice then they would do well to shut that kind of thing down pretty quickly.

As i say, i dont particularly feel comfortable around them when they turn up at marches etc, because i dont know the reaction that would be given on finding out the club i support.

They create a divide, and while it may be arguable that politics can indeed be brought into football, football certainly has no place in politics.

    I hope that makes sense.

not sure about some sort of lobby group now being fair, their main aim, which is a good one for supporters of any club to implement is to bring the athmosphere back to parkhead which had been lacking considerably in the last few years. sure they hold socialist views and have regularly done anti-racist demonstrations but a lobby group wouldnt be what i associate with them!

the last bit makes perfect sense, for the best part of the last century politics have been brought into football. people laud barcelona for the way they stay true to their catalonian culture and have their own political views but then thrash a club like celtic for staying true to where they came from, a club inclusive for all, where people didnt have to hide their roots, be they indian, italian or irish.*

    * i am in no way implying you do this, i have read other posts by you and they nearly all seem level headed.
